    The phase reversal sounds on only one pickup were kinda useless because, to my understanding, the phase reversal switch flips the polarity of the pickups and only makes a difference to the sound when both pickups are engaged. It's basically the Peter Green mod.

    I really like the phase reversal in all positions. It almost sounds like you're playing through a wah when you play a solo lick. I never cared for splitting due to the pronounced volume drop.

      @@whatyoumakeofit6635 It pains me every time I look at that guitar. I even went so far as to paint my last name in the 12th fret. I figured if I want to play like Malmsteen, I need to have the ego as well. I do want to get the fretboard replaced. It was such a versatile guitar.

      We all went through that phase, I think. I traded a perfectly good Tele for a Peavey Tracer; which was a nice guitar but the hockey stick headstock is dated.

  • @Lagmire
    @Lagmire 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Phase reverse affects how the two pickups interact with each other and only affects the tone when you’ve got both selected...in theory. Unless my ears are deceiving me, it’s not affecting the tone with only neck or bridge selected, and if it does, that switch does something else than reversing the phase.

    I have this guitar, same colour. I bought it new, from a shop, who photographed it and eventually delivered it to me, once I had made my mind up to buy it.
    I couldn’t understand why it was called Dark Cherry, as it’s not what I would call it. However, on the photograph I was sent it looked almost blood orange and I wasn’t that impressed. I looked on line and still all this orange. However, I decided to buy it and having received it, I’m so pleased with the colour and the dark veins that run through it. It’s nothing like it photographs. It’s quite something else. It’s a fabulous guitar. The shop, Bonners of Eastbourne, did a proper set up for me f.o.c.

    I really like this guitar, this is the headstock all epi’s should have if they’re not gonna use the Gibson one. But I actually really liked the Gibson “Modern” model that flopped this kinda reminds me of that. Seems like a lot of value built into this guitar, and it is it’s own thing.

      @stankfanger1366 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Wilshire Phant-O-Matic is a hell of a piece of hardware you can still buy new, and they've redone the Coronet a few times. I still have the Wilshire (and an older model Pro), but I didn't care for the Coronet with the fake OBL's in it and traded it for an SG Pro.

    Id love to see a new version of the Epiphone SG:

  • @philippe_durel
    @philippe_durel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you reverse the phase on an "entire single pickup" (may that be a single coil or a humbucker) it doesn't change anything in the resulting sound.
    To get an "out-of-phase" type of sound you need to invert the phase of one pickup running together with another pickup, or, if you can, reverse the phase of just one coil on a humbucker pickup.

    I cant stand the lighter color of the Pau Ferro necks. My Explorer came with one when it was actually supposed to be rosewood. Well, that is something that is not true. It came when Epi was I assume in the process of no longer using the rosewood because of import laws but i was not aware of that at the time.
    I simply lightly sanded the neck and dyed it with ebony ink and it looks much better now since it is the Alpine White on the guitar.
    Dark necks just look better on white guitars. Other than that i own 4 Epiphone guitars and basses and love them all.

  • @keshin_martin

  • @leonelbarragan602
    @leonelbarragan602 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hunter, that Epi DC Pro is very unique and versatile! As always an entertaining and wholesome video. Do you find the Pau Ferro on the frets as warm as Rosewood? Since most guitars can't be build with Rosewood and better yet Ebony fretboards due to price points, what is your opinion?

    If you haven't checked it out already, I would be very interested in the EMG loaded Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul Custom. It's very similarly speced to this guitar, but with an ebony fretboard, EMG's, a translucent black flame maple veneer and all black hardware. It reminds me a bit of the Gibson Les Paul Custom that Matt Tuck from Bullet For My Valentine uses to warm up behind the scenes or as a last resort back up.

    Serious question. How neck heavy is this guitar? Trogly reviewed the DC Pro as well and he got a pretty bad one in terms of neck heaviness.

    • @misterknightowlandco
      @misterknightowlandco 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neck heaviness and neck dive on any guitar is a result of poor strap button placement and can be solved and button the strap buttons elsewhere on the guitar. Leaves a little in the back of the guitar which sucks but not a major deal.

    • @T00DEEPBLUE
      @T00DEEPBLUE 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@misterknightowlandco Exactly. Which is why I specifically asked Hunter the question.
      The thing is, the DC pro already has its strap buttons in the best positions for balance that it can possibly have. So if the guitar is still neck heavy despite the current strap button placement then that's an inherent design flaw on Epiphone's part.

    • @clamus68
      @clamus68 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@T00DEEPBLUE ideally the back strap button should be on the neck heel area, not the heel itself but in that vicinity on the body. Barring that get a wide strap?

    • @T00DEEPBLUE
      @T00DEEPBLUE 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clamus68 I disagree in the case of this guitar. The strap button should ideally be as far forwards of the guitar's body as possible. The further forwards it is, the less weight there will be to tip the headstock downwards. In this case the tip of the horn is further forwards of the body than the neck heel. So that's the best place it can possibly be.

    • @jansonpig
      @jansonpig 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have an epi Tak matsumoto DC Les Paul that has that same body shape. The body is quite abit lighter than a standard LP and that makes the neck seem heavier. If your strap tends to slip then neck dive can be an issue. But regardless that Tak DC is my favourite guitar to play standing up.
