- Hi everyone, I wanted to make this video to just explain in a bit more detail the real reasons why I decided to leave Corralejo, Fuerteventura.

Hi David, thanks for the explanation. I guessed rent and career would be an issue there. Interesting how you indicated another factor .I first came to Corralejo 2003,4 and 5 in the summer with my wife and kids. Since retirement in 20 11 I have been coming a couple of times each winter to escape our weather. The place has changed and the characters you mentioned are more apparent. Also so has the tourist demographic ( i have seen British tourists approaching said characters to make purchases). Still the weather has not changed so I will be there again in a couple of weeks. I always enjoyed bumping into you when I was over there and your informative vlogs. All the best to yourself and Izzie and I think you are making the right decision.

We’ve literally just come back from Corralejo and couldn’t believe how many “people” are living in the closed down hotels (oasis village)!
And also looks like a massive problem at oasis Duna 😮
Corralejo has definitely had a changed vibe we were quite shocked!

Just from savings! I don’t travel that often. I lived in Fuerteventura for 5 years hence so many videos there!

We were sat having a drink outside mainstreet bar one afternoon and the black guy sat under the tree was intimidating everyone who walked past , he even called my wife a white slag ffs.

What exactly are the police doing about such characters? Eventually tourists will avoid the island so it's in their best interests to deal with louts and anti-social elements.

Interesting. Are real estate prices already falling? It never really went up to the level before 2006. And now the next dawn?
Totally understand why you went on to leave the island. Corralejo has been on a decline in my opinion. People changed in a negative way. The town is very not clean or keeping up with fixing the streets or buildings. Bad people on the corners at the Atlantic Center. 2020 just changed it negatively. And now to make a living there is difficult. Renting is difficult. Corralejo and the island definitely need a change.
That’s exactly it. For all of those reasons and also the fact of wanting a career which wasn’t possible there too made me decide to leave

There’s no specific nationality at all to this statement, there is just a group or groups of bad people gathering around the town in the last year or so especially. It’s absolutely not one nationality just to be clear

Corralejo is a shit hole now. I went 9 years ago and it was okay, I passed through a few weeks ago whilst staying in Lajares and I couldn't believe how much of a dump it has become. Just avoid the place if you are going to visit Fuerteventura. I do feel that this Island has had its best years and is now on the verge of being destroyed by tourism. It will go the same way as Tenerife and Lanzarote.
Good luck to you both whatever you do, you can always return when your old 😂il bring my Brolly and wack them all whoever they are😂😂. First time we got asked if we wanted Charlie. Outside the steak house. Dont think so love rather have a fat steak. Why don’t all the bar and shop owners get to the police station. Take photos when they arnt looking. Were from Liverpool so Corralejo is still quaint to us 😂😂

Best of luck to you. Yeah, Corralejo has changed and there is a nasty element around the town. Noticed last year and worse this year. People who have been visiting for years and don't notice it; well, seriously open your eyes. Authorities there need to wake up. It will (and is) damage the town. Keep up the great work with the videos.

I was there in early October, seamed a lot of beggars around on main st all hours of the day and night.
We popped in main street bar 1 evening to say hi..but you had finished the week earlier.

The Spanish people and police mainly don't care they treat you as if you only going to be there once they don't worry about you coming back next year it seems to me plenty of nice Spanish people about though

We regularly have a week in fuerteventura we go to most of the resorts just got back from morro jable we were in corralejo september and i noticed that the atmosphere in parts of the main street weren't what they were. Well the best of luck in your job hunt.
I think it’s very apparent recently. It’s a real shame because it is affecting tourism negatively but the authorities don’t seem to want to do anything.
The Spanish people and police don't care it seems to me , they treat you if you are going to be there only once, they don't worry if you don't come back next year

Very best wishes to you and Izzy ….Always enjoyed your videos……I am fortunate to split my time between UK and Corralejo so I get the best of both worlds …..personally have not noticed the disturbing trend you and some of the comments received refer to …..there have always been Mafia connections to Corralejo and its proximity to North Africa creates additional exposure to potentially people with undesirable intentions……AirBNB, similar short term rental platforms and Digital Nomads with a proper job have probably contributed to the spike in rents……All said and done ultimately if you visit as a Tourist you tend to see things differently compared to people who permanently reside in a place…..UK, Corralejo, Crete …….Best Regards

Is this just like, there’s a bit of sketchy annoying people around corralejo and it can be irritating? Or is it like, if you park your car on the side of the road at the dune park and stay till 11p it’ll get broken into and you might get robbed and stabbed? Is this present around Lajares and cotillo or just around corralejo?
Definitely the former. As a tourist I would say keep your wits about you but it is completely safe. These are more irritating things from a locals view I guess 👍🏻
I think just a Corralejo problem, and only really around the commercial centre and Main strip

On vacation there now and hating every minute of it, came here 9 years ago as a teen and it’s so bad here now food has gone down hill even fado rock, all the food in every restaurant is the same food,
full of “undesirables” full of mobility scooters, feels like Benidorm and that’s fine if that’s your thing but it’s not mine I bought this as a gift, feel like I’ve wasted my money just want to go home
Next time rent a car and stay in Lajares or El Cotillo.

I find it very safe you find a few what shall I call them " druggies" hanging around near the Steps around Flicks but I give them a wide berth and have never been bothered by them and I go 3 or 4 times a year. You will be fine, enjoy.

Hi David, we met once at Main Avenue bar, if I was you I would avoid media work in the UK. That is if you wan't to keep your moral integrity intact. I’ve been going to corralejo for years and was there in July for ten days and tbh didn’t notice any real difference in a negative way. Can you be more specific about the “bag eggs” you mention?
It’s definitely less noticeable if you’re there on holiday, as I said I would return for a holiday but I don’t want to live amongst it anymore
