Thanks! Swamp ash body and red rosewood top. The neck in the other videos is maple with an ebony fretboard. 👍

The figuring in that top is stunning. I absolutely love how you do your GGBO videos. I binged the entire Doctor Who series a month ago.

That's what I love about his GGBO builds. The guitars are great, but it's his storytelling that makes the videos extraordinary!

Great build. Can I please ask what tool are you using at 10:58 for lining up the neck and body? Also, I love how the veneer adds sharp lines … well done!
Thanks! It’s a construction lazer level from Bunnings. I use it to double check once I’ve lined the neck up using the straight edges on the side of the neck.

Thanks! It was from Australian luthier supplies. About $45 AUD for the three pieces. I was worried about joint lines, but the method I used worked perfectly.

I came to the comments section to ask exactly the same question. I looked for black veneer and couldn't find it anywhere in Melbourne. Problem with Australian Luthier Supplies is they are crazy expensive. Take stewmac prices, convert to Australian dollars then multiply by 2 (or 3).
Looks great though.
They are more expensive generally. It was going to cost even more to get the veneer from overseas. I’ve got some offcuts left for future projects, but it would be good to find a cheaper supplier for it.

Love the idea of cutting the body wide and putting locating pins in that soon to be waste area. Smart
It was the best way to save as much of the top offcuts as possible. It worked well!

Only half way through this... and loving that top. Perfect "volcanic" look. Definitely a look into Sammath Naur!
What i really like about this build is the thought that has gone into it, all the "minor" details that fit with the theme, the 7 rings on the 6 string headstock, the neck inlays, etc. Always fun to contrast with Ben Crowe's "make it up as you go along approach"!
Looking forward to the rest of this series... it is going to be a stunningly beautiful instrument.
I'm sure all of us watching would just LOVE to have this in their hands when it's finished.
PS as another afterthought, was that the fabled Radian 4 flute bit in the table router? Looks to have given a beautifully clean route with no burning at all!
Sorry, one final observation (for now!) this series is an object lesson in "show, not tell" Just all the interesting details without commentary. Noticed the tape inside the neck pocket template trick to make the neck pocket just a tiny bit smaller than the neck heel.
Thanks for all you comments Tim. It’s cool when people notice all the fine details in the guitar and videos. It is a radian router bit, but the 2 flute (pretty sure, I’ll check when I’m in the shed next!). It’s definitely worth paying extra for quality router bits.

He wanted the strand to press into a jewel, which would capture the beauty of Lothlorian but Galadrial saw the pride and lust for power in the heart of Feanor. Three times he asked; three times she refused. It puts a different understanding to the gift for Gimli, eh?
