This is a great movie. Both films are fantastic but this one is so much deeper. I really loved Brian Cox's Lecter. Amazing that this character has had two such great actors play him. Fiennes is so wonderful too...
Ralph Fiennes really did well with this movie role, way underrated movie if you ask me... he even got buffed up for it, what more could you ask for? lol
@@williamshaw9047 miscast? This is his best performance of his career? WTF?! That's the thing, the character isn't supposed to be physically hideous, it's in his mind. Ever heard of body dysmorphia? He goes around breaking every mirror around because he can't stand to look at himself. Ideas that have been planted in his head through years of mental and physical abuse at the hands of his grandmother. And mind you, there are actually moments in the movie where women actually admire his appearance, so it was never the point to cast a physically unattractive person in the role. You completely missed the point. Ralph hit a home run here and whoever cast him did as well. Amazing performance.
Andy Freeman yeah, Fiennes did a great job. When I first saw this movie, I thought Norton was miscast to be honest. Going back and watching it, I’ve changed my mind.
I was so ashamed of myself when I saw the movie, for like the third time. And figured out I was attracted to Fiennes. This was the first movie I saw with him. I was like "Omg, OMg, OMG!! I'm attracted to the killer, does this make me weird.?!?!"
I liked Dolarhyde in the book and then I liked him even more in the movie since Ralph was playing him... I'm just not sure that it's okay to like the killer in books..
You must to see it because is like playing shakespeare is an icon, and everybody who is a great actor can be able to make a good performance, just like a great actor Mads Mikkelsen. He is very brilliant as Hannibal, another side of the phico
@MizzNijna dear, it doesn't make you weird, if being attracted to Ralph as Amon is apparently normal (really, who wouldn't be attracted to Ralph?) then being attracted to Ralph as Dolarhyde is absolutely normal :D
i watched it twice ,i thought his performance was better than silence of the lambs but comes next to hannibal which i actually think was his best. well it's just a movie, everyone has his/her opinion .I personally do not care what critics say ,they try to twist and turn every detail to reach their own conclusion.
better acted than manhunter. a lush production, more money. plot/storyline vs character development. more subtle. Why people have and want to spread this dreaded disease of comparisonitis is appalling. judge it on it's owm merits.
I love the story, I love this movie, and I love Manhunter. They're different movies that were trying to achieve different styles and the actors had different conceptions of the characters they were playing. Cox's Lecter was more realistic, it came off like he had studied real serial killers, which made the character a completely different concept and scary in a completely different way. Hopkins went for a more over the top performance, but he completely nailed it. It's hard to think of an actor that became so inseparable from their character, the only one that easily comes to my mind is Ledger's joker. I slightly favor Peterson's Graham, his Graham seemed more tortured by his internal connection to killers.
Manhunter was OK, yet very dated. The acting in Red Dragon far exceeds Manhunter, but Manhunter had a subtle feeling to it that Red Dragon cannot recreate. Manhunter was only better in that way.
IMO, as good as Ed Norton is, I don't think he was right for this role.It needed to be an older actor, like ------------Ohhhhh like ! -----------GARY OLDMAN !!-----------& as good as Fiennes is ---------I would love to have seen Robin Williams -----------Philip Seymour Hoffman -----------Spacey-------perhaps even Jim Carrey ----------someone capable of being so incredibly twisted , & yet, able to appear harrmless-------regular-------" normal "-----------so9meone WORTHY of Lecter's interest. ---------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
I like Anthony Hopkins, but in Red Dragon he just seemed like a hammy actor, instead of digging into his character and letting us see his insides. He's was going solely for the campy comedy and thereby losing sight of what makes his evil persona so arresting.
Anthony hopkins in a bridge to far he copied from Tommy Cooper "alright" , in silence of the lambs he copied lawrence olivier ....still the man is class.
I have also watched it a couple of times and he comes across as campy and very hammy, playing his performance in this way we lose sight of his evil. His theatrical camp psychopath performance doesn't interest me at all.
@TheRandomvidstv Nah, Why would anyone want to make a remake of a perfectly good film and make one that doesn't have the same energy and pull? OK. I got it, it's the damn money -- stupid! People are so daft think Red Dragon was better than Manhunter that it's fucking hilarious, There were no psychological revelations in this Red Dragon, instead the filmmaker presents us with all the plotline facts in a dry manner.
5eurocups2005 go find the scene in Manhunter where will and the boy are in the grocery store walking up and down the aisles. You can see the kid look at the camera I don't know how many times, and every time they cut back and forth to the actors, they are standing in front of different shelves with different products. the whole movie looks like a Miami Vice video. yes, I know, Michael Mann directed it, and that's why it does
@MizzNijna dear, it doesn't make you weird, if being attracted to Ralph as Amon is apparently normal (really, who wouldn't be attracted to Ralph?) then being attracted to Ralph as Dolarhyde is absolutely normal :D

Fiennes was so amazing in this film. I keep watching it over again to see Fiennes performance.
Anthony Hopkins is undoubtedly one of the best actors ever .
I absolutely fall in love Fiennes in this movie. Gosh what a man💋💔
This is a great movie. Both films are fantastic but this one is so much deeper. I really loved Brian Cox's Lecter. Amazing that this character has had two such great actors play him. Fiennes is so wonderful too...

the analogy Hopkins gives about a hummingbird is something Hannibal would do. Hopkins is Hannibal Hannibal is Hopkins lol
Hopkins, Fiennes, Norton - what's not to like about this film?
I'm a big Fiennes fan, but he was miscast. It's hard to feel sympathy for someone like Ralph Fiennes feeling ugly just because of a harelip.
@@williamshaw9047 same

This movie is great and Finnes is BRILLIANT!
Fiennes **

The same thing happened to me😂

FRANCIS OG MY GOYDDA
This movie I bought DVD , the performances of actors of this film was very interesting it need podcast for hours

Anthony Hopkins is brilliant...one of my all time favorites!
Ralph is so deliciously HOT in this movie damn! who do u think is hoter Ralph or Ed?
NOOOOO STOP DONT AAY THAT FRANCIS SI NoT HOT
you know Anthony Hopkins is the best choice for hannibal lecter ,actually he is one of the best living actors ever ,no matter what his age is .
i wonder why Hannibal didn't go after Will Graham after he escaped?
he who shall not be named has hair and a nose in this film...
It's a shame they didn't make this and Hannibal much earlier. Perhaps in the mid 90's when Hopkins was younger
better acted than manhunter. a lush production, more money. plot/storyline vs character development. more subtle. Why people have and want to spread this dreaded disease of comparisonitis is appalling. judge it on it's owm merits.
William Petersen was much better than Edward😉
Great movie! Great cast! Norton...sexiest thing ever!

wooops, everyone is hott, ralph too, i published my comment too soon lol
The director reminds me of the bosses son from resoiver dogs or the jonah hill in wows
That damned Dr. Chilton.
Eh Ed's alright but Hannibal's hot as hell!!!!!XD Ralph too!!!!!
Oh yes...I don't know who turns me on more, Ralph or Ed...that's why I love this movie:))
and them, too, of course:P
Manhunter was OK, yet very dated. The acting in Red Dragon far exceeds Manhunter, but Manhunter had a subtle feeling to it that Red Dragon cannot recreate. Manhunter was only better in that way.
Love this shit but why repeat stuff from the first part?

Gary Oldman was Mason Verger in Hannibal.
I like Anthony Hopkins, but in Red Dragon he just seemed like a hammy actor, instead of digging into his character and letting us see his insides. He's was going solely for the campy comedy and thereby losing sight of what makes his evil persona so arresting.
oh god, so trueeeeeeee
He was so hammy in Red Dragon, did you actually buy into his Psychotic performance?
yea nobody can play Hannibal better than Anthony Hopkins thats why i dont think this new Hannibal tv show is going to be too good.
2:36 so true :)
@StylishVamp Yeah, you might want to see someone about that. He was playing a KILLER.
@Ariecael Amon Goeth can eat Hannibal alive !!!
Anthony hopkins in a bridge to far he copied from

ed does it for me! ;)
Hopkins was a bit too over the top in this one. He had some great one liners in Silence of the Lambs, but here he was just deliberately hamming it up.
@5eurocups2005 bullcrap that movie was such an 80s movie this was a much better film
@MuDvAyNw Brett Ratner spoiled the movie with his unrefined & average craftsmanship........
I prefer Manhunter
Brett Ratner what a momo
@chilomonkey1 Manhunter is better than Red Dragon in every single way
@MizzNijna dear, it doesn't make you weird, if being attracted to Ralph as Amon is apparently normal (really, who wouldn't be attracted to Ralph?) then being attracted to Ralph as Dolarhyde is absolutely normal :D
