Fiction was on my Walkman, driving a Mack truck on wheat harvest 1986 Texas to Montana. Sweet 21, another life: a hard life, but kind of romantic to look back on with fondness.
Such a beautiful song, so full of little details. Comsat Angels were Unique. A beautiful gem not many got to hear. I'm glad I stumbled onto their music. Thank you uploader, thank you Comsat Angels
Comsat Angels. I saw them mid eighties near Aachen. Just also listen "Be brave" and "Independance day". Same level are The Sound ad The Chamelions. They are the best. That's my opinion,
What an album Fiction was. After the rain, birdman and lots of other terrific songs. I think the singer's voice is large part of why I love Comsat Angels
The fact you are looking puts you a million points ahead of everybody else. Obscure or older bands that may not have kept around may have had just one wonderful track or an album full of different ideas. Around this era looking at the non famous Factory Records/Factory Belenlux bands may suit. The Names, Tunnelvision, Crispy Ambulance, Stockholm Monsters, Minny Pops, Section 25, Durutti Column - all worth a listen.
I’m Currently exploring all the post punk, college rock and underground music of the years 1982- 83. I’m finding so much I didn’t know about when I was growing up in the 80’s. Such a fantastic era for music.
agree 100%! I just recently discovered The Sound and Comsat Angels......I mean I've known about them but never really "got it" and didn't go back and listen to their back catalog.....but wow.....Comsats are brilliant......in 2020 still finding about bands I missed.....Railway Children, The Essence, Furniture, River Detectives, The Adventures, etc.....timeless music
I've heard this song for the first time after the death do a friend (i'd been her teacher some years before). He simply hang herself after the last carnival night (here in Brazil we call the post carnival day Ashes's Wednesday). Nobody knows the reason. She just wrote appologies to her brother and mother with a lipstick in the mirror. I was so sad, because i'd like to have met her before it. Maybe i could say something to make her feel better. Maybe i could save her anyway. I wrote her a song (in portuguese - i am brazilian) called Elegia. Then i was sitting in front of my home computer and this video simply appeared to me . This song is absurdly beautiful and strong. A real masterpeace.
Saw The Comsat Angels many moons ago, headlining at The Stonehouse in Nottingham ... and the 'support' act was (believe it or not) a fledgling U2 ... On THAT night ... the Comsats sounded astoundingly good ...
Very unique, "COMSAT ANGELS" f----n excellent, like many of the new wave music of the era. Bloody good to be able hear again. I'm re-livin my youth with it. This would piss over some of the commercial shit we hear on radio now.
With Songs like eye of the lens, total war, waiting for a miracle, our secret, pictures, baby, gone and so on the Comsats are head and shoulders better than Sound or chameleons..for me But both bands were also very great
I have a Comsat Angels question.. Was their single The eye of the Lens inspired by the book of the same name by Langdon Jones? Their name was taken from a J G Ballard story IIRC, kind of similar era and literary genre.
I enjoy knowing that the better bands are sometimes overlooked in the mainstream. It’s the very quality of the work that makes The Comsat Angels less popular than horrible muck like the thompson twins. They would have to appeal to those with bad taste to become popular & the only way to achieve that would be to sound like the thompson twins. Who wants that?
I love TT, but I put it into perspective. Early CSA are markedly better because they are more cerebral, but TT had their place in the more pop-arty scene. Plus, early TT was fantastic.
Comsat Angels never caught the eye of the big audiences because the were not into gimmicks and other things, the just wanted to perform. In the USA they couldn't perform under their name due to copyright on the name “Comsat”. So they slowly disappeared. In the Netherlands they were well known and popular, the album “Enz” was specially recorded for the Netherlands.
I loved the Comsats after hearing Sleep No More... I love Fiction too and the rest... there is an album for all moods. Check out Stephens new material at stephenfellows.bandcamp.com/
saw them in either 1979 or 1980? too many gigs and ale Comsats were from Sheffield, a good live band that should have done more! U2 were on the same bill , it was the first time I heard a U2 song, the were not bad live either.
gracias Mary por el post, eres de Peru? uno de mis maestros en esta musica es de Peru, ahora habita en Costa Rica, ponemos musica en un bar, en este estilo, no tan underground pero en esta linea... saludos...
For me, they never reached the heights that The Sound or Chameleons did, but I think Fellows was a better singer than the men who fronted the two groups mentioned. I wish they hadn't tried to go so commercial after Fiction.
I even like when they went commercial.. You Move Me, I'm Falling, great songs. Their middle-period and late-period albums are so hard to get hold of but definitely worth getting.
I like those songs, but feel like the other two bands had stronger songs than Comsat. It really depends on taste. I would like to retract my comment about The Comsat Angels never reaching the heights of the other two bands. The three bands had their own style, and I would say all deserve more attention. I still have an appreciation for Sleep No More that is gradually growing.
I think the drummer’s hairdo had a career in Greece and Turkey for a few years in the late 80’s, but yeah this band should have been way bigger than they were.
I love the comsats!❤❤❤❤ especially this album.
Top Track.
Amazing how many of their songs sound like they could be part of Film Soundtracks.
yes
Absolutely love this song. The Comsats deserved a way bigger audience.
Fiction was on my Walkman, driving a Mack truck on wheat harvest 1986 Texas to Montana.
Sweet 21, another life: a hard life, but kind of romantic to look back on with fondness.
One of the greatest songs ever written, such a vibe!
Sound track of my art school years. I have never stopped listening to them. I ripped the records at 96k 24 bit. They all sound so great.
I saw them 1981 in Bochum (Germany)
It was the best Gig in my life.
Stephen Fellows is such a brilliant Guitarist.
I love this song. So spatial, so deep, so hypnotic, so original... so 80´s... I love The Comsat Angels.
I Love 80s es hermosa
The greatest unknown band ever. But for those in the know they will always be Our Secret
@@chrisbarlow2131Unknown like CURVE in 90,s

One of my favorite bands. Sleep No More was epic. If they came out as a band today, the music critics would gush!
Comsat Angels. I saw them mid eighties near Aachen. Just also listen "Be brave" and "Independance day". Same level are The Sound ad The Chamelions. They are the best. That's my opinion,
I agree.
That’s a great top 3 of bands joe public largely don’t know. Very jealous you got to see the Comsats live!
@@Postpunk-cx1ph 👍
Arnhem, '83. Very nice sound. PA-crew were excellent.
Bochum 1981. Soooooo schön.
Mik was such a great drummer, he suited this band perfectly.
What an album Fiction was. After the rain, birdman and lots of other terrific songs. I think the singer's voice is large part of why I love Comsat Angels
Their best album
This is one of many lost greats by this amazing band from Sheffield 🇬🇧 !
You know what's amazing? Knowing a ton about music and still being blown away by older bands! I love that feeling.! It seems never ending.

@@AdjustableSquelch WOW Crispy Ambulance was me and my brothers all time fav great band name. And Durutti Column is a great artist.
Saw them for the second time in 1981, this time supporting U2. Needless to say U2’s bombast wasn’t up to much after the power of the Comsats!
Truly criminal that the Comsat Angels never really made it.
What? You have no idea

Much beautiful as it would be
I wish more of their music was on Spotify
He sounds so much like Colin Blunstone of the Zombies on this track. Beautiful delivery.
comsat angels are so insane fantastic

Used to follow these in the early 80`s, should have been massive, still got a few picture disc 12" and ep`s in my collection
Comsat Angels: spread the word!
beautifully crafted song from a great band
Saw The Comsat Angels many moons ago, headlining at The Stonehouse in Nottingham ... and the 'support' act was (believe it or not) a fledgling U2 ...
On THAT night ... the Comsats sounded astoundingly good ...
better than u2 actually!
Oh my gosh, this song is so awesome. x
Wonderful
Haven't heard this for ages. Great band.
Great walk-in music
This is a recording from VPRO's Götterdämmerung, broadcasted on Dutch television back in the eighties
+Koetoezov gracias por el dato.
And I watched it live, back then on our old tv. Good memories
great song
Awesomest band. Just listened to Steve Fellows new solo album last night "Slow Glass" Just wow.
Thanks for the tip. It's great that he's still creating.
It's amazing.
Great song, totally relevant rn, I haven't heard this for so long, it's giving me flashbacks... thanks!
Brilliant! - Sleep no More and Fiction were superb albums, great memories listening to one of the great bands of the 80s
Nice and simple..but so complex and moving.
Sounds like another great song 🎶
what a band! so underrated but still there, here......
Recorded this lot as a teenager on reel to reel and still love them very much - a very special crew
une chanson magnifique!Greatings!
the great song!
This song is really good.

Really well written song. Arrangement is awesome in this song even though so simple it sounds so good.
is what I like to be as simple and beautiful at the same time

I first heard them on the Polydor sampler "Made in Britain." Still a fan and I wish Stephen would join social media but he's a bit of a recluse.

memory returning!
also saw them in 1982 ...

New Wave in its finest form,Such an underrated band...it frustrates me that The Thompson Twins are far known than Comsat.

The sky will clear again, after the rain
So dark despite the words, unsetling nuke era piece of work
The Sky will clear again. What a song Another should have been hit. Polydor blew it with them.
Muy bueno
In the 80's I was dreaming of wearing shiny shirts and playing keyboard with one hand in the pocket....
Christophe, you can still do that! Only, for us males in our late-forties, 80s haircuts are not possible anymore ... :-)
