    Dude I spent 4 days trying to get an outer race unstuck on the rear of the car in my e30. Had to weld metal to the outer race and bound it out. This video look so much so easier.

    Great video--I need two dust shields and this procedure covers it. Well done on the license.

    Based on the recommendation of an experienced German car mechanic, I never use set screws for brake rotors anymore. Way more trouble than they are worth.

      If you don't install the set screw, the rotor assy is now out of balance. It's not by much, and it's pretty close to the center of rotation, but it still will be.

      @@wysoft Yeah, and built up dirt and rust also throws the balance off. It's so little that its completely negligible.

    yeah.. One advice, you don't need to put wheel back on and lower car to loosen or tighten the nut. it is solid, it does not spin with the wheel..

    Hi Dan, I have a 91 e30 convertible and when i got the car my blower motor for the heat was working but squeaked and it eventually died out by each fan speed, then finally it went. Also my A/C and recirculation buttons stopped lighting up and working. I replaced the motor and resistor and l have nothing. The switch still doesn't work either.I have checked the fuse and relay already and they are good. I don't know what it could be. Would you have any ideas or recommendations?

    Hey Dan, I really appreciate your videos
    I did the same job a month ago, but didn't apply any kind of bearing grease... how bad is it according to you?

      Unsprung It's not completely necessary, it might be hard to remove next time.

    Tried loosening the axel nut with breaker bar and the 36mm socket seems to slip right off and I am just stripping the nut. What do I do

      After trying for 3 days to get my front axle nut off my 1984, 316, I took my whole knuckle off and took it to a mechanic down the road, he put a monster Air Gun on it and if finally broke free.

    Removing the hub nut with the wheel back on is the Bentley manual way, but why not use an impact gun if you have one?

    • @chrisdb4278
      @chrisdb4278 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just replaced the wheel bearing and posing a reply to my own question. Although I have an impact wrench, I broke the nut loose manually with the wheel back on and touching the ground. I used a 3/4" drive breaker bar with a pipe extension on it, and it came loose easily enough. I have a theory that because the nut is torqued on with such heavy force, a more robust impact wrench than the average enthusiast owns may be necessary to break it loose.

      Sebastian Holder true. Rears are a bit more difficult and time consuming. C'mon Dan, now the rears!
