I agree, it would be very interesting! Unfortunately, I think that too few screenwriters and filmmakers have heard of this great, but lesser-known composer ... :)
Thank you very much for St Georges's music that we can share with your contribution here, this is also one of my favorite concerto. Indeeed, St George was Mozart's profesor in Paris and have influenced Mozart who copied one of his music... They used today to call him the "Black Mozart", this cannot be the case. He was a famous musician and have leaded several symphonies in Paris, he played in front of huge crowds (2 to 3,000) in that time. Today, we learn more about him since President Chirac rehabilited him in 1999 with official excuses from the country to his family. He was a famous fencer, maybe the best of all time it is why the principal alley today in fencing is called "The Alley St Georges". The strong fencing training between St Georges and Alexandre Dumas the General inspired Alexandre Dumas the writer (who was witness of several training between his father and St Georges) and he wrote "Les Trois Mousquetaires". Each year in mars in Guadeloupe we celebrate St Georges during one week and we play all of his famous concertos in several places...
I totally agree with you! I also posted some of his wonderful music and I had here, on youtube, some discussions about his undoubted talent and about the influence he had on other musicians. He is not "Mozart otherwise" or "Black Mozart", his name is just Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges and we must not compare him with anyone! In fact, this is my principle of not comparing musicians, everyone, including those called "The Great Composers", had extraordinary, famous works, but also less inspired music. Thank you!
Interpretazione Magistrale, Brillante, Inimitabile, Unica !!! Complimenti vivissimi al Solista e all' Orchestra, tutti Eccellenti Musicisti 👍👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Cordiali saluti, Anna e Luigi
Concerto bellissima! The Rondeau is divine. Jean-Jacques Kantorow is great. Thank you sibarit sibarit101. Yes musically, Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-Georges can be classified as French classical. His teachers and Gossec in particular shaped his instrumental and compositional style; influences of the Mannheim School and Joseph Haydn can also be seen. His music, like that of Gossec, is also strongly reminiscent of the young Mozart - although Saint-Georges and Gossec are more likely to be seen as his predecessors and role models and not vice versa. According to Banat, Saint-Georges is said to have had some influence on Beethoven.
Chevalier de Saint Georges was such an interesting character. Would have loved to have him as a dinner guest. What stories he could tell. Thank you for posting such wonderful music !
This sounds like nowadays people who would have loved to meet Jesus-christ. They say "If I could meet him, I would spent the rest of my life with him". The truth is that if Jesus was living among us today, he would have suffered the same struggles from us. Going back to your point, I am tempted to ask you how many mixed race African or so called "Black" in general have you been friendly to? How many have you invited "as dinner guests" ? How many are you friend with or even greet ? If the honest answer is not even 2 to 3 of them, then your statement was lead by punctual feelings or just hypocrite. Start paying attention the ones you have around you that may be even reluctant to answer to your greetings (maybe sincere) due to what they have been through for reasons you have heard about. The day it will become natural to you, you will discover that they are more talents than Joseph Bologne's. The dude went through misery before finally french people of his time acknowledge his talent. Why ? Well you know the answer. Even after his death they erased him from history while he was the professor of Mozart. and they put Mozart in front of people. Why? Well you know the answer.
Hi there, as far as I can see he only wrote concertos for the violin (14 of them) and a few concertantes, but sadly none involving any keyboard instruments.
Kantorow - Chevalier de Saint Georges 🏆🎻🥇.... Kantorow Violinista eccezionale 👏👏👏👏👏
Je suis heureuse de vivre la renaissance de l'éclat oublié de ce majestueux prodige !
Merci beaucoup, je suis contente que cette musique vous plaise !
I’m here because of the movie and would love to hear his music.
Someone should make a film about Saint George. What a story that would be !

Thank You very much for your enthusiastic comment! Glad you liked it!
Is still one of my favorite recordings of his concertos. The A major is brilliant playing from Kantorow. So is the C and D major. Keep posting them.
Thanks a lot, I'll do that!
My favourite of his work!
