I've gone through thought patterns similar to this myself and have to fight this ugly, silly sin regularly since I tend to not be impassioned about much of anything for some reason, so this is all observation and intended encouragement rather than judgment for anyone who may care to read it and hopefully be helped by it.
That last 4 minutes in particular, beginning at 6:40 - GOLDEN!
Many people wrongly think that accepting God's sovereignty as it is laid out all over the Bible is what leads to passivity in Christians when really it is deep-seated, and oftentimes unnoticeable, pride, laziness, discouragement, and insufficient zeal that does it, which I know all too well. The question "Why pray when / if..." blatantly ignores or misses what the Bible teaches and exposes disinclination not mature faith or heightened joy.
God's sovereignty involves our willful though not ultimately-determining actions, so his promises should serve to encourage us to keep moving with a dependent attitude not make us apathetic as if we are owed God's promises of grace. The promises are given to his children and his children prove to be so by striving to obey his commands and be fruitful as we grow to know and enjoy God more and more and help others to do so in love.
Regardless of how grateful we may be for God's promises of grace, they are never fully realized and enjoyed until Christ returns, so until then everything is constantly fluctuating in a struggle for us to persevere through suffering and the responsibility of the great burdens we carry, all of which will push true saints to pray because we are abundantly blessed but also STRESSED and / or DEPRESSED! Even Jesus prayed for help while, as God, he was completely sovereign over every detail of his earthly life from before the beginning, so how much more ought we to pray while still knowing that God is sovereign over us!
Piper insightfully calls prayer a "wartime walkie-talkie," while I call it the 'Beggars' Ball of the Beloved.' Prayer is essentially begging, which implies sorrow, weakness, and desperation, yet for the beloved children of God who are invited to approach him and be listened to, our begging is also like a ball in that we can plead with passion and surety that God is going to do all that he said he would in his own way and timing as we keep prevailing in our petitions. It's kinda like labor- when a woman is pregnant she truly does have a baby already, but she has to go through the process of pain to get the baby out here and experience the blessing of their life in full!
Someone who uses God's sovereignty as an excuse or false claim to faith and joy in him is sadly misguided and in actuality, potentially displaying disobedience and carelessness because we are commanded to pray, and anyone who so adamantly disobeys God while trying to be clever and twist his word should have no confidence that they will benefit from his sovereign promises because they only apply to prayerful and faithful ones.

Exactly. Our constant connection to the Lord is so cricial. The Peace that comes in the understanding and realization of God's Sovereignty is a blessing we receive and is in itself very empowering to trust Him in faith when we can't pray correctly because of our not understanding what is best. I am grateful to be able to ask in faith for what is best, not necessarily for what I myself desire. I confirm my trust, and I believe that pleases God and is in itself a form of pure worship.

It is surely true that every Christian prays prayers at times that are not the will of God. It would be very unrealistic to expect otherwise, given how we don't see everything clearly (1 Cor 13:12).
But we need not be troubled by this. If we pray a prayer that isn't God's will, he won't answer it. So it's not as if we will cause something bad to happen by praying a bad prayer.
It is true that if someone insists on seeking from God something that is wrong, God may eventually hand that person over to that thing. But for a devout Christian who is trying to find and do the will of God, making mistakes in what we ask for in prayer won't cause any harm.

@@BENJAMINJAMESSMITH2000 Yes, we need to repent from our sins and indeed our autonomy (our intellectual, affectional, behavioral, and all other autonomy) which desires to live without reference to God and his ways, and instead trust and embrace Jesus alone as our only King and Savior, begging for his mercy and forgiveness. We are like an adulterous wife who needs to turn away from her adulterous life and come back to her good and faithful husband, begging for forgiveness and acceptance (on the basis of Jesus without whom there'd be no way back, as there's no way back for the fallen angels). We are like Mordred in the King Arthur tales who rose up and slew all the knights of the realm and tried to overthrew and execute King Arthur, and we need to turn back and beg the king for clemency and forgiveness for all we've done and the evil we have become (on the basis of Jesus without whom there'd be no way back, as there's no way back for the fallen angels).

@@BENJAMINJAMESSMITH2000 No, water baptism is not necessary for salvation. If water baptism is necessary for salvation, then water baptism would be an action or work which adds to what Jesus did. It would be something we can do in addition to what Jesus already did. However, the Bible teaches Jesus's work is perfectly complete.
That said, water baptism symbolizes death to our old life and the Spirit giving us new life, and the Bible does command us to be baptized as a result of our salvation. It's similar (though not exactly the same) with performing good deeds. They're evidence we've been saved, but they're not prerequisites to be saved.

Christians should be filled with an expectation that prayer changes things, that things will happen because we pray that won't happen if we don't. The whole Bible tells us this.
If a Christian doesn't have this outlook, there is something very wrong in how they view their relationship with the Lord. The way they see things is much too passive, as far as the role of human beings relating to God is concerned.

In the Book of Judges, Yahweh would regularly hand Israel over to its enemies for forsaking him for the Canaanite storm god Baal Hadad and the mother goddess Asherah. Here we have evangelicals -- like John Piper, Tim Keller, and other Never-Trump advocates connected with The Gospel Coalition or the Southern Baptist Ethics and "Religious Liberty" Commission, the Christianity Today CEO Timothy Dalrymple and former chief editor Mark Galli, and of course David French -- handing us over to our enemies to face permanent loss of freedoms and our educational institutions. Irony is a beautiful thing when it doesn't hurt so much. And it was all preventable, as we can see from the closeness of the election. Good people making a foolish choice and cloaking it in virtue.
The cancel culture will now be officially ensconced in the White House, replete with compulsory speech mandates. Add to these devastating consequences promotion of the culture of death, threats to employment and the closing off of certain professions to Christians, threats to parental rights with regard to one's "LGBTQ" identified children, and threats to the church (tax-exempt status, use of buildings for "LGBTQ" promotion).
Some conservative Catholic leaders (and non-Catholics like Rod Dreher) who know how devastating the consequences of a Biden-Harris victory would be for free speech and the free exercise of religion, not to mention for pro-life policies and judicial appointments, muddied the waters by denying that there was a moral imperative to cast an effective vote against Biden-Harris, a complete inconsistency once they had acknowledged that faithful Catholics could not vote for Biden-Harris. Not as damaging as the Never-Trumpers but far from helpful at an "all hands on deck" moment of American history.
And for what? To dump a President who was pro-life, fighting for the free exercise of religion and free speech, thwarting the worst bill in over a century (maybe ever; the "Equality Act"), helping African Americans in several policy moves, helping American blue-collar workers by standing against illegal immigration, presiding till COVID over the lowest unemployment rate in half a century and making a strong comeback in the economy in the last few months, and making infinitely better judicial nominations and appointments than we could ever hope for from Biden-Harris (the most recent being within the last 2 weeks before the election).
A President, mind you, who hasn't been promoting sexual immorality in his policies or shown to be engaging in such behavior for over 12 years. All for remarks, most of which are distorted (like the perpetual lie about Charlottesville), which have been shown to have zero negative policy consequences.
And these Never-Trumpers no longer had the excuse of saying that Trump won't keep his campaign promises. Plus he had a godly vice president and associated himself with many godly people, while Biden picks as Vice President a candidate who is the furthest left in the Dem Party and hates anyone who doesn't support abortion or the whole "LGBTQ" agenda.
Biden and Harris, and their ilk, are people of truly bad character, with significant evidence of corruption. They made it possible for a Party to win whose twin idols are abortion and "LGBTQ" coercive law. A Party that fueled destruction of property and violence to encourage racial division and animosity, a Party that insists that people repent of the evil of "whiteness" and view American history as little more than an experiment of virulent racism.
These Christian leaders responded out of their left-wing cultural or geographical context that treated Trump as evil's chief minion. They felt their reputation, ministry, or academic position under siege for any support of Trump. So they found shelter in their Never-Trumpism.
They used excuses like, "It's going to happen at some time in the future anyway," never stopping to think that another four years of a Trump presidency would likely bear great fruit for judicial appointments whose salutary effect for the nation would continue long after Trump was gone.
These Never-Trumpers even acted at a time when polls were indicating that the Republicans would lose the Senate (at the time of this post, that is still possible when one subtracts RINO "Republicans" from the Republican tally), which would have given Dems control of both branches of Congress as well as the White House.
This is the greatest and most damaging political folly in my lifetime. Unfortunately, we all have to pay for this betrayal for the rest of our lives.
