Relativamente all’IMMENSO ARTISTA, FRANCO CORELLI, ineguagliabile e ineguagliato, la SUA ARTE, LO STUDIO COSTANTE E ASSIDUO ALLA RICERCA ( Da LUI raggiunta) della PERFEZIONE , lo pongono sulla vetta più alta dell’Olimpo dei Tenori. Sono ormai stati usati tutti gli aggettivi possibili per definire la SUA GRANDEZZA, eppure non saranno mai sufficienti a far comprendere quanta emozione suscitino le SUE interpretazioni! È stato GRANDE anche perché ritirandosi dalle scene ancora nel pieno delle SUE capacità vocali e interpretative, ha lasciato solo RIMPIANTI, ma NON COMPIANTI!!! E questo, solo un completo, infinito ARTISTA come Lui poteva fare!!!!
Corelli e Ghiaurov semplicemente STREPITOSI! Franco era in serata fi grazia e tirava fuori do e si sopracuti come nulla fosse! Una POTENZA DELLA NATURA!!!
@@remomazzetti8757 I think everyone knows that this is my opinion. I heard dozens of recordings this opera (it’ was my first and is my favorite opera) and from what I heard I came to this conclusion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And I will like to hear your own.
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia I heard it. The recording lack the shine of corelli, in the 70s he was great but in the 60s he was at his prime. Hear the phrasing, the high c’s twice!! I found Kabaivanska very good here (although I love Janowitz more....my taste) and Dominguez is absolutely superb! Even better then Bumbry. It’s my taste after all. Although I love Caballe and she is one of my favorite “Elisabetta”s - this recording is still the best for me.
I saw Kabaivanska in Don Carlo at the Met [Domingo/Merrill/Siepi/Bumbry] _ she sang beautifully but was a stiff actress: almost looked as if she were in a back brace. Imagine that type of cast these days 😂😂
Dear Chenier, Thanks for this posting. I have a copy of this performance but it’s not in very good shape these days partially due to the fact that I failed to take better care of it. The initial sound quality could be better as you wrote here but at least the singers involved are vocally in pretty fine shape & that comes through well. Corelli has given more disciplined performances but sounds glorious as usual. Ghiuselev & especially Ghiaurov are splendid vocally if not so interesting interpretively. For me the 2 who really stand out are Dominguez (one of the really great mezzos during this period) & Quilico. At this time the baritone’s voice was at its absolute best & he makes a very sympathetic Rodrigo. It may the best singing I have ever heard from him for that matter. Kabaivanska as Elisabetta also does some fine work here.
Magari in quell'epoca un Mario Sereni o un Bruscantini, un Cappuccilli... al posto di Quilico... O un baritono di maggior qualità, visto il livello del cast ! Boh.
Interesting recording. I don't mean to be negative but Dominguez is awful to my ears: She wails and seems under powered. The rest of the cast is delightful to listen to. The audience certainly loves the singers!
I mean, is 1966. The Dominguez everyone remembers is her Amneris in 1951 with Callas, where she belted enormous high Bs in the third act. But her low notes are there even in the veil song. I enjoy her even more on Falstaff, where she was an unrecognized Quickly with strong low notes such as Barbieri's.
