    Leaving our camp in the Chattahoochee National Forest, Georgia. We head to the Oconee National Forest and find a camp at the Oconee River Campground. It was a nice place to relax and do some research and planning for our continued route into Florida. I also talk about the possibility of switching to a different full time travel vehicle.
    *My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
    Thanks for watching!

    Hey Brian, We have a couple acres you can stay at free of charge while you make your van swap. We have some amenities. Electric, outhouse, water brought in, but clean. It's near Kissimmiee Prairie State Preserve. You will absolutely love it. At last count, over 80 oaks on our 2.5 acres. Amazing sunsets and stars at night. Remote but safe, and I'm back and forth into town and would like to extent a hand. It's about 40 minutes to town. I've watched enough of your stuff over the last couple of years. I'm retired and am glad to help if I can. Also, I would love to meet you. We have a lot of shared interests. Our camp welcome mat is always out for you brother.

    With regard to changing platform my first thought on the box van is that it won't be suitable for some of the boondocking you do... but then you know that better than I do. I've seen some very impressive box van conversions, so I appreciate having a bit more space is appealing after five years in a van... you need a bigger bed... I look forward to watching this process unfold. Thanks for sharing your life with us Brian.

    Brian, you have to try it or you'll always wish you did.
    I sold my van & bought a bus. I liked the bus for the room & rugged reliability of it. However, I was never able to get past the simple convenience of a van.
    I just sold the bus to a friend of mine and now have a van again.
    But, go for it. Experience it. You may find you like it.
    Without question, the bus was a very reliable beast that would scoff at anything I threw at it in weight or terrain. It is a slower mode of travel and different.

    I think used vehicles introduce a lot of uncertainty, inherent problems, extra costs and frustration. I see it time and time again. Buy new and know exactly what you're getting into. My 2017 GMC Savana 2500 has worked flawlessly and I built it out to my exact specifications. Seems like a lot of vanners are going the new MB 4X4 Sprinter route; I think you should too; it would almost eliminate dependability issues - and you would have a blank canvas to build on and piece of mind. You provide a lot of people great insights to van travels and they would contribute. What every you choose, good luck, god speed, and safe travels. Peace!!!

    After extremely extensive research, we have determined that the ultimate adventure van (with all things considered) is a used Chevy chassis Roadtrek 190 Popular 4x4. Absolutely kills it in all respects regarding usability, comfort, storage, durability, ease of maintaining, and reliability. If there was a better van, then I would have bought it. This van has given us virtually no problems in 13 years. Well, actually I did remove the macerator system and converted it to gravity emptying which was super easy to do. As always, we enjoy your videos. Hope we cross paths again sometime soon.

      Hey Brian, I've been watching and subscribed- giving thumbs up to all your vids. Currently I camp in my 2005 Chevy 1500 All Wheel Drive (full size) Van. I found a loooong Box Van in Milwaukee, make sure you get an all aluminum and not the FRP fiberglass reinforced plywood box van. Huge difference in weight, and most of the older FRPs are swollen with moisture from their design.

    • @VanLifeByTheRiver
      @VanLifeByTheRiver 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seanoleary1979 yes, 4x4’s are rare but they are out there. Our van can take a beating without any issues. Once you get it back on the highway, it drives smooth as glass. It does amazingly well in slippery surfaces. Cuts through snow like butter. Roadtreks under 20K would be difficult to find but double that would get someone a Roadtrek that would last a long time. The design inside changed very little year over year. Our 2007’s interior is almost identical to a 2018 interior so buying an older RT will have the same look and feel of a recent year model.

    • @cheryljohnston7095

      I had a Roadtrek 190 Popular on a Dodge chassis. Loved everything about it except how it handled. Everything would seem to be just fine and then suddenly it felt like I was leaving the road. Almost like I was on ice. Add wind or semi trucks passing and it was white knuckle.

    • @VanLifeByTheRiver
      @VanLifeByTheRiver 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cheryljohnston7095 I had heard of handling problems of the Dodge chassis back in the day. The Chevy chassis handling is rock solid in wind and wet conditions. The thing glides down the highway very smooth. The only fault I can find for the Chevy chassis is the factory brake rotors heat up quickly if you don’t conserve brake energy. Heavy duty rotor replacement fixed that on my previous Roadtrek. I still have the factory rotors on my current one.
