It is a bit, for desperate want of a better word, "interesting", to see the juxtaposition of a near perfect international operation being followed up by such an extreme fiasco of a peacekeeping effort. And as per usual, it's the boots on the ground and the innocent folk who suffered for it.
Even there there were plenty of things going wrong in between the things going right, but that's probably every war. HBO had a great series based on the work of an embedded reporter about it called 'Generation Kill', I don't know if you've ever seen it but it's a really interesting perspective on the war from a reporter embedded with 1st Marine Recon during the invasion.
Thing is, the occupation quote on quote had more to do with the president after Bush. Because while Bush was in charge, it actually went decently. Here's the thing though, Obama DID NOT LEARN from the soviet's attempt to do the exact thing. Where they eventually pulled out, releasing what America should have, that actually occupying and pacifying the middle east does not work. It simply forces them to use new tactics, and fight like partisans in 4Gen warfare. So a lot of the blame doesn't belong to Bush, it belongs to Obama. And frankly, we NEVER should have been in the middle east to begin with. Because all we've done is waste millions of young men and women's lives for no gain. To me, this is the ultimate example of why America needs to go back to being an isolationist. We should do trade, and have our military large enough for peacetime deployment and securing our borders. But beyond that, we should not be involving ourselves in foreign wars that bring American families nothing but folded flags in place of their loved ones. We've lost too many good men and women, the pride of our nation, in a desert that can't be fixed. We should just arm Israel, and let them go ham on the middle east. I don't care for Bush, his policies like the "Patriot Act" are horrible. But I also think people misassign blame to him for things going sour when it wasn't actually his fault, but the presidents that followed him, mucking it up so badly.
Talking about events as history that I myself followed in the news as a teen always gives me such a weird feeling. And that one sentence of Indy that this event hasn't been told from an official Iraqi perspective yet made me understand why Joakim told in an earlier episode they don't really want to write songs angain about events so close to present. And, I always thought Primo Victoria was the first Sabaton song you guys wrote in history topic. Knowing that it was Panzer Battalion after all makes me somehow satisfied. This song is so underrated today, but for me, it's among my favorites.
I'd like to see a Sabaton album about stories from civil wars across history. The US, Spanish, Russian and English civil wars, the Yugoslav Wars, Vietnam and Korea all immediately come to mind as places to draw from.
My brother spent a few months commanding light armor in Iraq before getting a desk job. I hear this song, I think about what him and his comrades went through.
It started with primo victoria and it just went from there for me. I been listening for about 7 or 8 years and recently found this channel. I have to say sabaton really is a one of a kind band. They didnt start the concept of doing songs about war but they took it forward. Also not too many bands have a channel dedicated to teaching their fans about the subjects of their songs you guys are not just musicians your history teachers that happen to be in a heavy metal band. Thats very impressive i had good history teachers in school but they dont even compare to you.
I know quite a few Marines in Mobile Assault Platoons who used to blare this song. Some times, you can't see where the road will take you, but you'll never know if you don't get out and drive. Rah Indy, Rah Sabaton!
“To finish a job” Any day now, US military... (But seriously great song and history I never knew, not even the subject. Part of a time when we thought the war would end
You guys are the best history teachers ever ! I already loved history, but watching this channel and listening to Sabaton just brought it to the next level, by making it my passion !!! Thank you so much and keep up the good work !!!
I still remember the first time my farher was deployed the first time during this conflict. Nothing was told to my mother or I no clue where he was going and for how long. Next thing we knew the second Operation Dessert Storm started and my mother told me exactly where my father was. And it’s still a very interesting issue with how things are going on in Iraq. And it really makes you realize how lucky you can be just because of where you are born and to not take it for granted.
And so an era began! You know I dont think any fans would complain if you on every show you made, played that weeks Sabaton History if you had a screen available. Btw do you have any plans for how this channel is gonna run when you run out of songs? Just wait for the next album and cut down on the pace? And another thing in case I have seen it and forgotten, how did Sabaton and Timeghost meet? Its a match made in heaven but how did you meet and decide that this should be a thing?
Pär was invited onto Indy's last project 'The Great War' after Last Stand was released and they thought it up not too long after that, I believe that they talk about this on one of the videos on this channel
Well, we have a bunch of songs to do at the moment, so that problem is one for the future. Indy and Pär met when Indy interviewed him back on the TGW channel. A year ago Sabaton reached out again with an interesting idea ... and the rest is history!
To be fair. The "Mission Accomplished" banner was for The Ship. The ship has been on a 2 years long mission and ITS mission was accomplished. It helps to know the rational of the Navy operations.
As bad as Sadam was the whole war was a missed opportunity to deal with Iran. Everything that was said about and during the Iraqi was is actually true with Iran. The regime in Tehran days are still numbered. But what a missed opportunity.
I must admit, when I first started getting into Sabaton music, I didn’t realize Panzer Battalion was about the Iraq War. I assumed it had to do with German tanks or something.
Spent some good times in An Najaf, the Fedayeen HQs fell quickly once we entered the city. You could tell they had no clue how to fight a war, there were foxholes out in the open on the side of the road.
Make a video about the Greco-Italian war of 1940-1941 from the Coat of Arms song from sabaton ! PS: Love your videos and im watching your videos since day 1 :D !
to be honest, the AK-47 Kalasnikov for our times is like the sword for the medieval times. easy to produce, easy to use, easy to maintain functional. for a skilled solider the AK-47 is one of the best weapons to use vs the enemy infantry units even today. (sorry for the poor english. i am from Romania)
You mean the spear dude. Swords where sidearms meant more to display wealth and rank than to actually be used in combat, not to mention the fact they where expensive because of all the metal they used. The standard weapon for armies since the dawn of civilization has been the spear. Regardless the AK isn’t that special as far as assault rifles go.
@@baneofbanes ok. you got me with the spear fact but, even if the AK is not the best asault rifle is still good enough for the average solider in all ways and still is better than a lot of newer models of infamtry fire weapons. not for nothing is the most produced weapon design in all of our history
Has anyone a solution why it is called "panzer Battalion" and not "tank battalion" ?I mean it makes sense in songs like "panzerkampf" because is is about a battle with german tanks but this song is about a War between America and Irak (In German "Panzer" can mean Tank ,Armor,Shell or shield but I refer to the translation as Tank)
Two reasons.... 1)When TF Tarawa went in that was specifically the wording used in the planning phase as it was the inspiration for the tactics employed. 2) because of #1 those were the words that came to mind immediately upon seeing the visuals for people who have studied history. Interesting side note on that engagement....not everybody got to take that ride in Armoured Vehicles....there weren't enough. Some of thos Marines were in stripped down HMMWVS. "Unas Supra" "We ride the Storm and Quell the Thunder" BN Mottos 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment Task Force Tarawa 2003
After knowing the history of this song for a few years it finally clicked that my father was actually part of OIF and the thunder run. Once I told him he laughed at the fact that a song was made about something that he was part of. He generally is a fan of the song but he does have two issues with this video. First the U.S. Army 3rd ID (which he was part of) was also a part of the thunder run they were in Bagdad about a week before the marines. Secondly they were technically the only ones who conducted a "thunder run" as the the term refers to the rapid northward raids to cut off Sadam's forces in order to continue the attack due to the marines being behind schedule. These raids were later described as "thunder runs." To quote my father directly "the only reason the marines are remembered as being there at all was because they were always about a week behind and the journalists didn't want to be on the front lines so they got to get the photo op pulling down the statue." I think that as an artillery man he is mostly upset that he didn't get to blow it up beforehand.
Biggest mistakes in human history. -Any western country invading Russia. -"Heavier than air flying machines are impossible". Lord Kelvin. -"Star Wars will be a failure. You have the entire rights of the franchise, you will deal with the loses". 20th Century Fox to George Lucas. -"GG. Mission Accomplished". George W. Bush. -"Your Music is not interesting". Nuclear Blast to Sabaton.
I never really realized that Panzer Battalion was written almost effectively concurrent to the events it describes. That's bizarre to me when I think about how old those events are for me. I was only about 8 when they took place.
Sorry guys the thunder runs weren't conducted by the Marines but the 3rd Infantry division from the Army. The thunder run to the airport was conducted by the 1st Battalion 64th Armor Regiment the second run into the heart of Baghdad was done by my unit 4th 64th AR.
I love you guys and all the work you do as a HUGE history buff, well since I could read! (early 80's btw) But Indy, it was not the Marines that made the "Thunder Run" through Baghdad.. It was the Army. I was watching 8k feet overhead from start to finish. But I do love you all and all that you do! My only regret there is that their not a western music group telling the same stories! Or hip hop group etc etc etc....... Who needs Iron Man when one knows the story of Alvin York? Or the Lost Battalion? Love you guys and all that you do. I have even converted a couple of people to reading more history! I always point to this channel since has opened. Take care and stay safe.
This song could use a mild rewrite. The line "don't run face your fate like a man" comes out so musically flat and weird it actually kind of makes me bristle. I think you guys could do this much better justice now, and I'd love to see it.
as once one gentleman said in comments , SABATON songs are so good that they made war in their reference !!! and here is the fact , they recorded panzer battalion before even the invasion takes place , its rumored that even saddams sons used to listen to this song , not believing its gonna actually happen because of that very song ,bush listen to the song and orchestrate and stage the Invasion exactly as it depicted in the song , like many many other wars
Primo Victoria was the first Sabaton song I ever heard; I think it was on a Hellgate: London AMV, either that or Saving Private Ryan. So, when Nuclear Blast signed on with you guys, did they write you a letter saying, "Alright, we've stuck our collective feet into our collective mouths, please let us do your albums?"

Thats very impressive i had good history teachers in school but they dont even compare to you.
Thanks a lot for your message, it really means a lot to us to read things like these 😎 Keep rockin'!
Shoutout to the guy at 1:20 getting chewed out lol
They should do a song on the Second Battle of Fallujah
My stepdad participated in this as a medic behind us lines in the field hospital
I know quite a few Marines in Mobile Assault Platoons who used to blare this song. Some times, you can't see where the road will take you, but you'll never know if you don't get out and drive. Rah Indy, Rah Sabaton!
You haven't forgotten Poland 😉
The Winged Hussars Arrived
If they had forgotten Poland, I'd expect there to be some kind of uprising
Iraqi army: Yallah, why do I hear Sabaton music?
Now I imagine their tanks with wings.
Which took part in an illegal war against Iraq. And also helped devour Czechoslovakia in 38.
“To finish a job”
Any day now, US military...
(But seriously great song and history I never knew, not even the subject. Part of a time when we thought the war would end
Well that comment aged well
You guys are the best history teachers ever ! I already loved history, but watching this channel and listening to Sabaton just brought it to the next level, by making it my passion !!!
Thank you so much and keep up the good work !!!
Our pleasure! Cheers!
First early video as a patreon! Love you guys!
Thanks! We love you too, but just as a friend... It's hard, we know
14:47 There is a bug walking on his knee
When you're doing movie about The Attack Of The Dead Men?
Go watch the great war day by day, its already there
That s a nice cup you have there Indy
To be fair. The "Mission Accomplished" banner was for The Ship. The ship has been on a 2 years long mission and ITS mission was accomplished. It helps to know the rational of the Navy operations.
All presedential photo shoots are meticulously planned. Much like the teleprompter speeches. W.knew the optics, even while playing a fool.
Panzer Battalion!
Handsome Italian
@@alexmartin3191 XD
It's handsome Italian duh.
How could you hear "handsome italian"? I can't understand ...
@@BodayDonbass when the the lyric day panzer battalian just stop listening at the word "pan" and "batt" you'll hear it
I don't think I ever noticed what was on Indy's mug until now GOD I'M BLIND AND YOUR MUG IS HILARIOUS
It's the small details that we can thank Astrid for
Dang. It's hard to believe that this was all done by a single handsome Italian.
Honestly, I feel like Metalizer has some real gems on it, and it's absolutely a crime to forget it in favor of their modern sound and direction.
Thundergods is still one of my favourites.
The first military history song by sabaton and so far it cannot be topped
First i thought it was a ww2 song about panzer battalion in north Africa than i saw this video it more about war in irag in 2003
Listening to the lyrics helps too^^
the lyrics spelt it out to me "feel our napalm burn", "started a decade ago," and "blow their SAM sites clear for airstrike"
Finally! Panzer battalion is one of my favorites, thank you!
I don't care that it's 01:18. It's new Sabaton History Video
I love all of Sabaton's tank songs,
You guys are great! Awesome content.
Thanks!
Finally, been waiting for this
One of my favourites.
Same here
Spent some good times in An Najaf, the Fedayeen HQs fell quickly once we entered the city. You could tell they had no clue how to fight a war, there were foxholes out in the open on the side of the road.
I was always certain this song was about Operation Desert Storm in the First Gulf War back in the 1990s.
Ight I'm one episode down...Def a fan =) Good Job!
12:53 special guest on Par's knee (hey that rhymes)
Ah the video I've been waiting for
Make a video about the Greco-Italian war of 1940-1941 from the Coat of Arms song from sabaton !
PS: Love your videos and im watching your videos since day 1 :D !
Thanks! Love the support!
Am NCO I deployed to Afghanistan with fought in this war and was part of a tank crew. This dude was a bonafide badass.
I love Pär's laugh. Great episode.
Did not show up in notifications. Good thing this showed up in things I may like
Certainly is! Annoying how TH-cam works sometimes...
Can you make about The Last Battle please?? One of my favorite!
Yup, one day!
Sabaton History Aight!!! I'll for it!!
to be honest, the AK-47 Kalasnikov for our times is like the sword for the medieval times. easy to produce, easy to use, easy to maintain functional. for a skilled solider the AK-47 is one of the best weapons to use vs the enemy infantry units even today.
Now to finish the trilogy off, “In the name of god”
Great song. Great episode of Sabaton history. Great job guys
"Unas Supra"
"We ride the Storm and Quell the Thunder"

Task Force Tarawa 2003
This was my first Sabaton song
A batallion of hamsters lead by one _Handsome Italian_ ready to beat the shit outta Saddam. The US Army is just the sidelines.
Little tip Panzer is short for Panzerkampfwagen that translated into english is Tank or Armored
11:21 B O I
One of my favorite songs from Sabaton!
10:10 Hahahaha, I remember the "Comical Ali" as he also was called. He was hilarious! He made premium desinfotainment *LOL*
Love this series!
I learn more about History I like in 3 days from Sabaton then I learn in a year from school.
Watched the update on the copyright first, now to get to the content I actually enjoy!
I have to love this, as Panzer Battalion is the first ever song I heard from Sabaton and the one which got me maddly in love with them! Noch ein bier!
I was with C Battery, 2/43 ADA during Invasion of Iraq. We were attached to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
This song could use a mild rewrite. The line "don't run face your fate like a man" comes out so musically flat and weird it actually kind of makes me bristle. I think you guys could do this much better justice now, and I'd love to see it.
This is my favorite song
as once one gentleman said in comments , SABATON songs are so good that they made war in their reference !!! and here is the fact , they recorded panzer battalion before even the invasion takes place , its rumored that even saddams sons used to listen to this song , not believing its gonna actually happen because of that very song ,bush listen to the song and orchestrate and stage the Invasion exactly as it depicted in the song , like many many other wars
Song: American
Band: Swedish

Primo Victoria was the first Sabaton song I ever heard; I think it was on a Hellgate: London AMV, either that or Saving Private Ryan. So, when Nuclear Blast signed on with you guys, did they write you a letter saying, "Alright, we've stuck our collective feet into our collective mouths, please let us do your albums?"
you know, i think that's the exact same story for me with that exact same Hellgate AMV
Can you play this song in london next year?, it's one of my favourites and I just got tickets for christmass .
Pär is wearing a freaking Avatar(Hail the Apocalypse album) T-shirt!
I didn't think I could respect Pär even more!
We need a Tsar Bomba cover honestly
