I had earlier replied to you and I just now discovered that my reply never was sent though. So, in a nut shell so to speak, the larger bottom cage grill that I had ordered on a couple of my layers really did not make much of result for better ease of poop dropping in the Hatching Time Cages. At least this is what I have experienced with my birds. 2 of my layers are the normal bottom grill for both the Jumbo Quail as well as the normal non jumbo Pearl Quail that I have. Both kinds of birds really showed nothing major in helping the poop to drop any easier than the larger Chicken bottom grill that I ordered last year in hopes of easier flow of poop. With the larger grill and smaller grill for the bottoms of the cages, it is almost the same ease of droppings. Also with the larger as well as the smaller grills, I still found that some of the poops just had to be pushed thru the grills. These birds can really poop. Overall, the basic quail bottom grills are adequate for both the Jumbo and non Jumbo birds. I also do not have grow out cages. They are not necessary. Once my birds are 3 weeks old or older, they go right to the egg roll out cages. The larger bottom grill should not have the baby birds escape thru the bottom. At least I have never had this as an issue. I’m thinking, for either Jumbo or non Jumbo, the basic bottom grill in my opinion is great and allows overall the bulk of poops to drop thru. I will be ordering this week or next week the 2 Layer cages for the expansion of our flock. We sell eggs to the local markets in our area and we never can keep up with suppling enough eggs in those stores. That’s a good thing. Hopefully with this new hatching we just did, we will get several more hens. Ill know in 3 weeks as these birds are feather sexable. Thanks for the questions and I hope this helps! 😄 Wayne

Hey Tim, you too. Since lock down yesterday, the temp for the humidifier was set for 75. At least that is what I have tried to get too on all the previous incubations at lockdown. But it seemed like it was taking forever to get to even 70. Thus I added some water at the other end of the unit. Now I am approaching near 75. Everyone has different options as to the final lockdown humidifying temperature. I think as long as one is close to 70 or in the 70s at this stage, this is great. Other people say never higher than 65. I guess what ever works well for each of us.

For lack of a better word, this quail research is quite the "rabbit hole" LOL. Enjoying your informative videos on the quail though. I've spent countless hours researching cage options, brooders, and incubators. Also started work on an outdoor coop that is 2 feet by 6 feet to house some quail. Im thinking about going with bob whites ; either northern bob whites (adults around 8 oz) or Wisconson Jumbos which get up to 12-14 oz. I also may do some Jumbo coturnix quail. With that in mind, what Hatching time cage set ups would you recommend,; the quail size or the partridge sizes? I found a 5 tier set on craigslist for 475 which seemed like a pretty good deal, but not sure exactly which cages they are yet. Sent an email to them for more info. Thanks and any advice is much appreciated.
