- Lets follow a mother and her newborn baby boy elephant around a waterhole in Kruger National Park. This is unedited footage to enjoy. Notice how baby throws tantrums and trying to imitate its mom. Filmed at Sweni Game and Bird Hide close to Nwanedzi
No tantrums here, just an adorable video. Imitating grownups is exhausting. He's just taking breaks in the mud. At one point, he reminds a teenage elephant that got too close that he's only a baby. A cute baby at that ❣️
The calf is playing in the mud not throwing tantrums he is just enjoying life doing what comes naturally to him.And what a little darling he is.

This is in noway a tantrum...this baby is rubbing mud onto his skin to protect himself from insects and the sun. Plus it feels real good.

No tantrum there, just a lovely cool mud bath. More efficient than throwing the stuff all around with that tiny little trunk. :) I wonder through, if they poop in the water hole doesn't it become contaminated fairly quickly? After all, they not only bathe in that water, they drink it.
I'm certain their immune systems are adapted and have proper protection

These are NOT tantrums. He is a VERY BRIGHT baby!!! He has learned early how to coat his body w/mud + dirt to protect it from sun exposure and cool his body temp!

They copy what they learned from the mom , siblings , aunties. They are supposed to frolic in the mud for a mud protective barrier from insects, and the hot sun. Mommie invited baby to feed by putting her leg forward. Baby knows that means he can drink

Second, I gotta go along with the other commenters; no tantrum here. I read long ago that the skin of an elephant is so sensitive, they can feel the bite of a mosquito. If I had sensitive skin, and was standing under a hot sun and had bugs landing on me; I’d want a cooling mud bath too. Very cute baby.

He doesn’t quite have control of his truck enough to allow him to throw the water exactly like mom but he is trying. It takes them awhile to learn how to control all the thousands of muscles in their trunks. .

He is a beautiful boy with his stick. Probably trying to learn to spray the mud and water over his body. The mud helps protect from the sun and biting insects (sunscreen and repellent).
