    This short video will show you an easy way to replace the wand tilt mechanism on your Horizontal blind. For replacement tilt mechanisms please visit fixmyblinds.co...
    The tools you'll need for this repair are scissors, a tape measure, and pliers.
    Remove the blind removed and place it on a flat work surface
    Remove the wand from the blind and set it aside.
    Measure the height and width of the end of the headrail.
    With the pliers, remove the rail stiffeners that are pressed into both ends of the headrail.
    Slide the metal tilt rod shaft enough to disengage the tilt mechanism.
    Slightly spread the headrail and remove the tilter.
    With the tilter removed, you can now identify the size and shape of the tilt rod hole.
    Use these 2 parameters to determine which tilter is a proper fit for your blind.
    To find the correct tilter, visit our Tilt Mechanism Buying Guide here: fixmyblinds.co.... Find the correct headrail measurement and click on it. Find the correct rod size and shape and click on it. Order your tilter.
    Install the new wand tilter by seating the tilter, then sliding the tilt rod through.
    Replace the end stiffeners.
    Attach the tassels, and rehang the blind.
    Test your repair.

    Directions on video worked perfectly. Took me 10 minutes from start to finish. Thanks. Sad to think it took me 17 years and 10 minutes to fix this. :)

    What do I do if my tilt rod doesnt move? Theres 2 little circles on the rod preventing it from moving past the first vertical holder thing. I cant get the tilt mechanism out :(

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Taylor, Some tilt rods do have rivets, washers or pinches/bumps on them that prevent them from moving. The best thing to do is to file that bump away with a metal file. Then you'll be able to move the rod freely and replace the tilt mechanism.

      Usually, it cannot. You could try calling some blind retailers in your area and see if they sell parts. Or, we carry them on our website at www.fixmyblinds.com.

    I had no problem replacing the tilt gear, but my blinds will still easily tilt. It's as if the rod is stuck and not able to rotate. I have been troubleshooting for a long time and can't figure out what is restricting the rotation of the rod. Any ideas? I know it's not hitting the stiffeners and it doesn't seem like the string is caught or tangled?

    • @Stephteeee
      @Stephteeee 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      *Will still NOT easily tilt

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does your blind have a valance on it? Maybe one of the valance clips is in the way of one of the drums. Or, maybe a string is tangled inside the top of the blind? How wide are these blinds?

    • @Stephteeee
      @Stephteeee 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      FixMyBlinds thanks for responding. No valance.. they looks just like the blinds in this video. They are 2" blinds and 6 feet wide. I can't find any tangles but when I try to turn the drums by hand they don't move easily at all. I will have to look closer maybe.

    Video directions make it sound easy, However when you go to this company's website it does not match the video for instructions.. If it did it would be easy!

      It's true that our website has been updated since this video was made, and it looks different now. The instructions for measuring the headrail and the size and shape of the tilt rod are the same. If you need any additional help finding the right replacement part, please let me know. We're here to help! Here's a link to the instructions on our website: fixmyblinds.com/collections/tilt-mechanism-buying-guide.

    Hi do you have any tips on how to shorten the width of a horizontal blind a good 20" or so?...Thanks!

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dee - If you need the width shortened, I'd recommend having the blinds professional cut to size. There's no really good way for most folks to do that with tools in their garages.

    I have a rod that doesn't slide put all the way. it seems as if it has something in place to avoid the rod sliding. Any idea how to remove a tilt rod that's secuere? anyone? :-)

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Cleva Cali If a rivet or crimp is on the tilt rod between the tilt mechanism and cradle you need to pull the tilt rod up out of the cradles so you can slide the tilt mechanism freely. If a rivet or crimp in the tilt rod between the tilt mechanism and end stiffener you need to slide the tilt rod out of all the components in the headrail. Here is a diagram to reference: www.fixmyblinds.com/identify-your-part/wood-faux-wood-venetian-blind-diagram.html. If you have any other questions please contact us at service@fixmyblinds.com.

      Our standard shipping starts at $6.99. The price for shipping when a new wand is purchased an be a little surprising, however. Are you purchasing a wand? If you were just purchasing a new tilt mechanism, the shipping would be $6.99.
