And there is *no excuse* for our government to be as selfish and irresponsible as they are and not have social safety nets for the general public like other developed nations have and be very inhumane humans. Of all the alternative facts/lies/propaganda that the GOP likes to spread, the one most obvious to us is the lie that they are the only people in this country who matter. When the older, richer generation act like only they matter and the younger, richer generation does not, they can not hold that power for the rest of time unless the most selfish, power-hungry elitists know how to live forever just to make their tyranny endless; we should be thankful it has not gotten to that yet because I know they would try to live forever if they knew how to do that and stop aging.
The VeggieTale King George and the Ducky is an excellent reminder that when you run a kingdom or a country, you can not run it by selfishly dictating what everyone else does, and making it all about what you want all the time. I dare you to tell me how this nation would fall apart or how the world would end if the military industrial complex Raytheon & Boeing did not keep making profiting off of wars for eternity, or if any powerful people or businesses who got away with ripping people off or police brutality were finally held accountable. @@Puschit1 Our governors should not be allowed to get away with disobeying the constitution any longer! It was bad enough when they did not care about promoting the general welfare and treated rich people they gave the money to as immortals who would keep giving jobs forever instead of giving tax refunds to workers who actually deserve it, but it got worse now because they want to stop free and fair elections because they are that petty, and that hungry for absolute power to act as if having another Supreme Court Justice who knows better than them will be the end of this world. Barack Obama and I can hardly believe these grown-ups would be so immature about losing authority, since they act like petulant kids who change the rules to make the game easier for themselves. They need to grow up and learn to accept failure sometimes.
I do not know why the GOP is so afraid of losing Donald Trump, as if their whole likelihood depends on him becoming the 47th president of the United States, but I do know one thing for sure: If they believe in an alternate universe where Joe Biden's supporters committed voter fraud and Antifa was responsible for 1/6 instead of MAGA, they need to use their rich science to actually find that alternate reality instead of pretending this reality is like that other reality they wish they had. Do you have an answer for why the US revolves more around profit motive than any other developed nation? I think selfish politicians act like they are made of money simply just by caring more about money than people. February 5, 2022, 4:27pm

    • @Puschit1
      @Puschit1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@adampkalb Well, some of them will certainly believe their own lies but the vast majority of them still support Trump simply because at this point they a) would lose their job (see recent censure of Kinzinger and Cheney) b) would have to admit they made so many mistakes and c) might get into legal trouble. Trump himself HAS to become the next president simply to stop all the investigations and legal problems that are amounting. And that is also true for his inner circle. And this inner circle pressures their underlings and so on. It's like a gigantic mafia syndicate and it runs under "too big to fail" - and as long as they all cling to it, it might hold true. I mean, Trump just promised to pardon anybody that got indicted for the insurrection. So yeah - they need to win to erase their past, looming and future criminal records and to change laws in a way that their crimes become legal.
What astounds me is that so many americans are not able to see this. Those politicians and senators profit from these alternate realities but those folks that vote for them and support them don't - that tax cut for the rich should have been the wake up call. I am from germany and the last time that happened, the party responsible for it (the FDP) suffered heavy losses in the next election. How can the GOP pull that off unscathed? Gerrymandering alone can't explain that.
We already know that Trump & Company forged false election certificates and wanted to send fake electors - why are these people still free? How can their supporters still buy into the lie that the election was rigged by the other side? I mean, even their own biased sham auditors "CyberNinjas" results came out in favor of Biden.
Every country will have crooked politicians and greedy bastards trying to rip their citienzens off. But they can only pull that off this blatantly because more than 70 million (!) people believe everything they say.

Amazingly, even though they were extremely fashionable at the time, several of the leading founding fathers did not wear powdered wigs.
Jefferson wore his own natural hair plaited in a queue for a lot of his life,
    Washington powdered his own hair,
And Franklin (always a fascinating outlier who also knew how to charm) never wore them in the US, but did wear them when petitioning in London or dressing for formal occasions as Ambassador--
Though he also famously branded himself as ambassador in France by sometimes wearing a rustic fur cap instead (and the ladies loved him)

That Jefferson story is particularly funny because in Jefferson's time, it was considered suspicious, if not outright disqualifying, to actively seek the presidency. The founding fathers were terrified of "ambitious" men, men who sought power. That is why they did clandestine underhanded things like pay off journalists to write slanderous news stories, as VP Jefferson did against President John Adams. Jefferson NEVER EVER publicly sought out the presidency, and would have steered away from any public activity that might indicate he wanted the job, because it would have meant he was "ambitious" and thus dangerous. Presidential candidates didn't campaign actively until almost the 20th century.
In the election in question, Jefferson's rival, Hamilton, put up his candidate, Pinckney, against Jefferson and Adams, and Jefferson made the fix with Aaron Burr in which one of the Democratic-Republican Electors (called Republicans for short) was supposed to throw away his electoral vote to make Jefferson President and Burr VP, but no one did and the two men were tied, though of the same unofficial party. Burr refused to back down. Hamilton.. sent advice, after the votes kept deadlocking in the Electoral College, to the House (who got to decide based upon Article 2 of the Constitution) to vote for Jefferson, since Hamilton considered him a man of principles, even if the "wrong" ones, and he considered Aaron Burr to be a man of dangerous ambition. There was no popular vote, and it was the House of Representatives where VP Jefferson had no office that made him President.
Hamilton did not want a popular vote, because he was worried that too many Americans were too uneducated, or selfish or whatever and they might fall for the sweet promises of a demagogue, rather than vote for a man of reason and principle....
Jefferson meanwhile, just tried to shape public opinion through his pet journalists, but also, more "idealistically" by promoting education for the white men he considered the only fit people for voting rights and full citizenship.
(The book "Founding Brothers" is one of several excellent books that covers these shenanigans in the early Republic)

Bravo! Anyone worth their weight in political knowledge knows this. Sadly, most Americans do not know their own country's history yet all too often profess to "know the truth" (aka GOP pundits and Freedom Caucus politicians).

great history lesson! And how apt a description, near the end, of being wary of uneducated voters who might make unwise decisions; I see red caps waving in a sea of ignorance and idolatry; most among them claiming to be "Christian" while Christianity teaches that thou shalt have no idols before me, and that thou shalt NOT lie!

What should make you realize we haven't met aliens is the near impossibility of it - sure, I agree somewhere in the universe there has _been_ intelligent life - the HUGE problem is time. In the 13.8 BILLION years the universe has existed we've existed for less than 1 100th of a BILLION percent of that time - thousands if not literally billions of civilizations could have risen and died by now, the odds they would exist right now AND be able to cross the incredibly vast distances of the universe make us meeting aliens all but impossible.
Life on other planets in our solar system, sure - but microbial life. Show me evidence for intelligent aliens that have or can visit us and I'm TRILLED - until then it's silly speculation that the facts of reality all but rule out.

@@ross-carlson the problem with the math on extraterrestrial intelligence is. It's all speculation. We simply cannot know without at the very least sending probes to nearby solar systems. While the liklyhood of aliens being in current or recent contact with humans is very unlikely it is never zero.
