Life really wouldn't be the same without this album. Moment of Truth is one my all time top 3 tracks of any genre, any era. And one that has stayed with me constantly since the age of 11. Always felt like Guru was in the room teaching me and giving me life lessons haha. So appreciative of this series. A week doesn't go by when I think "can't wait for the next episode". Salute the floppy disk and the golden era! What a pillar of hip hop this man is. RIP Guru.
Same. I was a kid newly diagnosed with something, in the hospital, and Moment of Truth was on the video game soundtrack that my cousin got me to help like comfort me. That song meant so much at the time
Besides this version of "The Militia", the Pete Rock Remix of "The Militia" and "The Militia II" featuring WC & Rakim are also certified bangers from the late 90's era.
My favourite Hip Hop album of all time. Ive bought it at least 4 times now, always gotta have one on my shelf. The title track is the best of all time. Greatest track hands down. RIP Guru.
I went to a festival in Liverpool called Creamfields in 1999 and I got myself to the front of the large tent in which Gangstarr was about to perform. I asked the security if I could speak to DJ Premier and he kindly came over and spoke with me and give me a Gangstarr tour t-shirt. I will always remember his gesture. He is a good guy!
You are Hip Hop, a massive part of my childhood, my adolescence, my adult life, my now and present, as a parent. I will always push Gang Starr to everyone who wants to listen. I WILL ALWAYS SOLEMNLY SWEAR TO REPRESENT HIP HOP IN THE PUREST MOST RESPONSIBLE RESPECTFUL WAY. I owe it you Preemo 💚☘️👊🏻💯
Whattt! New episode!? New background? SO WASSUP!?! One of the most all time classic records, classic albums, OF ALL TIME!! Rest in Power Guru, my favorite emcee ever. Hands down.
Premo and Guru touched lives all around the world. I had the fortune to randomly bump into Guru at Bondi Beach of all places, and told him how much it meant to me. I cherish that memory. Rest in Peace and Premo - you are the MAN for so many beatmakers around the world.
Man! Shug's verse is just nothing but quotable lava! And of course, "even mechanics walk around with their tools" one the best records that has legacy to ever be created! Edit! Yes of course Bumpy Knucks! Spit that last line! One of the illest last lines in the history of hip hop! Hyped you're back in the mixxx with so whassup!
This! "Premier hit me with music to ensure that it thump right And my flight, will be taken solely at night 'Cause that's when the freaks come out, no doubt And in the dark hours is when I will shower With the knowledge of my trade to get paid Still I make moves like a snake in the grass, roundabout"
prem feels like family bro....can`t stop watching him talking for hours.....every song every scratch every word....makes my heart warm..bro....one love from berlin city
Finally back!...The Militia is one of my top 3 Premier beats along with NY State of Mind and Kick in The Door. Freddie Foxx's verse was simply show stopping
This history lesson straight from the source is so incredibly valuable. Moment of Truth along with ATLeins are my 2 all time favorite albums that I hold very close! These episodes are greatly appreciated 🙏
We were in The Astoria, 1999 (Gang Starr + Big Shug + Freddie Foxx + Afu-Ra). I remember when Premier dropped "The Militia" . The whole venue energised and started trying to touch the ceiling. Absolutely, some of the best 4:48 minutes of my whole life. I also remember the white guy (with dreadlocks) passed out at the back of the club on the floor with a big smile on his face. Amazing performances all night and the most incredible crowd I've ever been a part of.
Will never forget how I felt when I first listened to « Moment of Truth » … Couldn’t believe how good it was sonically. No skip. Feeling of wellness going through my whole body. Goosebumps. Perfection. 💯
I don't think I rinsed and rinced a Hip Hop album as much a s I did with Moment of truth? Goosebumps still anytime i hear those classics. PREMIER & GURU FOREVER GANGSTARR 🎤🎧🎧🎛🎚🎙💯
"The Moment Of Truth" is such an important album to me. It came out at the perfect time when I needed it most. Difficult to listen to the title track without a few tears. GANG STARR being my favorite of all time since 1989 to keep releasing albums at the perfect time was un imaginable but thats exactly what they did. I wanted to be like Premier as a producer and Guru was like a big brother or uncle that I admired and looked up to, who spoke to be through songs. Those albums saved my life and provided a soundtrack for me and many generations.
I am so glad to see this series back again. Literally the best hip-hop related thing on youtube. I could listen Preemo tell stories all day long. Thank you Preem!
Bumpy knuckles - king of the Third verse baby. Finding out how he recorded his verse the way he did makes this track hit even harder. If that’s even possible
Finding the most random, obscure samples to pull together into one cohesive banger is what makes you a master Preem! That's why I've always love this song
I remember first hearing the Militia on the radio in the Bay Area during a DJ mic session back in ‘98 - I remember that beat going hard on mixes - then when I picked up Moment of Truth & heard the full song I was thinkin man this shit slaps hard - still recite all the lyrics when I bump this track - “if Feds only knew how I felt about the rap game, they relocate and change their f’in name” y’all know what it is! R.I.P. GURU
I remember when this video dropped, I was floored. It's still one if my favorite songs all time. Also introduced me to Big Shug, and Freddie Foxxx. For that, I am thankful.
Premoo is the greatest person in the world including GURU Rest in peace! My biggest motiviation ever!!! Nobody will ever repeat what Premoo and GURU did!! Rest In Peace GURU!! Legends Never Die!! Gang Starr forever!! Gang Starr for life!!
I remember i bought this album the first day it came out. This was my first Gangstarr album. It was a tuesday evening…i was in the 10th grade…and on the first listen I knew it was a classic
During that 4 year break in between Gangstarr albums…Guru did the Jazzamatazz albums Volumes 1,2 & 3. Premo got busy producing the Group Home album Living Proof and Jeru Tha Damaja The Sun Rises in the East…along with producing hits for a variety of hip hop and R&B artists.

I just wish I can Chop it up with you and tell my Stories while BANGING these Joints. SALUTE!!!
Above the clouds is hands down one of the best tracks of all time imo.
Betrayal was that track. You'd really feel everything conveyed in it.

Bumpy Knuckles aka Freddie Foxxx blacked out on this joint!
"Gloria Gaynor on you muthafu**kas I will survive". Bumpy went in 🎤.
@focuz4899 ☝🏾 You already know! And to now know he was waving two glocks in the booth while spitting this verse makes complete sense!

I put down the knife, and take the bullets out my nine"
This album saved my life. More than once!! Certified classic….
Premo is the GOAT!!
"Before i slides i'mma leave you this jewel
Even mechanics walk around with their tools" one of the coldest lines ever🥶🥶🥶
Freddie Foxxx, from Flavor Unit to Gangstarr. He was cold with it
word...and still is.

The Glizzy’s makenso much sense in this story! You can actually see it bar for bar!
he was gonna kill it one way or another.
Dj Premier tells the best behind the scene stories. He remembers it like it happened 5 minutes ago. R.I. P. Guru, HQ & HQs MOM!
Freddie Foxxx verse is one of my all time favorites. 🔥
Who else can round this Freddie Foxxx verse?🤔 I'll wait!
Big shout to Bumpy Knuckles!!!

I can visualize Bumpy standing in the booth with a fur on and 2 glizocks out spitting that verse. That's ill!
damn nearly a year has passed since the last one. crazy.
Glad we're back 💾
Bumpy knuckles - king of the Third verse baby. Finding out how he recorded his verse the way he did makes this track hit even harder. If that’s even possible

This record is freaking insane. Shout out to Prem. This is my first time hearing it.
200K subscribers now! Nice. Should be 2M though!
FACTS! This man "DJ Premier" is a major influence on the music soundtrack of my life!
Channelling some RAMMELLZEE. In wild style he was pointing his loaded sawed off out at the crowd while rapping.
Finding the most random, obscure samples to pull together into one cohesive banger is what makes you a master Preem! That's why I've always love this song
Miss those times, when hip hop was dope! 💪
I've always thought that DJ Premier is the definition of real hip-hop!
Arguably one of your best tracks Preme.. RIP Guru 🌟
