If I had to describe the impression this anime gives me through a combination of animes, I'd say that this is like a combination of 'Black Butler', 'Moriarty the Patriot' and a bit of 'Hell Girl'.
Couldn't hv described it in a better way damn I was thinking the exact same thing when watching the trailer.
Funny thing is when they mention the guy with the cane with the letter M written on it, my mind immediately went, “Moriarty?” Like, I can’t find any mention of a version of Moriarty having a cane like that, but for some reason it stuck in my mind. The time period would fit too. It’s probably not him as that would be so random but still it’s a funny thought.
more like 'gosick' both the premise and tone is very similar

This gives me a lot of bungou stray dogs and the case study of Vanitas vibes! So excited!
Most intriguing anime of this season solely because of the crazy stacked staff (including the Kaguya-sama director).

Easily 8/10 for me and I´m pretty critical with scoring animes

Just an FYI for fellow cat lovers, there is a cat death in the first episode. A cat is attacked by some vile villagers and then scared off by the MMC and then the main three cast members later find its body. A cat monster is also fought and then implied to be killed by the MMC off-screen. -Signed, a cat person tired of gratuitous cat death in media.

It's not gratuitous tho: it perfectly serves to show the vileness of the setting, a country leading a genocidal purge against its non-human inhabitants in the name of progress
