This was such a surprise. You've taken vegan chili to the next level! I've never made it like this. Definitely giving it a try! And I can already see that chili powder making its permanent space in the pantry, just like the chili oil.

Update!! To anybody reading these comments, I’ve only made 2 of his recipes and both were excellent! This one was a bit of work, but it’s incredibly good! I’ve never had a tofu recipe that I found edible, but this one is stellar. Highly recommend making this!! ⭐️ I’m making this now with a couple of substitutions, but it should be very similar. Can’t wait to try it! I’m not a vegetarian, but I’ll try any vegan recipe that sounds intriguing. My chili oil is macadamia but & I’m adding chipotle peppers in adobo sauce because I had it in the freezer & only had 3 dried chili peppers. Also, a fresh Serrano pepper. I do like it hot 🥵 😋
I made this chili. It is delicious. I have to travel to Texas where they take chili very seriously. There are a few vegetarians in the group and I was elected to come up with a veggie friendly chili for chili night, the Friday after Thanksgiving. I think this recipe wins! The chips, lime, avocado and cilantro are a nice light note. Thanks Will.
I would love this over rice. Looks delicious and pretty sure, it tastes amazing. I love these meatless recipes even though I'm not vegan. Really nice alternative especially for dinner parties. Everyone's happy!
I have watched this about 5 times back to back. You transformed those ingredients into that delicious-looking hearty chili like a magician! I can't wait to try this!
I learned by accident when a roommate put my tofu in the freezer that it gave it a meaty texture for better tasting dishes. I put it on a plate and freeze until solid. Then l thaw it completely and squeeze all the liquid out. I dice or shred it to get the size and texture l want. Firm or extra firm works best.
Nice disclaimer at the chart to fend off the chilli officionados. I make a similar vegetarian one. 100% agree on cooking the tofu with the soy sauce at the start, makes a huge difference. I also recommend adding a tablespoon of chocolate powder after the tomatoes to give it a richer colour and a glossy finish.
Tried this recipe without the special chili powder, wine & chocolate. Good, but just okay. Today, I made it as written, with the special chili powder, wine & chocolate!! What a flavorful difference!! Worth the longer trip to a special grocer for the peppers 🌶!! 💗💗💗
I have been making a Black Bean Chilli for years which has morphed from a recipe in a White Water cook book. Your twists that you present in your chilli really intrigue me. I will have to hunt those dried peppers and give it a try..
Love the recipe... a few substitutions/additions to consider... 1. Use fresh tomatoes instead of canned, and smoke them, if you can, or fire roast them if not, or oven roast them if you can't smoke or fire roast them. Major improvement over canned!! 2. Fire roast or roast red bell peppers to puree and add to the sauce. 3. Sub sundried tomatoes for tomato paste. 4. Add chopped pecans- adds so much to both the texture and the flavor. Love your channel!!

quick question on the chili oil: when I make it I stir the strained avocado oil into the jar and stir well - I let it mingle overnight and then use. do you strain into another jar after letting it blend overnight of just leave it all in the original jar?
You could do either 👨🏻🍳🙌🏻 Sometime I store it strained and other times I’ll leave it. Depends on your personal preferences (including spices in dish or not)
As a Cincinnati native, I appreciate you normalizing the addition of chocolate and cinnamon to a chili recipe. :-) I've made vegan versions of it before, but the red wine, chili oil, and lentils put a whole new spin on it. Will try this soon before the weather heats up!
Weird coincidence. I make chili with real Chipotle peppers for the first time 1 day before this video, and as I was eating leftovers, I see this video. I don't know about the lentils, I used beans, and added corn... and used Jackfruit for the "meat", with artichokes as well (had never tried). It was ok, but I'll try the crumbled tofu next time. I had also blended the peppers after boiling them, but toasting and powdering them seem more efficient.
This looks amazing!! Curious about the fire rating on this dish ie: how hot is this recipe's chillie from 1 (extremely mild) to 10 (extremely hot)? OmG the addition of the chocolate - this looks off the charts the supreme vegan chillie recipe I cannot wait to try this!!!
Great recipe. I’ve been doing something very similar and will try this. Rice wine vinegar adds a tang. Never tried chocolate or maple syrup. Thanks Wil.
This looks amazing, like nothing else I have ever tried. May need to make some adjustments, but am absolutely going to try it out. Thanks again for the inspiration.
I make vegetarian chili using tofu but I never thought to use it this way, it looks like ground up meat, I always cut mine into tiny cubes. Your recipe is very interesting, to the point I have to make it. Thank you for sharing.
I will be trying this, looks really good. What brand of extra firm tofu do you use? Everything by us is whiter and even the very firm stuff has a lot more moisture in it than what you are using. I see yours also has a slight yellowish tint to it.
Zthis sounds like it will be amazing but in writing out this recipe I have a question about the quantity of the tomato puree. You say to add an 8 ml can of tomato puree but the cans are labeled in ounces and grams. So how much tomato puree, please?
Hello Will. Love this recipe. Can you please talk more about the type or brand of Firm Tofu you use? I can never seem to find tofu as firm as yours. Also is it organic?
Fascinating to see you make your own chilli powder from those dried chillies. I see them all the time in my local Asian store but never know what to do with them. Just wondering why you didn't use any beans in your chilli? I've never seen chilli without some kind of beans in it.
Hi Wil, and thanks for another great recipe. I would love to make you chili oil. Where I live, I can get anything but the Korean chili flakes. The closest (?) I come is Kashmiri chili powder. Do you happen to know that and do you think it would work as well?

Zthis sounds like it will be amazing but in writing out this recipe I have a question about the quantity of the tomato puree. You say to add an 8 ml can of tomato puree but the cans are labeled in ounces and grams. So how much tomato puree, please?
Hello Will. Love this recipe. Can you please talk more about the type or brand of Firm Tofu you use? I can never seem to find tofu as firm as yours. Also is it organic?
This one is from Soyganic and they do carry an organic line 🙌🏻
@@YEUNGMANCOOKING Thank you!
Ciao, ho preparato questa squisita ricetta ieri ,super buonissima. Grazie
Fascinating to see you make your own chilli powder from those dried chillies. I see them all the time in my local Asian store but never know what to do with them.
Just wondering why you didn't use any beans in your chilli? I've never seen chilli without some kind of beans in it.
Personal preference 👨🏻🍳🙌🏻 All good to sub out for the variety of beans on hand.
I can’t wait to make this on Wednesday and or on meatless Fridays. Thank you so much. I will check it out on your fabulous cook book that I purchased.
🥳🥳🥳
I will definitely try this recipe out. Todah

Hi Wil, and thanks for another great recipe. I would love to make you chili oil. Where I live, I can get anything but the Korean chili flakes. The closest (?) I come is Kashmiri chili powder. Do you happen to know that and do you think it would work as well?
