    Lolz, what a funny video. ATTN serious buyers. If you are a GM performance enthusiast and you have waited for the next sport truck this is it. I drove an 5.3 2013 Tahoe for about 4 years. Once I got into my new 2018 RST there was no turning back. The power is magnificent, no more lagging up and down the hills. Tons of torque and HP. Do not waste your money on those brakes. They are not "bigger" they do not stop "quicker" the only thing they do is decrease brake fade, which unless you are on a race track you shouldn't worry about. The suspension is fantastic, but I already knew this because it's on my SS. That Borla exhaust is perfect for this truck. Subtle when you want it to be , loud and aggressive when you want. Zero drone sound at freeway cruising speeds. Now the interior, HOLY bejesus that is a 1000 percent better than my 2013. Tons of storage space, a great layout, more spacious and comfortable. Newer electronics. Seats are WAY better. The safety features are great, love the auto stop and lane assist. The wifi hot spot makes it easy for my to spend all day driving and working. I get decent mileage when I keep my foot out of it. 17 around town and about 22 on the highway. I love this truck and recommend it to everyone who asks. If you are wondering mine looks just like this one, except Tungsten Metallic, no sunroof, or DVD (who needs it with wifi?) and I have a black leather interior. Did I mention I got it all for under $70,000? Otherwise what a great video........

      An available brake package features massive front red Brembo six-piston, fixed aluminum calipers with brake pads clamping on larger-than-stock 410 x 32mm (16.1 inch x 1.3 inch) Duralife rotors coupled with a 84 percent increase in brake pad area and a 42 percent increase in rotor area to increase system thermal capacity. Duralife™ rotors feature a hardened surface to reduce corrosion and provide quieter braking with less vibration.

      Uh huh, that the line GM wants to feed you. In real world it's hardly needed. Since your sticking point seemed to be the price, I was offering alternatives to get that price down. If they really wanted some brakes I would hazard a guess something from the C7's could be made to work. Otherwise, in my opinion it's just a way for GM to get rid of some red Brembos they had laying around.

      Thanks for the thoughtful review of your ‘18. I’m getting ready to buy a ‘19 and it’s nice to hear what a “normal guy” says about the Tahoe. The 6.2L and 10 speed sealed the deal for me.

    • @SuperLyncher
      @SuperLyncher 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. The Trackhawk and the SRT8 are pushing 160 and 175 mph plus and cheaper. This Tahoe, knowing GM, cuts the fun off at 110, 120, just enough to sucker you in then screw you in the fun department. But hey! It has 12 speakers!

    This just doesn't make sense to me. More power is nice but the stiffer suspension is kind of ridiculous. Who is going to be corner carving in an SUV this big?

      You dont understand known history of Chevy then. They basically sold a police version of the Tahoe. If you look at the police version. It has a upgraded suspension to withstand more punishment. Higher speeds requires higher limits of grip.

    Steve, what kind of market does GM think is there for this product?

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      “Chevrolet has continually invested in Tahoe and Suburban, developing models with varying combinations of capability, technology and performance to meet the needs of different customers,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Truck Marketing director. “The RST is designed for customers who want a street performance look without sacrificing capability or refinement, along with the option of increased performance as well.”

      TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes Interesting, sometimes I wonder if GM makes the wrong gambles with its car decisions. This looks like one of those wrong gambles. IMO this will not only sell slowly but will struggle to find any premium price in the used car market in 3 years or so.

    Chevy will not sucker me into giving them $80,000 for this. The 2010-12 Escalades had 430 stock coming from them, and its no different from this. Add Borla exhaust, and all the extras, and i can get a better deal with an older Cherokee SRT8, Trailblazer SS, Trackhawk, even an old school 454 SS pickup with better power and handling than this. Plus, its so high in the air you'll get a nosebleed and cornering is like having a steering wheel in the living room of your condo. I'm going for the others. And where's the Escalade V Series we keep hearing about?

    Great video but it's a common misconception among car reviewers to say that this is the first time that GM has put the large 6.2L in the Chevy Tahoe. In 2009 only, Chevrolet actually put the 6.2L in the Tahoe. I'm guessing it was limited production and not everyone knew about it.

    Sat in one today. Very nice.. typically big Chevy.. super nice. But $80grand. I would take the Toyota Land Cruiser my self and see the value retained much much longer. In 15 years this thing will be worth zilch and the Toyota will still bring a pretty penny all day.

    Great review Steve. How does the Bose sound system perform?

    • @hoderharris
      @hoderharris 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gray S
      I have a top of the line 2015 Buick LaCrosse with the upgrade 11 speaker center point Bose system which I imagine is the same as in this truck since it’s a GM and GM has their sound contract with Bose.
      I am not overly impressed with my sound system. It’s pretty typical Bose which means that it’s very balanced in treble and bass but that also means it’s sound is very vanilla.
      I can certainly crank it up load without sound sound distortion but it’s not very exciting. It’s Workman like, gets the job done but leaves little in way of sounds fireworks. Mine also has the subwoofer that came with the upgraded sound system.
      When I saw that Bose was in this truck I chuckled a little as I am willing to bet that the people buying this type of product will want something that is not based in warm balanced sounds but something that highlights treble and base notes. I suspect however that GMs contract with Bose means that putting another sound system in the vehicle was not an option.

      @stevehammes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This has the 10-speaker unit. Not terribly impressed. Especially because I have a CT6 with the 34-speaker Bose.

      TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
      Steve what year is your CT6? I bought my LaCrosse used from a dealership who could not sell it and was on lot for 3 years with 14000 Miles on it.Its the premium 2 with everything and I love it. Grew tired of the ride from SUVs. I live in DC and driving this car is counter cultural in this area as people drive Audi,BMW etc.
      I am really impressed with the CT6 and honestly believe it is simply one of the nicest cars on the road today. I like to think my 2015 is a reflection of the CT6 in some small way. My Lacrosse is the best car I ever owned. Curious if you feel same way about the CT6

    that cabin looks very small and cramped..you would think with a large suv there would be tons of room...i remember sitting in one of these back in the late 90s or early 2000s and my head touched the ceiling, i couldnt even sit up, and i`m only 6`3...doesnt look as though the cabin is getting larger and yet costing more each year

      Ray King the Tahoe actually needed some stiffened suspension. It was terrible at handling and overall road comfort before. Top heavy, short length and soft suspension make it very poor at any fast speeds. Test drove a 2017 LT Tahoe and went with a Durango instead, Tahoe felt like junk

    This RST vehicle is nothing more than an appearance package, aside the engine. GM just took the Escalade's V8, put it in the Tahoe, and made the outside a bit sporty looking. Where are the RST badges if it's such a special model that GM decided to have in a press fleet? This should be the Tahoe RS, not RST. That's not to say I don't like it, but I feel Chevrolet needs to redo their SS, RS, RST naming scheme.

      I test drove the Jeep SRT then on the same day test drove the Tahoe RST (I've owned Tahoe's for over 20 years, love them and still have one) I went right back to the Jeep dealer the next day, took the SRT for another drive and ordered a Trackhawk. Until then, that was the only 2 times I've ever driven a Jeep. I've had the TH now since mid Feb and LOVE it. The Tahoe was nice, but going up to 420HP really didn't feel like much of an upgrade from 355. If the Tahoe was lets say 525HP, I would consider it. But the Trackhawk is sssooooo much fun to drive.

    It's still a very slow, over priced turd. The standard Durango R/T is still far superior at handling and ride comfort. Grab a SRT Dango and that's world's ahead of the Tahoe. Wanted a 2017 Tahoe, test drove one and found it very slow, unresponsive, bouncy front to back on industrial park roads, it just feels like you can't go fast in it. My family went with a Durango R/T instead, way more bang for your buck. Handling and throttle response on the Dodge is a huge difference.

    This review was a little to harsh int the criticism for my taste. Listen man. I tell people all the time and in respect to you and your channel(which I am subscribed too), I will say this. The price is not a shocker and its time we stop acting so OMG when we hear oh its closer to an hundred grand. One the competition cost just as much if not more than the TAHOE RST. So its not like the truck is the only one making this kind of cost., With the upgraded interior and technology and performance these new SUV'S make. Expect the price for them to keep climbing. Yes 80,000 dollars is not a low sum of money, But all competitors are right in line with the cost. And if American cars are going to catch and match the foreign makers. We got to ante up the money. Can not expect the American or domestic brands to be better while paying thousands of dollars less than the other guys charge for the same kind of drive. This is just the times we live in and I personally love that CHEVY is finally trying their hand in the crazy makes no sense niche market for automobiles. Do not let FORD and CHRYSLER have all the fun. It is a good solid truck and not too far out there which I wish they went balls out on the thing.,. But alas. Ill settle for this. But thats all man just lets not nag about price points anymore when all SUV'S TODAY including the expedition are six figures fully loaded. And thats not including dealership markup

      Than you know what they should do to win this? Either bring back the 454 SS, or even spend money to make a sinister looking car like the SS products of old. This looks like something a soccer mom will enjoy. I need blacked out everything. Take some of the budget they use to enhance the Vette and the Camaro and apply it to this truck and the SS sedan or bring back the Impala SS brand but rear wheel drive this time. If Chevy wants my money they need to develop something that will make me want to drive it like i stole it
