    I had one of those bobcats, I repowered mine with a predator vtwin,and it worked great, sold mine to a local farmer with a chicken house farm, he enclosed the cab and put ac on it. Nice little unit

      @@MinimaxDieselDude most of those units only had a 16hp vanguard from the factory, mine would spin the tires if you over loaded the bucket, I wish I had pics of the red dot ac install that the new owner done

      @@MinimaxDieselDude it can be miserable in south Mississippi summers in a poop / ammonia smelling chicken house. The red dot roof top ac pulls about 15 amps, the little belt drive sandon compressor doesn’t pull much hp, the little bobcat is extremely narrow and can work in tight spaces. I think the predator is rated for 22hp

      @@MinimaxDieselDude Vanguard engines didn't exist yet when the 440/440B/Farmboys were made, they came from the factory with an 18hp Kohler Magnum flat twin. We've had one on the farm since 1986. The 18 is plenty of power, still runs great and is a little animal for cleaning horse stalls.

    Those 440 bobcats are pretty rare. Only made for a few years in the 80's. I believe they came with a 16hp kohler 2 cylinder. Sweet find. It would be fun sticking a 2 cylinder diesel in it.

      Eh, not too rare. The Farmboy model is the rare one, it's basically a stripped 440 with different decals. Kohler Magnum 18 power.

    Bobcat 440 B's engine is a Kohler M-18QS. This is an air-cooled twin-cylinder, gasoline engine that produces 18 horsepower. The engine's displacement is 42.19 cubic inches. Its rated operating capacity is 600 lbs. The engine has the Bobcat Interlock Control System (BICS) that requires the skid steerer operator to be seated with the seat bar in place and engine running before the hydraulic system and traction system can be engaged. The engine provides a top speed of 5.8 mph for the skid steerer.

    I worked at Bobcat assembling the S70 which is very similar and those had 3 cylinder Kabota diesels in them. Fun little machines

    It could be an Onan, Wisconsin or Kohler missing out of that Bobcat, probably 16 to 18 HP. Melroe was the parent company of Bobcat way back when.

    You have to make a "will ist start" with these two old Steyr Puch Pinzgauer military 4x4.
    I've never seen one of these in the US.

    Don’t underestimate those little machines, you can make a lot of money with them. I have a Case 1816B that has came in handy just as many times at my T300. I love those little machines.

      @@Bump1972 Case really had it together with their baby loaders. They have responsive steering, powerful hydraulics, and were severely under-rated. I know mine easily lifts 200 pounds more than the book says. Excellent machines. I wish I had an 1818 too lol.

    Look for a “reefer unit” off of a freezer truck. A lot of them have mini Yanmar or Isuzu diesels in them. There’s one for sale here in Maine for $500 with a .66L Yanmar diesel 11.2 HP (engine model TK3.66). Great option for small cheap Diesel engines

    Had one of those on the old farm as a kid. We had a 100 year old dairy farm and some of the aisles were too narrow for newer machines so you would have to clean out the heifer pen by hand pushing the manure into the old Badger barn cleaner. That little 440 sure was a back saver.

    Melroe developed the bobcat for cleaning out poultry barns. hense, the small size.

    I’ve got a 440b. Standard replacement engine is a Koehler magnum m18. They bolt right in, that’s what mine has. My friends we put a 22hp predator fits but have to do just a little modifications of the motor plate and put remote oil filter, and remote oil cooler.

    Just a friendly reminder to everyone. If you own a reach fork. The extend and retract chains need to be tighted periodically. Or when you hit the brakes the boom or booms with roll out and then roll back in. Mr. Waynes gth 636 is an example of untightened chains

    Bruce, A Wisconsin 4 cyl came in that 440b. I own one. My 5 yo drives it to smooth the gravel drive. We used it on the farm to clean out stalls.

    Definitely a small 3cyl diesel you have the fuel at the shop already I wonder if the same size engine that's in your epu would fit and paint the cage black with some spray bomb boom done

    I know those Kubota Reefer motors are quite wee. It just may stuff in there. If you know a truck wrecker with reefer boxes in the yard, you got lots to chose from

    Those 440s came with a little gasser v twin like a lawnmower pretty easy to hook up just call a bobcat dealer and they will tell ya where to get an engine

    The little John Deere might be a H the tag should be on the clutch side on top of the crank case towards the front. For the loader Deere looks like a 1020 I could be mistaken.

    Wish y'all were closer though my bobcat 310 in having the worst time trying to get hydraulic pressure. I put a new pump in but for some reason it's not building pressure

    Maybe you could find a small Kubota diesel, like one off a light plant? Used one on demolition job back in the early 90's. it will fit through a doorway. Not much more capacity than a wheelbarrow, but a heck of lot easier on the back! Can't wait to see how it turns out!

    We bought that same model with no engine and put a v twin predator with very little effort and it worked just fine.

    I would put a nice kubota diesel engine in it... And probably rent the thing out. Those things can get allmost everywhere so they come in handy often.... So by just looking the specs up, the kubota originally has a Kohler 16,5Hp twocilinder aircooled engine....

    Looks like it may have originally been a 18hp Koehler. If it were me I’d consider one of those Chinese air cooled diesels.

    A lot of these 440bs had Kohler Magnum 18hp engines, and some had Onans too. Mine had a Kohler and I unfortunately sold it before I could ever get her back up and going. I think the best engine for this would be a V-twin Honda engine. Also If you ever put this one up for sale I would be interested!
