So good to see you guys. I'm sorry for the hell you've been thru. Texas is roasting, as the rest of the world. Hell of another kind. We lost Sweetie,14, pit box in April. Her brother Bruce, 12 Border Collie mix, passed last Nov. So Jon and I were lookin at an empty dog bed and I was about to donate it to the Taylor shelter and a little terrier, whippet, Yes an tiny greyhound mix of some ilk was running down a Hwy between Burnet and Marble Falls outside of Austin. It's been almost 2 wks w a 10 lb energetic monster ratter, we named Lucy. You never know what life brings you. Jon a and Lucy mope and endure my daily absence, as I am out of retirement (at 5 3) and back teach8ng high school cuz they cant find teachers in Texas. We're sanding our house to paint but have applied white plastic trellis to the lower bit of our 1923 house after sanding and painting in an experimental area and it looks great. Your sanding video pumped me up. Talk to y'all soon. I'm so glad to have you this early Sunday morning. Thanks so much Del for 5aking the time to share yer life with us. Truly. ;)
Thanks. Sorry to hear your about your dogs. They don't last long enough unfortunately . Hope the weather cools down so you can get out and about with the new hound. It's raining here and cold for the time of year but the weather man says its going to warm up later in the week so not all doom and gloom.
Dogs can have aspirin, just check out the amount to weight but the poor boy might benefit from a heating pad. My little old chihuahua is a crippled 18 year old and I use a heated magic bag and wrapped in a bath mat to ease her pain, she loves it and she sleeps much better.
Well I think that paint job was pretty good,! very satisfying when it turns out nice, good colour, thanks for the vlog. do hope spike is improving, always difficult when dogs are older and illness happens. insurance is expensive,!! blimey . would he respond well to herbal treatment? thank you for sharing your knowledge and information. I do hope you manage to find a pub eventually , need it after all that work.!! looks like a nice spot you were moored in. good luck with everything and hope you all keep well, and do what you love as that's what keeps us all well..
Hi. Spike is on the mend and is nearly 100% fit now. It was a bit touch and go at one point as he lost a lot of weight. As for herbal medicine, I just gave him what the vet prescribed and it did the trick. I took the following day off as was aching all over from all that sanding so we moved the boat to Nantwich and went for a beer 🍺. Thanks for watching. Del and the hounds
It's hard to see your best mate start to be affected by old age. Good to hear Spike's feeling better. The boat is starting to look good with the new paint job. The colour suits it. Looking forward to the finished look.
@Boatdogtraveller My husband and I have lost many dogs through our 54 yrs together, and it's always been heartbreaking, but our lives would not have been the same without them. Digga, our 6yr old Mini Fox Terrier will be our last I think.
That's sad to hear. I've had dogs all my life as did say that when I lost my Dodger my old greyhound that there would be no more but as a single bloke walking in the countryside it's amazing that people don't talk to you like they do when you have dogs . Especially women on their own who you would usually have a good chin wag with. Same in pubs . The dogs are always being fussed and it's a great way of making new friends .
2.02 in and Spike. I read that 94% of dog food is rubbish. There are 3 super dog foods to give them. Beef liver Green muscles ? Cannot remember 3rd sorry. Superb to have you back.
My Jack Russell is 9 and i give hin infant Calpol. Turmeric-in warm milk may help Spike. I love your flog just came across it so lm looking forward to watching. Stay safe

Glad to hear Spike is doing better. Regarding the sanding, I use 3M Xtract Cubitron II Net Disc 710W. They are expensive, but cheaper in the long run as they last so much longer. Also using a vacuum connected to the sander removes more dust than the self extractor, so the discs last longer and the sanding goes much faster. Good colour!
Thanks for the advice Erik. My mate said the same that decent disks would last longer. As for the extraction , unfortunately I don't have that equipment on board. I was lucky that day that there was a breeze to blow it away. As for the colour ...its growing on me. I would have liked it darker but I'm still very happy with it ☺

Yes those vets do like to charge also I HATE painting with a passion. I could barely move the next day. Worst thing is that I've got to do the other side 😭😭😭
@@Boatdog_Traveller Trouble is meds are mostly the same as human ones & the vet training is equal to a people doctor so with no animal NHS it's never going to be cheap. Having said that I know there are vets who make it up as they go along with pricing. No regulation of vet fees sadly. Guessing your back was in half after painting then, you poor sausage.
Most small vet practices are sadly being bought up by big companies who over charge but when it's your family then cost is nothing. I would happily go without for my boys and yes let's just say I was not very comfortable the next day .
Good to see you safe and well and caring for Dodger. Am upset with the stingy government who are going to dry up the canal grant over the next few years.
Hi Sarah Thanks for the comment. As for the government, the canal and river trust are meant to be a self fu ding organisation but they are so useless that they havnt got a clue what to do. They pay their ceo £150000 a year. The top ranks are full of fat cats and when the books don't balance then they go running to the government for a hand out which the government has had enough of. They really are not fit for purpose and the canals and rivers of the uk have never been managed so badly. The sooner they are gone the better.
