For those who have less money for an aparment, keep in mind that prices out of touristic zones - La Oliva or Puerto del Rosario - can be -20% then in Caleta or - 30% then in Corralejo.

Bravo and thank you for an amazing job covering in detail all the expenses! One of the ting I love to know is the yearly property taxes on the house. Thank you again! :)
Another great vid girls 👏👏 Had our holiday home in Fuerte for 15 yrs , and had to use house insurance twice due to water leaks . Both times sorted within 5 days ( fixed and decorated ) and surprise NO EXCESS, when we enquired they asked what is excess. Looking forward to going back ASAP.
Hi Geoff, may I ask please, how did you get to the initial idea for your holiday home there - could you share a little bit of back story, was it easy?😊
Hey ladies, love your vlogs. My question: Would you have desire and capacity to do a video on how you built your swimming pool? I thought I heard you mention that you built the pool for a large part yourself? Would love any tips you had on that topic.
It's always interesting to hear a new perspective on moving here: I first moved to the Islands nearly 20 years, so it's easy to lose perspective. I do need to point out that the amount of council tax that you are paying is in no way representitive: for a three bedroom house, it would normally be about 3 times that. I can't speak for your locality, but I imagine that the valuation on your property is either incorrect or has not been revised in many, many years. The council tax on even a small apartment would normally be more than you are paying. Still a lot less than in the UK though!
I think Antigua last did a municipality wide appraisal in 2002. We’ve reported works done and had a one off bill to pay based on licence and building costs but IBI has stayed the same. It seems to be in line with neighbours bills in the same village too so who knows 🤷♀️ As you say though, even if it trebled we would still be a lot better off vs UK 👍
Wow what an absolute wealth of information that was, thank you very much. Not to mention the amount of time it would have taken to get all that info together, edit it, check it, upload it (especially on that upload speed) hat off to you both for another superb vlog, thank you girls, stay safe 😎👍🏻
interesting vlog good info, certainly need an electric heater in UK at moment ! Sounds like property there more affordable than Tenerife if you dont stay in resorts ?
I must admit we’ve never looked at prices in Tenerife but I imagine resort areas there would be more expensive. I think part of the reason prices are so affordable here is due to the lack of job opportunities. Makes it a great choice for retirement but not so good for those who need to work
That was brilliant.Just one addition...live football. Tereca league Union Puerto ,Gran Tarajal - 5 euros Preferente League El Cotillo ,Herbania and Las Playitas - 4 Euros.

Really interesting, and it all adds up though doesn't it. If you add property rental costs, its not as cheap as you might first think, although still cheaper than the UK. Worth it for the better lifestyle though.
Really interesting we stay on a farm and the waste tank is called a septic tank, when we come self catering prices are fine except for salad cream, ouch
Fantastic video very helpful thankyou. Are jobs available over there (in regular situation obv) and what about schooling? How does that work for English?
Jobs are the tricky thing here. Mostly linked to tourism which has obviously taken a huge hit. Unfortunately lots of people currently unemployed. There are no English speaking schools here so children have to integrate into Spanish immediately. From people we’ve spoken to that seems to be a good thing as children adapt quite quickly, although probably easier if they are primary school age.
People often ask me about our running costs here in Mallorca,, some of our costs are a little more eg car insurance,, but costs are pretty much the same... thanks anyway..

well done girls on ur excellent video on the costs of living in fuerteventura its nice to see that both of you are enjoying it living there and i dont blame you one bit now that you mentioned the lidil prices i might visit again to the new one that is near us at mansfield woodhouse
Thanks girls very informative and straightforward. Hoping to move to canary or Spain in the next couple of years. Do you have a average price on communial fees there? Thanks, 😃
It’s difficult to say an average price as I believe some communities include utilities with theirs. Could be anything from €50-150/month but I think the most important thing is to find a community that is well managed. Look closely at how things are maintained and get the person handling the conveyancing to go over the accounts and make sure they look ok. Some communities have really struggled with managing non payments and absent owners.
Thank you. You 2 ladies are so helpful. Banking Charges:- As a Non Resident I pay a fortune per quarter to Solbank Banco Sabadell. I can’t find any but do you think I might find a cheaper Bank? A Lawyer pays our Non Resident taxes annually. She now charges 75 euros. Do you think that is the going rate. Or should we learn how to pay our taxes ourselves? Big hug Colinxx
I don’t think there’s any way around the non-resident banking charges unfortunately. They’re such a rip off but was only able to get rid once we were residents. €75 for filing taxes does seem to be the going rate, I’ve seen others charging up to €100 so I don’t think that’s too bad for the peace of mind that it’s been sorted for you.

For a rough idea, take the UK list price and discount it by 13%. That number is roughly what the list price would be here. Most people would then convert that back to £ and see a huge difference. So a £20,000 car appears to be around £15,400. It's not actually quite as good as that though as you can easily get a discount off list price in the UK by haggling a bit. They don't appreciate haggling on new cars here 😂 The true saving ends up being the difference in VAT (7% here vs. 20% in the UK).We've experienced the same discount on servicing costs.
Thanks for taking the time and research for the Cost of Living video Amelia and Sarah it gives a brilliant insight into how much it would cost to live in Fuerteventura. I am so surprised at how much cheaper some things are compared to the UK. No wonder you don't want to come back to the UK 😂😂
Hello ladies, Excellent summary and a good understanding of the costs which I'm sure will appeal to interested people considering a change of lifestyle on a permanent basis. And it gives us all food for thought most definitely. Four quick questions please.. Firstly what are the agents fees when purchasing through them or even renting through them? And secondly of course what are the lawyers fees in respect of a purchase? And finally a curious question about the land should anyone be interested in a purchase, who owns the land the property sits on and its boundaries, is it freehold, leasehold etc?. Certainly from a health and lifestyle view point coupled with general cost of living it's a no brainer, but did you give any thought to risks re a tsunami or earthquake and would insurance cover those scenarios.. again more curious about your views on this than trying to deter people on the prosperity of any move.. Thank you once again for the coverage, take care. Regards Ian x
Hi Ian, 1. No fees for purchasing via an agent, they get their fee from the seller (sellers pay 5-6% here so more than the UK). Pretty sure its the landlord that covers admin costs with rentals too but you'd need to put down a security deposit. 2. They say you'll need an additional 10% on top of the purchase price to cover all your legal fees and purchasing costs. We found it ended up being 9% for us so not far off. 3. Very important to get good advice on this. There is something called 'nota simple' that confirms ownership of land. Usually freehold unless they're on an apartment complex. Person handling your conveyancing also needs to make sure all paperwork is in place to confirm its a legal build with all the correct licences and permissions. Apartments will have a service charge or management fee and its important to make sure the books are in good order as some run up huge debts that are hard for the community manager to recover. That can obviously affect the general upkeep of the complex. 4. I did look at earthquake and tsunami risk and its very low. There is some seismic activity under the ocean South West of El Hierro but doesn't seem to affect their island directly. We did plenty of research and really the only disadvantage to living here is if you need to work as the salaries are low and job opportunities largely linked to tourism.
@@AmeliaBolger thank you and once again excellent pointers for consideration and the scope of thought. I very much appreciate from both of you the guidance you've given to all the aspects of life on the island, it's refreshing to listen to you both on all subject matter which is always extremely well balanced. You certainly made the right decisions on leaving your careers behind you and leaving the UK, and found that your lifeskills provide a safe and secure future for you. X I'm certain a day will come when our paths will cross however destiny plots our life journey's in strange ways lol. 🙂
The wife and I always love your videos and this one was exceptional ! we ourselves really miss your sunny Isle and want to move to Fuerteventura at some time soon and found this all very Interesting and informative...Thank you Ladies so much ! Keep up the Good Work !
Some excellent information and thank you for a brilliant film. It was a great insight into living costs on the island, I had no idea if it was more or less expensive than the UK overall. I hope I can visit Fuerteventura around November time this year. I look forward to the next film, take care, regards, Chris.
Excellent video well done. If we was thinking of buying a home there at 65. Would you know the cost of medical insurance? Would it go up every year after or would it go down because you're a pensioner?
Under the current rules if you're 65 + and in receipt of UK state pension then you qualify for reciprocal healthcare so you wouldn't need private health insurance. You obtain an S1 form from the UK and register on the Spanish system free of charge.
Thanks girls very informative and extremely useful to know. I guess its better to buy property if you can rather than rental so thats good to consider. Can not believe the petrol and all costs for car stuff, water ect so much cheaper than here in Yorkshire. take care and keep enjoying the beautiful sunshine days kirsty
Very good and informative video ladies , Thankyou very much , we usually go to Lanzarote annually but come to furte to see my mate that lives in la jares ,, hope to see you on our travels 👍👍
Excellent very informative video ladies. Just one question for you which I didn’t understand, why would a bank owned property not have a kitchen or bathroom?
I think it’s because a lot of their stock were developer repossessions so they weren’t complete. Developers on new builds here often leave kitchens and bathrooms until last so that they can be spec’d to the owners choosing.
Can you both , do a video one day, of Happy Plants garden center? Very usful.when property buyers need to landscape, very interesting to see what choices, we have, on island,

Difficult to find hairdressers who do dreadlocks here. There is apparently a lady in Corralejo who might be able to help. Her name is Enza and she has a shop called Zazamira on Calle Iglesia. She has helped other people with dreadlock maintenance recently
Hi Amelia and Sarah, thanks for this very useful video!! I'm following you from Italy, all of your videos are always very interesting. My husband and I are thinking about moving to Fuerteventura as early retirement as you did, we know the island well and appreciate the slow living. I have a question about the private health insurance. Which company do you use? I've been searching for info and prices online but I'm not sure which company can be reliable, there are so many! Just to have an idea. Thanks in advance!
Hi! We used Sanitas for the first 2 years and now use Caser. Both companies are good but we got a better price with Caser. All of the companies give you access to the same doctors and hospitals so just get a few different quotes 👍
Fantastic information on buying a property out in Fuerteventura!! Can’t wait to come out & view lots of properties & get the ball rolling!. Can I ask you were in Antigua/Caleta do I get my Private Health insurance! It would only be for myself as my Husband is at Retirement age would he have to apply for an S1 Form & also would this cover dental treatment. Xx
We used Sanitas for the first 2 years and now use Caser. Both have websites where you can get a quote and deal with an English speaking advisor. We found it much cheaper going to the companies direct rather than through a third party who needs to collect commission. All of the doctors, clinics and hospitals are the same here no matter who you are insured with. We’d happily use Sanitas again but just found Caser were cheaper this time around. I’d recommend paying as you go for dental. We couldn’t find any dentists in Fuerteventura that were included on the private plans so not worth paying extra for it.
Thanks for video. Considering moving near you to Lanzarote, as we have family there. Even after Brexit you have shown financial savings of domestic bills which are so much cheaper than UK. What medical insurance do you find the cheapest, recommend ? Hoping we can get our visas , just dreading thought of re taking driving test again
Greetings! Just a couple of questions: do you generate any of your own power e.g. solar and is there an infrastructure yet for electric vehicles? Also can you give an indication of the cost of Spanish language lessons? Great video as always.
Your healthcare insurance is very reasonable seeing as for both of you, the comvenio especial would cost 1440€ per year Just one thing I wanted to mention and I don't mean to put a downer on it but sadly it's reality.....now the UK has left the EU the immigration criteria is that a of a third country national hence you need an income whether via work or a passive income of 4xIPREM which is generally mentioned...4xIPREM = 25,800€
Yes residency requirements have of course changed since we did it. As you say, at the moment it’s pointless paying more for convenio especial when we get access to private healthcare at a cheaper cost. Will see how things go but we’re actually paying slightly less now than we were 2 years ago!
Very informative guys, personally I think we're being ripped off over here in the UK but hey-ho, swings & roundabouts. So, can I pose a question? How is brexit going to effect people like yourselves who have chosen to up-sticks and live elsewhere? Do you envisage changes of any kind? Is information on such things open & transparent?
It doesn't. We found some companies say its included but when you look at the small print its not worth having. Our first provider said it included 1 check up and then some discounted treatments but when we checked the list to see where the dentists were there wasn't any in Fuerteventura just Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Easier to self insure the dental side and pay as you go!
Hi girls Very informative and interesting. We found a villa 8 years ago and worked out living costs then similar to yours but before we could go through with it all my husband became very ill and is still having on going treatment so our dream of living on fuerteventura is just a dream now😪. We have to make do with holidays there every year . Which we are not getting at the mo. We went with goldacre at the time also nicholas tan ! They were very helpful. You didnt mention clothes expenditure? . Also what is a typical day like for you both eg what you have to eat for the whole day ,what you do ? . Stay safe and well girls 🥰
I decided not to add clothes expenditure in as wanted to keep it more to day to essentials. We don't spend much on clothes as it's not something we feel we need to anymore. I think after going from wardrobes full of suits and labels in the UK its been really refreshing to go minimal. We pick up a few items when we go to the US as the selection and prices are really good but here we seem to live in tshirts, shorts and flip flops 😂 I hope you'll get to come back out to your villa soon. I'm sure you're ready to escape!

hiya ladies great vidio thanks for sharing take care look forward to next vidio do you live in a villa 💖
Thanks Debra, yes we live in a villa
Thanks for taking the time and research for the Cost of Living video Amelia and Sarah it gives a brilliant insight into how much it would cost to live in Fuerteventura. I am so surprised at how much cheaper some things are compared to the UK. No wonder you don't want to come back to the UK 😂😂
Hello ladies,
Excellent summary and a good understanding of the costs which I'm sure will appeal to interested people considering a change of lifestyle on a permanent basis.
Hi Ian,
Great video as usual ladies..... i salute the 2 of yous!!! Your both living the dream 😃😃😃
Some excellent information and thank you for a brilliant film. It was a great insight into living costs on the island, I had no idea if it was more or less expensive than the UK overall. I hope I can visit Fuerteventura around November time this year. I look forward to the next film, take care, regards, Chris.
Great video, very detailed information!
Hi Amelia & Sarah
You mentioned getting some work done on your property. Is there a builder you can recommend in the area?
Ladies great informative video one question what IPTV provider do you use, ad I'm paly more then you.
Thanks
Great information. You've confirmed what I always thought rip off Britain. If we were younger would love to move there.
Your never too old😀
Brilliant info girls , see you in fado rock in june fingers crossed.
@@AmeliaBolger thank you
Thank you very Informative as we didn't factor some of the costs can't wait to move looks like a little longer maybe end of year 🇬🇧🇬🇧🍺
Thanks girls very informative and extremely useful to know.
@@AmeliaBolger aah that makes sense thanks for replying 👍
Can you both , do a video one day, of Happy Plants garden center? Very usful.when property buyers need to landscape, very interesting to see what choices, we have, on island,
How do prices of everything compare now over a year on from when the video was made?
I love it how most of the groceries section was about alcohol :-D
What a great video we can't wait to come over again we miss it so much
Please can you give my wife laura walker a shout out it will really make her day we watch all your videos an our family think they are brilliant
My water bill in UK is 40 quid a month
14.20 Sarah, you old cynic!!
27.17 - Sarahs' face 🤣
Great vlog ladies, so much important information to be digested and researched, glad I was taking notes.
My partner is of carribean origin , is it possible to get dreadlocks done at the local hairdressers
Difficult to find hairdressers who do dreadlocks here. There is apparently a lady in Corralejo who might be able to help. Her name is Enza and she has a shop called Zazamira on Calle Iglesia. She has helped other people with dreadlock maintenance recently
Honda Jazz are the most reliable car on the road according to AA.
Breakdowns are very very rare.
Very useful information, thank you 🙏😊
Very informative guys and food for thought 🙂.. Hope Sarah managed to cool off 😂
Can’t you install solar power to cut your
Grid bills
@@AmeliaBolger Hi! Thanks so much for your help, I’ll definitely get different quotes starting from these two. Thanks again!
How much do you think the property prices will fall .
Excellent ! its always good to know how our own costs compare. like for like I'd say were within 5% For me though it's got to be Hollands pies :-)
thanks nice to know all that information
Great information again. Many thanks!
Greetings! Just a couple of questions: do you generate any of your own power e.g. solar and is there an infrastructure yet for electric vehicles? Also can you give an indication of the cost of Spanish language lessons? Great video as always.
How much is housing rent and how much would u need to purchase a property
Where do you get t-shirts? They're very different. 👍
Thanks Sam, mine is from Benetton
Good information ladies. Had to laugh about not trying the cheap wine but you got your gin from Lidl!! Lol
It’s vodka and it’s 5 times distilled, very smooth. We get wines from Lidl too just not the 99c one 😉
Your healthcare insurance is very reasonable seeing as for both of you, the comvenio especial would cost 1440€ per year
Just one thing I wanted to mention and I don't mean to put a downer on it but sadly it's reality.....now the UK has left the EU the immigration criteria is that a of a third country national hence you need an income whether via work or a passive income of 4xIPREM which is generally mentioned...4xIPREM = 25,800€
Yes residency requirements have of course changed since we did it.
As you say, at the moment it’s pointless paying more for convenio especial when we get access to private healthcare at a cheaper cost. Will see how things go but we’re actually paying slightly less now than we were 2 years ago!
This video rocks. Thank you.
How much does Irn Bru cost?
More than a beer! 65 cents a can, I'm sure they probably do it in larger bottles too but can't be sure.
GSOH.😄
Very informative guys, personally I think we're being ripped off over here in the UK but hey-ho, swings & roundabouts.
So, can I pose a question? How is brexit going to effect people like yourselves who have chosen to up-sticks and live elsewhere? Do you envisage changes of any kind? Is information on such things open & transparent?
A bit late to the party here but does the health insurance also cover dental?
Hi Ladies, I may have missed it , but does your health insurance cover dental as well?
Great Vlog by the way - so useful.
I know this is irrelevant but I like the "Dog Shirt." Good job on the video - very informative.
Awesome I will have to move out there lil
You can forage for fruit and stuff on the island.
I used to on the costas.
Figs. Oranges,lemons,melons
I love a good forage
Hi girls
Very informative and interesting.
@@AmeliaBolger thank you amelia . We didnt get the villa as my husband was I'll. But we hope to get to fuerteventura this year 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Very helpful ! 👍
