I went to school with Tone and honestly I wish that he had better people around he struggled with addiction and kept finding himself doing things that put him in trouble that our school would cover up. He wouldn’t come to class, he would steal from our lockers before practice, he needed discipline and everyone was letting him go under the radar because it was putting our school in a better light for having a top recruit. Wishing him the best, thanks for covering this Matt

Honestly the whole high school ranking & star system really gets to a lot of these heads. I’d take a humble hard working 3-4 star recruit willing to grow & develop ANY DAY over these same 5 star clowns whose ego and privilege continues to ruin their own journey and infect locker rooms all over.

Kudos to Alfano for owning up to his past mistakes. And hey, overcoming epilepsy is no picnic…CFL might be a blessing in disguise for him. He can be anonymous north of the border, make some decent cash and not have to worry about the headlines. The LSU thing was bizarre, and declaring for the draft early was even weirder, but he’s clearly talented, and if he’s just a LITTLE more disciplined and focused, he could finally shine

Alfano is designated a Canadian National for roster purposes, which means he was either born or raised in Canada, or one of his parents had a Canadian passport. Since there are a limited number of Americans permitted on a team’s active roster, being designated a Canadian could allow Alfano play a whole career up North if necessary.

LOL. @3:25 I immediately knew what the problem was. But I'll let the video play and see what else may have been going on.
So yeah, watching some of his highlights... dude wasnt that good, but he was good in HS because of where he was at. In Florida, Texas, or California, he would have been 3 stars at best. Hell, he wouldnt have been any better in most states in the South where football is king.
More than any of that though, dude aint right in the head. He didnt have to put in the work in HS in NJ. Once he was going to have to put in the actual work, he didnt have the stones to do it.
This also really points out many of the flaws with the way players are graded in HS.

I think they should do away with the national rankings for HS players. Just keep state rankings. At the end of the day, idk how you can say someone is the best in the country when there’s no legitimate tangible measures of how they compare to each other (other than measurables such as height, weight, speed and etc). You can’t go by stats 100% because of the difference in the level of competition and/or the type of offense the player plays in.

There's a difference between raw talent and dedication. To play at the next level takes discipline and dedication. Some men just can't handle that. That's why only a few make it. It doesn't make him less of a person. And a lot of these kids see the corruption in college football. At least they can take some of that money now. Coaches like Saban didn't care about their players. Great coach but out for himself...

The player I remember the most being a dud was Brian Bosworth of Oklahoma Sooner fame. His pissy rich boy attitude and mediocre NFL career made him number one loser in my book.

Also, health problems aside, I don't think it was mental issues. I think he was one of those guys who wanted to play college football without rhe responsibilities of college. He was probably gonna be ruled academically inelidgeable but instead kept transferring to hide it.

All that wasted talent. He could literally be making millions right now. If he had stayed at Bama, probably would’ve been a Top 5 NFL pick smh.

It would be difficult to get insured by the NCAA if you have epilepsy. Head trauma can make it worse. A RB and LB may have no chance. QB or lineman, better odds. His bad behavior was likely only half the issue

Tony Vanzant from St Louis would be an old school story from the 80's. Voted by Parade magazine's national player of the year in 1985. He was a beast who had his career ended by having his knee destroyed playing in a all star game before his freshman year. 2,736yrds and 36tds his senior year. Career 6,128yrds and 91tds. #whatif

Two hundred grand a year is good??? Playing pro football in Canada!!???? No sir. The kind of physical toll it takes on the body is just insane. Not to mention if your injured seriously. You'll have zero money saved. Respectfully brother, I gotta disagree with you on this one. $200,000 a year is incredible money. As long as 11 other individuals aren't trying to fold me up like a lawn chair. Or if I'm a plumbing co. owner.lol
