I entered the world of crafting when I saw a video by Gabriel Pollaco Mixed Media Canvas 10 years ago and never turned back ! Thank you for the video

Lol...Gabriella Pollacco was the artist who first opened my eyes to the beauty of mixed media. She made some absolutely stunning canvases that really enticed me to stick my toe into the water so to speak. I'm a lot like Jen...needing a semblance of control...but I'm getting there bit by bit.

Art is the joy of play. Mixed media has always been my favourite because you can literally play with anything, anyway you want! When it doesn’t work out you have new collage fodder or interesting paper to die cut from 😊

Wow! I can't believe how uncomfortable I was when I started watching a mixed media approach! LOL. I nearly stopped watching, because this was way out of my comfort zone, but I'm SO glad I stuck with it. I'm one of those that has to ensure everything is properly lined up, matches, etc. I have so many 'a ha!' moments when watching you. You are truly talented and are so inspiring to those of us who strive to be.

It's interesting to me what people find intimidating. I have always been a messy crafter, so I find mixed media appealing because I don't have to be perfect! However, when it comes to stamping, I hate it when it doesn't come out crisp, and when I discovered dies, I was in love! So maybe die cuts bring a perfect balance to the "chaos" of my backgrounds! I am also a fan of mixing different brands and products, and I love your idea of mixing lunar paste with mica sprays! Thank you for your continued inspiration, Jennifer!

Oh dear Jennifer, you make all the techniques look so easy, but my mixed media never looks worthy of a card background. I'm a seasoned crafter for at least 40 yrs, but my stuff doesn't even look close to what you make. 6th times a charm; I think I conquered the paste!

  • @LynBell

When I saw the first background results I imagined that an embossing folder with a wood look would be good. Thanks for the explanation of mixed media I always thought it was a bit intimidating. Lovely cards. I love the way you put the background over the die cuts that have wet glue...looks easier than what I've been trying to do!

My favorite mixed media artist Vicki Papaioannou shows a simple recipe for creating with inky/painty backgrounds and die cuts that is quite similar to what you showed here. It feels a lot more doable to see the gradual additions of layers. I often don’t know what to use with my inky backgrounds but I love your bold white die cuts and sentiments.

I've been making cards for decades but just did my own thing and really didn't keep up with new techniques or products except what I found haunting craft and hobby stores and occasionally googling a product I didn't know existed but knew what effect I wanted. After the pandemic hit and I retired, I had lots of time to explore and found Tim Holtz, TH-cam and Instagram. I'd been doing mixed media all along and didn't realize what I was doing was mixed media. I just wanted certain things in my cards and went ahead and did it. I did spend quite a bit of money though updating the products I use and finding some new brands and designers but I have so much more time to craft on a daily basis now.

Hi Jennifer. I, like you, am just dipping my toes in mixed media and find that I’m really enjoying it. I also have trouble with “lack of control” and allowing things to just go the way they want to. I’ve a bit of OCD I guess and do like things in a certain order. It’s hard to let go but I’m really trying. Thanks for your video and the cards turned out great!

I gave away my sprays and texture pastes about a year ago because of a carpet stain I made. I was afraid my granddaughter would spill them while I was at work because my husband unlocks the craft room door and lets her make a mess. It was simply easier to give them to teens that would use them. I do use neocolor 2 crayons once in a while to get a different look once in a while. For the most part, I use patterned paper for backgrounds and I'm happy. Your cards are gorgeous as usual. Thanks for all the ideas and techniques.

Love love your cards! It's funny I just joined the Hero Arts Mixed Media group and today I was checking out Lunar Paste. When I think about it using the words mixed media I think how should I do that. When in reality I do mixed media without even thinking to much about it. I just put together a planner page that has several different things on it. Maybe sometimes we think mixed media has to be heavy duty with a lot of things and it really doesn't have to be that. Thanks so much for showing your version and making some great cards.

L'ajout de texte et l'utilisation du sanding block sont parfaits. Vos quatre cartes sont très jolies. Merci. I find the backgrounds very beautiful, they make me think of shimmering silk.
