Minimal, atmospheric, moody, spacey, inventive, unique but most of all BRILLIANT. The Comsats are still my all time favourite band, by such a long way. Fellows is an extremely underated songwriter and lyricist, tons of their songs and his lyrics provide fantastic perspectives on relationships and the human condition. Why were they not Huge
Had the pleasure of meeting with their a few times after gigs. Wonderful humble guys who are so sadly underrated. Barely a day passes when I don't listen to the Comsats. The soundtrack to my life!
Yes I loved their unassuming modesty. At a gig in Islington in about 2008, someone shouted out "Steve you're a legend" to which Steve Fellows replied "More like a leg end". Humble to the end. Thanks Comsats special to this day
When I heard this track for the first time I was 17 years old - it was winter, nights were dark, clear and cold, my stomach aching with that longing for her - fond memories. Everything was so magical and timeless and eternal.
As an 80's kid, I first heard of this band from the 1985 movie "Real Genius" starring Val Kilmer. I wasn't able to find their music again until the internet really kicked off in the 2000's. Fast forward a bit, and my wife and I managed to get stuck in Montana for a few years, beautiful state, ugly people. On the night we finally escaped that meth-soaked hellhole once and for all, I played this song as we got to the highway going east out of Kalispell and over the Rockies.
@@PanekPL My wife was born in Ukraine, and Montana had the fastest spouse visa processing of any state in America, so we moved there. Once she got citizenship, we left.
The whole song was based around one bass note - except towards the end where he plays a higher note, and in doing so the whole dynamics of the song slips into another dimension. And in the middle of the song is what sounds like an alien spaceship coming into land. One of the most atmospheric songs ever recorded and based round two notes. The awesome Comsat Angels. No one like them before or since.
Shine A Light! The Comsats In a Polythene Bivouac singing sleep no more i gather the s/t is official polydor ver but so what the vis is stupendous thanks for this Comsat Angels 'Sleep no more' album buy it and you will play it for the rest of your born days guaranteed!
Saw these guys as a support act for U2 on the 1981 October tour - they were fantastic, U2 not so - but they went on to fame and fortune. Just shows you don't have to be great to be successful. Shame that the Comsats never got what they and their music deserved.
0:13 - What he heck is he rubbing on the neck of his guitar? A knife? A file? I'd think that'd break the strings after only 45 seconds, lest' he's got something like .014's on that Stratocaster of his.
Mad-Mike's "Creeping Net" Channel Looks like a knife to me! I was able to get this sound by playing a steel slide on the 12th fret of my Strat in standard EADGBE tuning, feeding that into a couple of digital delays, and then feeding that into a loop and adding a little chorus and flange for extra effect. I have no idea how Steve did it but I'm sure it was less complex than that.
Badass beyond words... Too bad they were lip-synching, but these U.K. program(me)s never allowed bands to actually play live in these kind of appearances
I'm okay with this band being a bit obscure. It's like a secret that a chosen few only know about. Maybe big success would have spoiled their sound/image. We that know about Comstat are the cool kids so lets keep this to ourselves.
I disagree. In-between, yes; but also instead of ... this, edited to go as one seven-to-eight-minute dysphoriafest. I used to have this entire album on loop ... was actually great for falling asleep to.

Good stuff ... uncannily brilliant band ...

Unjustly overlooked band. You can hear their influence however. Listen to Editors for instance

This band is way too good to be so damn obscure.

True that - I return to this track time and again for years now.
Makes me want to go out and play my Tele with a knife. Freaking brilliant band, freaking brilliant tune. And it never gets old, either.
My favourite too. Ist heard real story on John Peel's evening show. Hooked line and sinker. Minimalist perfection.
love the looped guitar
the 80s were all about image over substance so the world missed the comsat angels this was one of my fav albums played it to death very
I love this band so much.
classic, brilliant. Since its inception I have been returning to it ever since.

hello Simon ! have a great day for you !
The best!
wow what a treat, ruddy awesome band, it doesnt get much better!!!!!!
Bleak minimalism, Love it!!!!
I can remember that on the Belgian channel, long time :-)
they had the gift
Love it !!
The lip-synching makes it better as a true pop artifact. Brilliant in every resepect.
Pure awesomeness!
Pisses me off that they barely have a presence on Spotify! Given the importance they played on music and movie culture in the 80’s. Damn shame😤
Yes it’s so sad that the real music isn’t available just some poor out takes.
Glad I have the records and CDs
oh wow this is good.
Gliss guitar great stuff.
*He looks like 'Lou Diamond Phillips' (the guy who played Ritchie Valens in La Bamba)*
No, he looks like Anton Sigur from the movie No Country For Old Men. And you'd better be afraid, yes.

Maybe they didn't want to walk through door # 2 and U2 did
De los olvidados...
Waves of heat
i played this album to death saw them support u2 they were fantastic
if there are 3 bands i would name that diserved widespread acclaim Comsat angels , Fashion , fingerprintz
IMO, Fashion had only one decent song, 'Love Shadow'.
Saw them support U2 on the October tour. Sleep No More was a far better album. Another underrated gem...
I didn't know Justin Long's father had a band...

Nice, should be played right between katy perry and nikki minaj songs on the dial.

apart from the stupid tent ?

Plastic bagisms. This is where that 20 dollars I lent them went to!
Throw this garbage away!
oh wow this is good.
