easiest way to trap house sparrows out of a bluebird or purple martin house

one thing I really think I'm an expert at is trapping house sparrows and Starlings. this is the easiest way to remove a male house Barrel that has no mate. you don't have to put any kind of trap on the house to get them out.

What is your technique for dispatching the house sparrows after you catch them?

I have the Trio ST-1 bought in 1992, I caught around 40-45 HOSP in 2014 my silly neighbor was letting them use a see Rock City house, said she liked washing dishes and looking at them, silly old woman wouldn't even believe me when I told her what they do' since then when 7 years' a pair of HOSP show up last month, got the female, with bread, nesting material. Love the ST-1 its deadly.

How do you get the bait sparrows? The initial pair?

This particular scenario I probably caught the female in the Martin house. With a sparrow trap. I also have a repeater that's usually filled with house sparrows. Push comes to shove I have a neighbor about a quarter of a mile away who traps them as well I'll go to her to get one. The other thing I will do is possibly go to an area that has a high house sparrow population with this trap and I put a piece of bread in it. I have a friend about 5 Mi away she feeds all the birds and she has nothing but house sparrows I just put that trap underneath the bird feeder and I'll have one in about 2 minutes

Here's another good trick. Go to your local McDonald's with this trap. Buy some french fries. Throw a french fry out the window see how fast a house bear will come and get it. Do that a couple times. Open the car door stick the trap out put a couple french fries in it. That should take about 50 seconds

i have this trap and bait it with bread like he said. Once you catch one it brings the others in to it. I am going to put grass in from now on.

It's not about putting grass in it it's about putting the nesting material in it if you pull out the nest Play House barrels will immediately start to rebuild their nest with the material that you pull it out with. Play some of that material in that trap. I don't wait until they build a nest I want to get rid of them before they even start

Why did they stop making this particular design of a trap? Seems well made to get the job done!

Because it was made out of Chicago. They didn't think it was worth the effort. All Trio Martin houses in Trio products are now made out of Chicago. I found the Amish version of it it's actually much better

So do you keep a male and a female always as a lure?

There used to not be as many house sparrows in my neighborhood until some smart one decided to put up a Martin house and let house sparrows take over the whole thing and now thanks to that there population has gotten out of control where I live. Just be warned, do not put a Martin house up without monitoring and taking care of one because if you don’t house sparrows will take it over and then you’re just creating a massive sparrow population.
