    We found out the hard way that you really need to keep vents for fans and dryers as short as possible.
    The volume of air coming out is not strong enough to travel long distances and longer runs are extremely hard to clean.

  • @aussiebloke609
    @aussiebloke609 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    I suspect that long run of flexi will be your undoing. Likely to catch moisture in each sag between brackets - and between each ring of stiffening wire - which will then freeze during the winter. The rougher interior texture will also make it that much harder for the fan to push air out efficiently. I was taught to always use rigid pipe wherever possible, but especially in areas where access will be limited, like inside a wall or soffit. Also, keeping the length to a minimum and sloping it downwards to let condensation run out is important if you don't want it freezing up over the winter.

    • @debradiane3929
      @debradiane3929 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, and if they open it up to put the rigid pipe in, they should also seal up the holes around the vent and the small test hole. Otherwise critters will find their way into the wall and attic area and do tons of damage. :)

    • @dorothyallen3614
      @dorothyallen3614 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought they would learn, it’s already happened to them once with the condensation freezing, but hey it’s their projects and I respect that 😂. I really like this family and admire their accomplishments, here’s hoping that this never happens to the vent fan ducting🤭

    • @greggotcher9336
      @greggotcher9336 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my thougt as well. I would worry about the consdensation freezing on such a long run that is in an unconditioned space.

    Water coming out will be best served by running down to keep flowing to the outside. As water cools it will condenses in the pipe and bad in the winter 🥶 you could slope it to the end using pvc but a long run you can’t keep it warm in the winter just to long.

    Sorry but you couldn't have picked the worse type of piping for the exhaust. From experience I have repaired so many of these types of installations just a few years after they were installed. Foil flex will sag & sweat with moisture hits the colder air, water will collect in the ribs, freeze even with insulation and the pipe will disintegrate very quickly. Ridgid pipe only, prefer aluminum and insulation through cold spaces, avoid long runs through cold spaces. Once there is the tiniest of holes in the foil flex moisture will collect on the underside of your OSB causing black mould and rot. I would have turned up and exhausted through the roof.

    • @aussiebloke609
      @aussiebloke609 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Another potential issue I see is the fan not having the power to push air efficiently through such a long run of pipe, and especially with such a rough interior to that flexi. I suspect it's going to collect dust and moisture, which will then grow mould - and having it enclosed the the porch ceiling isn't going to make fixing it any easier.

    • @nvwilderness6902
      @nvwilderness6902 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Problem with vents through the roof in snow load areas - the snow will shear the vents right off the roof. We've had to replace every single one of our vents and go through a side wall due to the snow sliding off the roof and taking the vents / rain gutters and snow breaks along with it. We live in a similar area as here so understand that decision to do it now instead of fixing it later (bigger job). But I agree with the rigid pipe application instead.

    • @joesnuffy1961
      @joesnuffy1961 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rigid 4” round will allow the air to flow much easier no rough air which will impede the airflow. Not to mention the water content of the air flow. By the time air gets 10 ft all heat will have dissipated and the moisture will have dropped out and will freeze!

    Okay guys, I have loved watching your channel for a long time, despite your weird obsession with the same three or four songs for all your music, but come ON! Do you have to take soooo much time to do your advertisements? Can't ya maybe break them up or something? More than 7 minutes of video for one product... it's like watching an infomercial, rather than the content of your build and progress stuff.
    Please have some mercy on your viewers and at least break up the product endorsements!
    I actually ended up fast forwarding on this one just to get back to the content, I'm sure I'm not the only one who does that either. I'd venture to say that advertisers would rather people WATCH the ads they're paying you to do, ya know?

    Flexible ducting, especially that long is a huge load on the fan. Your air flow will be exceedingly compromised. You should have used rigid ducting once out of the wall cavity. Additionally, the exterior ducting should have been insulated to reduce vapour condensing and freezing in the ducting, again reducing air flow in winter.

It feels as though your channel is just a business to you now, all the purchases you've made and contractors you brought in show that, but these sort of videos feel like a lazy attempt to put out "content" whilst earning sponsor bucks.

    The bathroom duct extention should be hard pipe the flex pipe adds too much restrictions and uneven surface to collect moisture and dust that over time will Matt up plus hard pipe easier to support in straight line actually should be treated like drain vent lol have drop in at termination 1/8 per ft there will be moisture in venting from condensation
    Suggestion check vent manufacturer and verify if there are vent distance limitations or if a inline booster fan recommended

    Make sure you don't drag the material through the mud and then when you install it make sure that you don't face nail it. There was a job in TX I was on and the crew before me installed it that way as described above then when I brought it to the attention of the super on that job I was told to not comment on others work but yet I was brought in to make it look great! Tell me how do you make 1300 square ft of overhead t&g look great when it's been face nailed like 1000 times?

    Watching Tux take your “wheel” was so much fun. Every little job gets you much closer to completion. We are busy growing chicks to get our egg flock.
