I was shocked when I read PENN. But then I realized PENN state. Understandable. That sort is thing would never fly at UPENN (must be read like you're Thurstan Howell III from Gilligan's Island...

One the best underrated skits of old school SNL.
I was going to comment- this skit was absolutely not funny at all.
I love that when the one girl tells David Spades character that his shirt makes him look tall he fixes his posture 🤣

Melanie Hutsell is comedy gold.
Melanie Hutsell maybe hadn't a lot of range but was funny, had a good rapport with Beth Cahill and positive response from the audience, unfortunately back then the SNL writers were thinking the girls had cooties or something like that.

When these sketches first came out, I was a mere teenager who was not familiar with the concept of sororities and fraternities. It wasn’t until I went to college and observed the Greek system firsthand that I was better able to appreciate the humour.
Fraternities and sororities are good for students.

Before recently and definitely before SNL got females head writers like Tina Fey, season 17 had the largest number of female cast members
Freddy Richards clearly they needed women in the writing room
And from what I hear, Melanie Hutsell purposely tried to write in as many women as possible.
PS--For historical accuracy, that may not be entirely true: In 1982, and for a few years, women made up a much larger portion of the eight-person cast--Julia Louis Dreyfus, Robin Duke and Mary Gross.

I was a Tri Delta but I don’t understand your comment. There was a delta variant of COVID, but no “delta delta delta” variant. Greek letters are used for lots of different naming purposes across various industries. Using the letter “delta” isn’t specific to COVID.

I don't even remember those ladies' names (I mean, they're listed in the description; but which is which?) and I was only 11 at the time (probably only heard this skit in the other room while I was trying to go to sleep) or I'd wonder if this is the USUAL fate of any-but-the-RARE 'not ready for primetime'-player?

I used to watch snl in this era and when this bit was tried it was huge, then each time after it sank lower and lower. OMG would cause howling from the audience but after the third episode, crickets. It was cringy.cringe. I think this might be the last try.

This is so awesome and, even though it fronts making fun of the girls, does a great job of showing college gender dynamics. Boys in college run the show, and girls fall in line, over and over.
