My 2013 specialized s works tarmac sl4 with SRAM RED. Size 56. I still think the perfect bike, super light, fast, fun. I did have to tape my tool to the seat post for a UCI hill climb
I can't believe you got through the lightweight segment without mentioning the grand-daddy of light/climbing frames, of weight-weenie stardom, the good old Scott Addict SL (in various iterations)...
What do you mean by grand daddy of light frames? Scott Addict weighs literally 10-30%+ more than most competition (including some of the bikes mentioned in this video). This episode was about lightest bikes, and Scott is nowhere near that.
Another Great GCN Tech Show 👍do think that it is getting to the point where lightweight could possibly become dangerous🤔I'm all for lightweight to enhance performance, but how far will this go. Thanks Mark 😁
I built a psycho climbing bike around an AX Lightness EVO Vial frameset with SRAM parts and little doo-dads like Gelu saddle, Schmolke seatpost and Lightweight wheels. Great for hilly gran fondos but definitely not an everyday ride...
A disc brake applies asymmetric forces to the frame because the force is applied to only one side versus rim brakes which are of course dead center of the frame. This requires more material in the frame to resist those forces, thus overall disc specific frames are heavier. Nerd alert!
Can't help but notice that the "Ollie" app link in the description seems to link to a post by Dan about gravel riding in the New Forest. Do I detect sabotage? As a broader point, there doesn't seem to be a way to search within the app to find individual users, so I have to rely on those links unless I happen to see a post by a presenter. Either I'm missing something in the iOS app, which is possible, or there's a real flaw in the whole idea of connecting with other members of the community. It's interesting how ALL of these frames bear an uncanny resemblance to the Cervelo R5ca and the Rca ... but NONE of them have the same BB stiffness ratio as the last Rca frame iteration ... I have both, the original R5ca (size:56 at 680 grams, and the last iteration, Rca (size 56: 660 grams) and they both ride like an absolute dream, as so many bikes do. ( but those "many, are not your "lightest" absolute dreams!)... worth every penny spent! These are lifetime keepers!
Is this because all disc bikes are heavier than our rim brake bikes from 10 years ago. No discs in a frame weight. Rim brake bikes with frame weight of over 1200g could still be built at or under 6.8 kg. Modern non uci rim brake bikes would be all sub 5kg. Making the aethos looking a bit fat.
Light Light Light ...But is the bike durable over a number of years? As a recreational rider I like light bikes, but my main concern is the longevity of the frame and fork. Plus I'm 210lbs and I fear that some of these frames could crack under me over time.
