So the weather been crazy lately and I wasn't able to film anything so I decided to upload an older video that I recorded on fathers day. This day was the very next weekend after I shot my Omilu (episode on my channel). Super killa day with my GirlFriend. Shot 2 Uhus.. The blue was the biggest Uhu I Caught.. Definitely a Fathers Day to remember. Anyways I hope y'all enjoy the video. Ill figure out what we can do and film for now while the weather and water is dirty. Hell ya that shallow water was good fun.. Trip me out how much action had right on the inside! Big difference from the westside lol.
And thanks I appreciate that.. I think I learned to have restraint by diving on the westside.. Once you shoot.. If you don't hit the fish.. then the fish is gone.. You'd have to leave the area for a while, come back and hope they'll be there. So its best to just be patient until you got a good shot on it.. 🤙🏼
Man, this fish is soooo good to eat. What I learned recently is that they are really beneficial to the reef. They specifically eat invasive algae that kills the reef. I thought the person telling me was just trying to make me feel bad about shooting such a beautiful fish. Look into it, I don’t know any other fish that eats the invasive algae off the reef other than Uhu. If anyone knows what other fish eats invasive algae, please comment because I would like to learn what not to shoot. I’m not trying to tell anyone what to do, but I think all of us that hunt uhu didn’t know this fish was primarily the fish that keeps the reef beautiful and healthy. I still think this a good video though , god knows I have my shot my share of uhu and fight the feeling of hunting them these days because I hate the invasive algae. I’m a daily free diver and spear fish too, Aloha 🤙🏽
Right on bro.. I appreciate you speaking your mind and informing me on what you've learned.. I don't like shooting too much Uhus because I've seen how they've decreased over a short amount of time.. But I had no idea they were beneficial to the reefs..

@@RoyceGetit Blue's have a harem of female reds so better to bang some reds instead of the blues if can. I shot my share of big blues but nowadays seen less so moved over to land hunting.
In terms of species preservation the blue males can be inseminating up to 200 females at a time. Watch them, the reds hanging closest to him are breeding and holding eggs. The ones off by themselves are either too young or have just laid their eggs. When you take the male out it stifles the population in that area for years. Maui County has regulated this species and doesn't allow people to shoot blues and the numbers are much higher there than in unregulated areas. Plus the smaller reds just taste and smell better. aww brings back memories. Moved to mainland in 2013 but still have our house in Ewa Beach. Used to night dive at least once or twice a week. My wife would always get suspicious when I came home with a big Uhu, thought I bought it before I went out and stashed it in case I didn't catch. Not allowed to come home empty. Have a 23 foot Pontoon boat and periodically fish in the Delta in Northern Cal. Love your videos

This is a DOPE video. It shows the lifestyle of a "local". I was born in Oahu but moved to Cali (Bay Area) when I was 6. I still have hella family there (Town side, Aiea, Salt Lake, Pearl City and Mililani). I use to visit every summer till I reached High School. I would visit, here and there. The last time I was there was 7 years ago. I miss my cousins and when I watch your videos, it reminds me of my cousins and the BBQ's they had when I would visit. The point of my comment is, if I never moved to the Mainland, I think I'd be doing what you're doing Royce! Keep up the good work and keep posting your videos! I always stay hittin da water before you! Just usually from boat over there, when I do shore dives there I plan for drifts. When garmen descent gives you an "early riser award" you know you partner options stay limited. No one like hittin the road 2 hours before sunrise. I wish I could pump out edits as quick as you. My daughter makes editing a hard thing to get done quick. I'm super ADD if you can't tell from this comment.

The uhu aka parrot fish also makes sand once it eats the coral and algae it poops out sand that wash up on the beach and keep the beaches with beautiful sand. One adult parrot fish can product 1 ton of sand every year. Dont want to say dont shoot these fish Braddah put you really shouldn't for the that reason
