I have a cheap softbox similar to the cheap one shown in the early part of this video. I took it out of its bag exactly once, and fumbled around with it in someone's house. It was awkward and I wound up not even using it. I used the S-bracket with it exactly once. So none of that was cheap, in fact it was a waste of money. If you have a studio, where lights seldom need to be broken down (?) then I can see where cheap = good. That said, if someone has a studio and regularly uses lights, a more expensive folder paid for itself long ago. I'm attracted to the run-and-gun ease of use here, and I think I'm now willing to pay for it.
I love my Angler softbox. I just noticed your wall of amazing images. Gorgeous! There's something so special when you see a print as opposed to seeing an image on a monitor.
That was a very informative video Mr. Markus. May I just add that Cara's look, hair and fashion reminded me of a 'Bond Girl' shoot and setting. Very classy and sensual. Great Job!

Yesterday, being motivated by your previous video, I bought 2 pcs AD100 PRO. They are amazing! I was playing with them all afternon and came to the point that umbrelas & umbrella softboxes make the biggest sense for their fastness, because besides the weight of these small flashes it is their fast operabilty - at least for me. For us in Europe there are other alternatives to Angler - like Korean SMDV, which is priced almost same here. Anyway - thank you for another inspiring video 👍
Amazing coverage as always. My lights and portable stands and lights are super heavy. I never worry about wind but I wish I had seen your show years ago. One of these days I have to switch everything.
Yahoo! Well after I have bought 5 ad 200, we are switching to the 100, do you realize I have bought almost everything you have used in the past 2 years, right when I thought I had in all, you pull this out of the your hat. YAHOO!! good job
I use the Angler Fastbox Pistol Grip on an AD200, then I used the metal back plate of an AD-S17 and a 3d printed adapter ring to attach Godox Mount softboxes like the AD-S60S - nice small modifier and no need for an S-bracket. The pistol grip angle adjustment can't bear the weight of the larger AD-S85 softbox, so I tend to use those with an AD300 or AD360ii (with my 3d adapter)
@@herbrockone5068 yes, the AS-S17 backplate uses the barebulb head, the 3dprinted speedring attaches to metal backplate with the bulb in the middle, and the Godox mount softboxes attach to the speedring - no large bowens mount soft box, no s-bracket.
Great video. I was in the same boat with buyers remorse over my bulky, clunky S-brackets, that long top screw annoys me to no end. For those of us on the other side of the pond though, this Angler Fastbox is "strikingly similar" to the SMDV Speedbox Flip28G. I didnt want to buy yet another softbox, but these things are fantastic for portability! SMDV by the way sells all kinds of replacement parts and adapters for these boxes, which is handy. That Angle Grip light stand adapter can be purchased separately and they even have square, rectangular, and strip boxes with the same basic design. That said, they'll still have to bury me with my trusty umbrella softboxes, I'll never let them go!
SMDV is built the same way, but has FAR more options with interchangeable accessories between Angler and SMDV. Hard magnetic attached gels, larger sizes up to 43", large strips, 1x3 strips, lanterns, as well as a larger version of this exact design which is their new 32". The 32" is my new go-to lighting setup for a single key light. It's big enough to not have hard lines in the face. They also offer grids, and cost slightly less. Angler is nice but they hardly offer a full range of options.

Thansk for this, glad I found your channel. I have a 36 inch softbox that has the four ribs to fit into a Bowens mount I bet you could use that with this mount.
S-bracket is not the lightest or smallest. But it is sturdy and strong for the purpose. It is excellent when having multiple different lights and that one Bowens mount. But only if you have that extra mass and size dialed in for your flash setups. S-bracket works in studio or indoor location, but not so great for on-the-go. Like traveling.
@@DezSantana there is multiple different "mobile" setups. One can be where your move from location to location and you have couple big wheeled bags. Other is that you go to on-site from the car, so car is near by and you have lot of stuff in the car anyways. Some is that you set up to shoots in many locations in the day, but you still need more than just flash and camera, and you have one bigger bag. Etc. But it doesn't work when you have one passenger bag and you do not have even space for anything else than maybe one small umbrella.
@@paristo I know how the S2 is used. I've had it for years. It's not compact, nor the perfect mobile option. I've used other adapters that worked better. This Angler product is intriguing.
@@DezSantana those don't replace the S-bracket. They are different for purpose. The S-bracket is for other use than when traveling just with one backpack or so. There is reason why studios has different equipment than when going to multiple different on-sites. Sometimes you don't need sturdy, flexible and time saving option because it is heavier and bigger. It is like monopod vs tripod vs string. Monopod is great when you run and gun, when you are moving, but in most traveling cases you just need string. But neither replaces a good tripod. I pack lot of stuff on my car just to be prepared for anything. I have from lightweight solutions to all the way to C-stands, and when I know I need it, I have studio stand as well for the camera. I have tools with me, from saws to ropes to drills etc. Because at any given time I can build all kind supports and get lights to temporal places for the effect. I have even a custom made 33 ft (11m) long monopod with capability to hold 2,4 kg weight straight to side, and it has only 2,8kg mass as made from aluminum, collapsible to just 2,6 meters. Even regardless I loved traveling with just a funnybag size bag, few lenses, flash, batteries etc, you are at best limited to be capable work in any situation. It is just another end of compromise spectrum, and S-bracket does shift it more towards the possibilities.
Not sure if I can purchase this in the UK. I love what you say about S Brackets. Newer made a plastic version of the old ones for a square flash only. You know I find your demeanor very uplifting. I get a little down sometimes and your videos give me quite a lift. Thanks.
When are you going to do an episode on monopods? Particularly , ones with a folding tripod base and a ball head that collapses into a compact size for travel.
I would love Angler did an adapter for the Nanlite / Viltrox FM mount (the small bowens mount) it would make for a perfect little package for these small lights!
This is a great video. I like the smallness and how light it looks. Is the adapter for the AD200 the same one for the speedlight? Now do I sell my AD200 and go with an AD100
Does anyone here know where to get the adaptor seen at 2:20 in the video? Many thanks, and Markus - you are an inspiration. Watching your videos is a breath of fresh air!
hey! just subscribed , binged watched your videos ! your amazing bro! thanks for the advice! hey ,I'm new to photography , what type of light stands do you recommend that's cheap and sturdy so the light boxes will not topple over due to wind ?
My favorite strong all around light stand is Norms th-cam.com/video/mxtEK1f-ZP8/w-d-xo.html if you're not using big modifiers or super heavy lights, then I use Impact 6,8 or 10 ft stands like the Impact LS8, also featured in this video

Thanks for your help. At the moment Im looking for strobes I shoot Rodeos but am not sure if I can get away with 300?

Hi Markus, I love your obsession with small and light. This fast softbox looks pretty good, as does Cara - excellent as always. One thing though in any real wind (real world outdoors) a small stand with a 28" box is easy prey to wind and a smashed AD100/200. IMO as case of when, not if. This aside from an assistant to hold light/stand how do you ensure no 'blow overs' without adding additional (heavy) counterweight ballast. Even water bags are messy inconvenient and contradict your travel light approach. Just wondering how you deal with this issue?

Hi Markus, I'm probably late to the party but I still wonder, is there an option of a light modifier similar to the reflector you've shown in your AD200 video? Looking for an alternative to take pictures on the go without softboxes... Thanks!
Hey Markus. My experience has been that it is extremely under powered. I was never able to expose for the sky and light up my subject as my shutter speed would have to be around SS500 while my aperture on my 35, 50, 85 being f1.4 or f1.8 whatever the widest aperture the lens allowed me.I even tried to remove the diffusing element from the light, not much difference.
Faster shutter requires HSS capability _just to fill the frame with light_ . regardless of how bright or dim the resulting light is. That's the "sync" part of High Speed Sync. And we know HSS is a huge power draw on the battery and more heat.
Can you PLEASE review Brandon Cole's "Black Dish". It's supposed to be better with the highlights and better color. I know you won't be bias so it would be nice to hear your opinion. Thank you
MarkusPix you are a really cool reviewer, I really like your videos. Tell me please, do you also think that umbrella softboxes are bad (like Godox). It is better to use parabolic umbrellas like ub85/105/130 because they have a long needle where to hang the flash. Therefore, it is better to fill the modifier over its entire area. Right?
I love umbrella softboxes, I've used them for years th-cam.com/video/LLChTZ8ZQec/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/UHENDYBEyGU/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/YszU25i3aMU/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/6_83vp3fGGg/w-d-xo.html
How is the light output with the the angler no diffusion vs bare head? I would love something like this kit but also looking for the max output configuration when I need it. Basically use the anglers as a big reflector. Usually I get better output from an open softbox than even the polished reflectors.
The strongest output is simply using the 100 as is out of the box. Angler diffusion cannot be removed, a silver umbrella is all you need if that's the way you want to go
Markus, you've made a video talking about how you find the ad300 has a blue color cast. Many people are also complaining about a ad100 green cast . I was hesitating between the ad100, 200 and 300... I was more inclined to buy the ad300 because of its modeling light... But between no modeling light, green cast, blue cast, I think I'll simply stop photography and invest in video games... :) Since you've worked with the three of them, I'd like to hear you about this... Any opinion/advice would be appreciated :) Thanks!
Hey Markus. I was just wondering if you could research and find out why the as 100 can’t be triggered by tha Godox app to use with an iPhone. It just boils my blood that profoto who is so rediculous Ly expensive can make there lights be triggered by there app by there are no other small lights that will work with an app to be used with an iPhone.
@@paristo You're not teaching me anything new. I've been doing this a long time. Already know this.
What is even greater it has a built in fan exactly what the ad200 is missing. I might end up buying one. Way too cool.
I just did
I immediatly bought in, want to replace my AD200 travel kit with a AD100 based kit, but unfortunatly, this softbox is not availble in Europe 😩
cool video, beautiful shots - love it
I would love Angler did an adapter for the Nanlite / Viltrox FM mount (the small bowens mount) it would make for a perfect little package for these small lights!
This is a great video. I like the smallness and how light it looks. Is the adapter for the AD200 the same one for the speedlight? Now do I sell my AD200 and go with an AD100
Keep the 200, it's great. The 100 is a great supplemental light to have when you want something small. Yes the speedlight head
i got the angler softbox and was amazed how easy it was
Does anyone here know where to get the adaptor seen at 2:20 in the video? Many thanks, and Markus - you are an inspiration. Watching your videos is a breath of fresh air!
Markus please come to ShutterFest 2024 fellow photogs will LOVE you like I do. #shutterfest #salsincota
hey! just subscribed , binged watched your videos ! your amazing bro! thanks for the advice! hey ,I'm new to photography , what type of light stands do you recommend that's cheap and sturdy so the light boxes will not topple over due to wind
?
My favorite strong all around light stand is Norms th-cam.com/video/mxtEK1f-ZP8/w-d-xo.html if you're not using big modifiers or super heavy lights, then I use Impact 6,8 or 10 ft stands like the Impact LS8, also featured in this video
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Will it work with the V1 the Angular because those extra brackets look the same as V-1 just different color? I live right up the street always look for ya when driving thru Red Rock. Thanks for your help. At the moment Im looking for strobes I shoot Rodeos but am not sure if I can get away with 300?
I think I'm gonna sell my ad300 pro, buy a couple more ad100s and get a couple of these angler softboxes...for a solo guy like me who doesn't drive, these are game changing for my body.
Take your time, ad300 is a tank and doesnt overheat as fast as ad100. )
@@Potalakh thank you for sharing. I haven't been able to stress test my ad300 yet but that's great to hear. I did recently use the ad100 in insane June afternoon heat here in Dubai. Thankfully I wasn't popping too many frequent flashes but it got insanely hot merely by the weather. I'll keep this in mind about the ad300.
I am going to start learning flash photography. I want a not too heavily priced, lightweight, portable setup that I can take with me wherever I go to cultivate and continue this new hobby of mine.
What do you suggest?@@Potalakh
Yahoo! Markus why have you never tried any of mag mod gear? It would be great to see how far you could take the?
Hello, I will appreciate if you provide me the soft box link planning to use it with the AD 200. Thank
Brilliant!!! Thanks Marcus!
Wish Angeler made this system for strip soft boxes, 😒
Hi Markus, I love your obsession with small and light. This fast softbox looks pretty good, as does Cara - excellent as always.
One thing though in any real wind (real world outdoors) a small stand with a 28" box is easy prey to wind and a smashed AD100/200. IMO as case of when, not if. This aside from an assistant to hold light/stand how do you ensure no 'blow overs' without adding additional (heavy) counterweight ballast. Even water bags are messy inconvenient and contradict your travel light approach. Just wondering how you deal with this issue?
th-cam.com/video/hz89VIMQZDY/w-d-xo.html
Every time I tried to use a soft box or umbrella outside, it was me versus the wind.
do you have any videos going over what softbox size we should buy?
Alway awesome information 🙌🏼 Quick question what is the brand & link for the light weight plastic universal ash head bracket - stand adapter ? Thanks
This is the metal version www.adorama.com/fpsrbf.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwqoibBhDUARIsAH2OpWhOi7dq5ZEvzFdiPuex3JKszYkEBfciq9xLOyJngpHwjj2fIXDc_BYaApWAEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&
The plastic version came with the old Godox softboxes but you can still get them from AliExpress (with the softbox) www.aliexpress.us/item/2251801219171823.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.5.23804f03qITC9T&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa

Thank for the video, ad100pro can work pluged to power or only bateries? Thanks
3:14 which soft box is this? I can't find it
Just google godox softbox they come in all kinds of sizes www.adorama.com/gosbms5070.html
Hi Markus, I'm probably late to the party but I still wonder, is there an option of a light modifier similar to the reflector you've shown in your AD200 video? Looking for an alternative to take pictures on the go without softboxes... Thanks!
The AD100 doesn't need one, it's great right out of the box
@@MarkusPix really good news! Thank you!
That's what ND filters are for :-)
@@MarkusPix Nd or cranking the shutter will result in the same power draw to get a proper exposure.
@GastonShutters…Do you think that the AD200 would have been a better option for the output deficiency of the AD200?
Faster shutter requires HSS capability _just to fill the frame with light_ . regardless of how bright or dim the resulting light is. That's the "sync" part of High Speed Sync. And we know HSS is a huge power draw on the battery and more heat.
I'm with you, brother, I hate S brackets too
👍
Can you PLEASE review Brandon Cole's "Black Dish". It's supposed to be better with the highlights and better color. I know you won't be bias so it would be nice to hear your opinion. Thank you
That's already been debunked by numerous channels including Robert Hall
Great video!!! Adding to the cart! Do they sell “handheld grip” separately?
It comes with a bracket you can use as a handle, but I never need those, I just hold it like a can of soda
The AD100 requires running a power cable to it or are batteries an option? Great video.
No cables, its totally portable
smdv?
Is there a reseller in Europe for the Angler FastBox Octagonal?
Here in Central Europe we can buy the SMDV Flip Speedbox. Lucky these same boxes are sold under many brands
Right?
I love umbrella softboxes, I've used them for years

Since you've worked with the three of them, I'd like to hear you about this...
Any opinion/advice would be appreciated :)
Thanks!

I mean if profoto can do it that it can be done 🤷♀️
Love this video. Saved!!
Hey! thank you for the tips!
That Angler softbox it is great but too expensive for me:(( thank you !
Ok Markus I'm convinced about the ad100 pro but it costs 300€ here in Greece so I searched for a used one and a local shop has one for 200€,I can trade my TT650 and get it for 150€ but I'm concerned about the green cast. The gel you recommend in the previous video doesn't look like a safe option,I'm concerned about heat. What do you think about this deal?
The Roscoe gel is what Hollywood uses on super hot lights, so its not anything to worry about.
@@MarkusPix Thanks for your reply,I think I'm gonna proceed on purchasing with your blessings 🙏
The godox magnetic mount and the grif will cost you about 110$ more but it's still great.
The inserts are only $50 www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?q=angler%20fastbox%20adapter%20insert&sts=ma and the handle is already attached to the softbox.
@@MarkusPix I think he meant grid when he said grif. 😄
