Historical Conan is one of my favourite Conans.
even better than barbarian Conan.
@@ElvishShellfish You beat me to it... By two years.
@@RoosterFloyd nyuk nyuk nyuk
I so hope Conan gets back to making these. They're terrific.
yeah I honestly think this is the best format of any show he's done.
An historian making good jokes and a comic making great questions about history. And also making great jokes, too.
A historian*
Oh god. This is great. Please more of this.
Absolutely continue to produce these pieces, Conan. Enjoyed this tremendously. It's great to see you combine your interest in American history with your work.
Conan is a man of many hats. My kind of person to know. Never met Conan, but I think we can all say we know him--he's genuine and true in everything he does.
I love love the whole premise behind these 'serious jibber jabbers', this multifaceted approach lifts the whole show. Fans know Conan as the Harvard grad with a deep-rooted love for American history... this is how it comes alive, as a well-grounded and insightful 'aside' to the late-night talk show. He's in a class all his own in late night.. I always knew Consey was 'special' ;)
I'm from Spain and W.Wilson is just a president I heard about, but this conversation is highly enterntaining. This is what differences Conan from the other late show's hosts.
I praise my parents and my education for making me a person who enjoys this kind of talks.
Lol you made a compliment about Conan and turned it into praising yourself
@@h3artands0uLL 6 years. Wow. Thanks for reintroducing me to my past self. :D
@@CrackSmonka lol, the wonders of the internet. You’re very welcome
Such a fan of Conan, I bet he ends up doing a show like this when he's an old man.
+Matthew Grow He's nearly 53 already.
In addition to eating, sleeping and drinking, I've been waiting for this all week.
Serious Jibber Jabber is one of the many reasons I love Conan!!! He is giving me vintage Charlie Rose with this format; Conan and Charlie are super smart men who seem to just invite guest they honestly feel fascinated by in to just chat and be great!!!! So good. A. Scott Berg is utterly charming and brilliant so this was going to be a great interview anyhow, but the genius of Conan is how much he loves smart folks and that he allows his guest to shine. I always want to see the extended versions of these conversations. Anyhow love this show, please keep them coming!!!!
It's like watching Charlie Rose except I didn't fall asleep.
Yes, and you weren't groped with lascivious ardor.
@@frank2778Pokémon Go
I did
I'm sitting here watching this over breakfast, a college graduate with a terrible recollection of my history classes, and I find talking of W.W. uncomfortably exciting. Weird. Good work.
As a history major currently dealing with the first and second world war I found this to be very inlightening on Wilson. Especially since Conan turns out to be very knowledgeable on the subject. Love to see more of this.
I'm a long-time watcher of interview shows and I can honestly say that I like Conan better than Charlie Rose. Charlie is just so incredibly full of himself with long-winded, labyrinthine questions. Conan knows how to shut up and let the guest speak.
That shows how great of a host he really is, because often times he has to turn it on for his show and make the guest more interesting than they really are. He is able to play different roles well. I wish Conan could interview himself.
also Conan is harassing less women... so far it's been zero.
It's not a competition, you can enjoy both.
Also Conan doesn't rape people
I dont know who Charlie Rose is... so I, too, enjoy Conan better
I wish Conan had show like this on a more consistent nature, bi-weekly or monthly. Also, I wish he could get Cormac McCarthy in for one of these before it is too late
I just love this interviews, speacially the ones with historians. I wish there were more of this serious jibber-jabber
I am surprised by this. Great work.
Can you please do a serious Jibber-Jabber with Jon Stewart? I can't begin to fathom how good that would be.
John Stewart, The Green Lantern? You do realize he's a fictional character, right? Are you sure you don't mean the comedian Jon Stewart who is real?
HerrWeinachten I'm pretty sure he was talking about the comedian...
Joe Dale
Can you not get a joke?
A. SCOTT BERG: a terrific writer. Thanks for this great interview.
I live to see these intelligent people deliver information with such accuracy
Really happy to see these interviews by Conan. An intelligent guy, which people sometimes forget considering his goofy comedy, and a great interviewer. A nice intellectual alternative to Conan's usual content. Loved it!
Listened to this video, told my boyfriend all about it, then my boyfriend borrowed A. Scott Berg's book from the library for me. Just finished and loved it! Woodrow Wilson was exceptional but flawed, like all humans. I'm impressed with all he accomplished and his super human intellect and ideals.
Claudia Espinoza what made you choose to read about him?
These interviews are amazing. Learn so much by watching them.
I don't usually enjoy listening to/watching historical shows or podcasts, but I found this conversation absolutely fascinating. I feel like I've learned more/have been engaged more in U.S. History through this conversation. Moreso than the courses I've studied in college. I love Conan. He's a gift.
Heelp! I'm running dangerously low on my supplies of Serious Jibber-Jabber episodes.
Jj in u
Thank you, Conan! I hope you will continue to do these videos. You can make history accessible to our generation and show the same mind that can make us laugh, can make us examine the fabric of history that has brought us here. You should be congratulated and supported in this endeavor.
More of these types of in depth interviews please! Love It!!
Woodrow Wilson isn’t someone I’d find interesting as subject matter for a book but Berg’s biography on Charles A. Lindbergh is exceptional.
Read his book on Sam Goldwyn. It’s a magnificent biography.
@@jeffearle8172 Thanks for the suggestion-I meant to reply and forgot.
I love this, please keep making these! Good to hear some intelligent thought and discussion.
conan's my boy hes mad intelligent
It's 2022 and I'm listening to a history lesson about a country halfway across the world - and enjoying it! What an interesting discussion, and Conan's hosting is always superb.
This is an awesome series I hope you guys keep it going
I am always entertained with every one of these, I also learn a lot with each one!! Keep it up!!!!
Really amazing interview! Didn't realize how much interesting facts and experiences were had with President Wilson! A.Scott Berg is the man!
Wow these are awesome can’t believe it took me this long to find them
This was really fun to watch. keep them coming team coco
This was really enlightening and enjoyable. Great work.
more serious jiber jabber videos please
I absolutely love this format for Conan.
1:03:01..."2nd George Bush", lol. At that point, I knew he was joking.
I love this series. So good!
What a fantastic interview - this has definitely spurred my interest in Woodrow. Hope to see more Jibber-Jabbers soon!
love it. we need more like this
I love this, Conan! Keep it up please! (:
Conan is such a doll !
"I was a virgin, about a year ago"
Bring back Serious Jibber Jabber, please. @teamcoco
another excellent interview where you will probably learn something valuable
I watched this whole thing and it was worth it i learned a lot
I have to say that this series is really quite awesome. I really enjoy the Charlie Rose-esque style and conversation.
This was great!
This was great. More of these, please.
I'd like these as a podcast!
I enjoyed this, more please. 🏴
Please do more videos!
This... was amazing.
man its refreshing to see conan like this. From his comedy you could assume he wouldnt be so smart
Yeah, I agree! I mean, keep in mind Conan did go to Harvard lol
Conan is very smart, even in his comedy you can see it.
A keen sense of humor, no matter how silly, is often a great indication of intelligence.
I would say that Conan's comedy sheds light on his intelligence. From his short clips to his speeches including the Commencement speech at Dartmouth college and the White House Correspondents dinner this year. They're both hilarious and ingenious
svfin it's not that he's so smart, the man has a genuine interest in this subject.
I love these, to they also exist in mp3 format? Would love to be able to listen to this on my commute. Not that the video format isn't nice, but I don't see why there couldn't be a secondary options.
Great talk! : O
Thank you Conan for bringing some culture. Please more Serious Jibber jabber ! you should invite Steve Martin to talk about music and comedy.
This was refreshing.
This should be a TV show in PBS or something =D
wow this was awesome, would love to see James Burke =)
Love the historical Jibber Jabbers
I'm right in the middle of Berg's biography of Max Perkins. Great read.
More of this, like it.
i didnt know so much about woodrow wilson before this, thanks conan
51:51 You can tell That hit Conan on the personal level. His voice even cracked.
I dunno, in that analogy (I presume you have in mind the Tonight Show debacle) Conan would have been quietly comparing himself to both the Confederacy/Jim Crow South and WWI Axis Germany/Nazi Germany lol
I would love a series jibber jabber podcast. I listen to Conan needs a friend too.
in one of these interviews Conan said he owns several old typewriters and writes letters to his friends in an old-timy voice, just for fun.... I went to university in a City that is known for Johannes von Gutenberg, who invented a tool that allowed for mass-reproduction of books and eventually lead to the alphabetisation of the "common people"... I went in a museum about him, bought a calligraphy-set, taught myself to write in calligraphy for fun and then wrote all my friends handwritten letters with a lot of majestically beautiful looking swearwords about how long it takes to write... this segment gives me so much inside into a fellow geeks mind and life and it sets me at ease, because I know it's okay to be as weird as Conan
all we have of this history is books. it's important to piece stories together
I didn't know conan did this!!
GO COCO
Pretty cool. Glad to see Conan taking a more serious role. He still tries to be funny, which just feels weird in the interview, but I can see him doing more of this when and if he steps down from late night comedy.
I can't help but compare this author to Conans interview of author Edmund Morris who wrote about Theodare Roosevelt
What? You still read books? lmfao!
***** I'm just playing. Reading improves both your speaking and writing ability. I'm not ignorant hahahaha
Being originally from Poland, I appreciate that Wilson used his position to help to recreate statehood and independence of Poland after this country has been divided for over 150 years between Russia, Prussia and Austria.
Cudos conan
wow this is such a cool video
Mania
When you realise the length of this video
Well, as a service I think its pretty cool to bring on historians, not a lot of people know where to look to really find engaging historical stuff (me included), especially with the history channel becoming some sort of parody of itself. Especially people who don't want to read, because they think its all text book level garbage.
Yep, seems like a good way to share some of the coolness in history with a larger base of people. The more people who know about history, and consume it...well the probability for better political movements...probably goes up? Get to help this industry of history buffs and writers and seems pretty close to a public service eh.
Also probably helps augment what you can do in your career, changing how people understand you...I mean for a Harvard educated dude, I'm sure being a goober for as many years probably limits you.
+1
"conan wouldnt be so smart" Wow, really? How can anyone think Conan isn't smart?
Gffrrtra
1:55... "once" demon voice?
2:03... "war" there it is again!
Creepy
So many comments about how Conan is so intellectual and no comments discussing Woodrow Wilson's presidency.
He is very smart and i think he uses this show to flex his intellectual muscles a bit. Smart guy
👏
Some say that Woodrow Wilson was the puppet of Colonel House
People often forget that Conan is a presidential history buff
I am not convinced in the least that Wilson is a good president, let alone, as Mr. Berg said is in the top 10.
philastine The worst are always propped up (FDR, Wilson, etc) and the best get dumped on.
Omg! Wilson contracted the “Spanish Flu” right before he signed the League of Nations. Is that in this context at all ?!
I would argue FDR as being the most influential .
Conan = Charlie Rose
wow , weird being this early
Specific programs that work
Change the nature of our country
interesting interview, but I think Mr. Berg is not entirely right. He said @51:25 that Germany could have been able to pay the bill it got, and that`s not true. The Germans had to write a blank cheque and the allies didn't care, whether Germany could or could not pay, so as Germany was just not able to pay what was requested, the French occupied the Ruhr Area in 1922. And Germany paid till 1933, in that year the Germans refused to pay the first time. To say, that it isn`t the reason the Germans went to war again is completely false. There propably would not have been a second world war, if France didnt't try to destroy the german economy and the Brits didn't try to reduce the german political and military power. Mr. Berg might be an expert for Woodrow Wilson, but after what he said, he's certainly no expert for WW I + the following.
David Lloyd George for example wrote in his Fontainebleau Memorandum in 1919: "You may strip Germany of her colonies, reduce her armaments to a mere police force and her navy to that of a fifth rate power; all the same in the end if she feels that she has been unjustly treated in the peace of 1919 she will find means of exacting retribution from her conquerors."
Anyway I really like the serious Conan talks. Remembering the centenary of the start of WW I next year, Mr. O'Brien could do a Jibber Jabber with with the Australian Historian Christopher Clark who recently published a stunning book about WW I
He didn't mention Lincoln.
He looks like an aged Matt Gourley
Is jibber jabber episodes of gotten me more interested in the history of American presidents, which is saying something
Conan is so much smarter than Charlie rose
