Marketing Fail....---2018 Lexus RC-F Review

  • Hey everyone, thanks for watching! This week Lexus USA sent me the 2018 RCF! This car has gotten a massive amount of hate for being too heavy and underwhelming in the torque department! While both of those are very true, I think the main culprit was Lexus's marketing department. They show this as a track car with a touch of luxury when in reality it is the complete opposite! This is a huge grand touring vehicle with a beautiful symphony of V8 noise! This is a true Lexus and puts luxury first! Should you disregard this car because it's not lighter and turbocharged? Watch and find out! :)

    I have a 2016 RCF with Carbon Package/TVD and let me tell you, this car is freakin' incredible. Handles very very well and shrinks around the driver in sport+ mode, high-revving V8 sounds amazing when it approaches redline (and downshifts), but desperately needs a catback exhaust and it attracts attention EVERYWHERE I go. People constantly fix their gaze and come and talk to me about this car. I spent $62,000 on a used 10,000 miles RCF and it is worth every penny.

      Get the meisterschaft catback with the midpipe with the valves that open and close. You won't regret it.

      2015 RCF with Carbon Package/TVD right here! Glad I got it and not the M4...M4 is fast..but I hate the way it sounds....plus on the street there is no launch control for the M4....which equals BYE BYE M4 BYE BYE.....LOL

    • @rogermahajan7586
      @rogermahajan7586 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. RCF noise is amazing. Yeah, I have plans to get an aftermarket exhaust as the stock exhaust is too restrictive. Good catbacks easily dyno around 30 whp higher on the RCF.

      I LMAO when kids try to race me in their parents...Audi, BMW, or Mercedes.!!! " Buuuut Buuut Buuut its my Mommies Car. What? That A5, 3 series, or C250....Bwhahhahahahah! My Civic goes faster.

      LOL that is funny, Jimmy. I have had a few STI, BMW and Mercedes play with me, but it looked more like admiration than being jerks. My wife and I usually laugh when we see someone getting a close up on our car or we see people pointing and talking about our car in the rear view mirror.

    The only people that have been mislead on this car are the people who believe the nonsense some people say.
    EXTREMTLY underrated car. A killer value on the used car market. This car is a beast and a blast to drive. It also looks mean in person and the interior design is really unique love the seat designs and dash.

      Roger Mahajan I personally think the RCF is a better GT car then a full on balls to the wall performance car. But definitely good performance to have fun when you want.

    • @rogermahajan7586
      @rogermahajan7586 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Ryan. It does everything extremely well. Handles so well that you cannot go past 8/10ths on the street, acceleration is amazing once you are revving between 5500 rpm and 7450 rpm. If you are revving high and toss it in turns, the car shrinks around the driver and handling becomes extremely sharp. Luxury, exterior, interior, styling and attention magnet. This car has everything in healthy doses.

      Roger Mahajan likewise but I have a liquid silver with the performance package carbon roof and wing with TVD and orange calipers I was constantly back and forth on the buy then I was at lexus of Austin and they had a deal on one of the demo cars which happens to be the one I bought having only been used by the owner of the dealership it only had 1500 miles on it and no issues they sold it to me for $59000 with all the options TTL included . It was a 2016 and also L certified so they also gave me two years free maintenance.

Spectacular job with the visuals, panoramic shots, and etc. (really like the visuals you added to the video, makes the video look top notch haha). Keep it going! You’re one of the most underrated car review channels on TH-cam! 👍🏽🙂

    I remember seeing reviews about people bagging on it how it's slower compared to it's competitor because of it's weight. One thing about this car versus the others is that it's reliability vs speed. Modern cars are no longer getting cheaper buying them new or second hand. I want a sports car that can take care of itself well and doesn't require attention every month. Lexus covers this dilemma well. Now, dream car. Soon, future car.

I still own a 04 GS430 and for all the hate the RC-F is getting I don’t mind at all it will make the car at least attainable down the road for us die hard Lexus V8 guys and you can trust the RC-F like all the great Lexus V8 can easily push 200K Miles.

    The button under the touchpad (With the two up arrows) is a "more options" button that appears on some screens, such as in the climate menu, individual phone contacts, recent addresses menu, when you move to a spot on your map. It's an odd little button but a quick way to access extras when you need them. The button icon appears at the bottom of the screen when accessible

    Great review hit most of the important points but the car weights less than 4000lb not more as you stated just shy at 3958 lb to be exact and the carbon although mostly for looks weights 200 less than that. I just hate the fact the new 2018 mustang gt has same hp but more torque and yes it’s ford but has a lot more power upgrades available and some with warranty such as the roush kit which even after that being added and the car being payed off is cheaper than the fully loaded carbon Lexus stock.

    That color of blue is quite striking! If this were "my" purchase, "I" would get those orange brake calipers painted black or dark blue. In addition I'd of specced the interior color a darker color or even black with blue stitching! Otherwise it's a nice looking sporty type of car.

    Lets not forget about Lexus build quality and reliability and its important to mention that as so many expensive sports cars are unreliable these days, my girlfriend has an 05 RX 300 she won't part with it lol It's done 68k and drives like new never ever breaks down everything works on it and its way ahead of its time on technology, I can only imagine that a 2018 Lexus would be a very nice car and very well built, you didn't mention the MPG but I would imagine that its good for a naturally aspirated motor and not so much low down torque, maybe that was the goal of Lexus to build a nice sporty cruiser with reasonable gas mileage...

    People should show some appreciation that Lexus is still giving us a NA V8 instead of a Turbo V6. Keep in mind I've only ever driven V6 (minus my early 4-bangers), but even I can see the benefit of still having a 5.0L V8 as an option; also realize that this is Toyota we are talking about, would have been easy (almost expected) for them to go Eco-warrior on us, but they didn't forget about the car-people. Now where the F*ck is a Honda rep, want to scream at them some more for taking away our V6 motors >:-(

    Different categories but I’m stuck between choosing an RCF and a 2021 Toyota supra 3.0 premium. In five years after I retire I plan on buying either one of these. I currently on a 2002 Lexus ES 300 which gives me all the luxury I need quietness and reliability but I also don’t want issues with long-term reliability with a basically a BMW supra so I believe that’s gonna be my decision to choose RCF. A great used one or 2 owner 2015-2017 RCF. Besides I’m not tracking it

    Lexus Toyota reliable. What is the cost of this car?

  • @olderwiser2080
    @olderwiser2080 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wasn't. Bought my '16 new for $65K, and love it. Use sport+ mode if you want to have some fun. BTW, Randy Pobst did back to back hot laps in the RCF and M4 (video on YT), and the times were very close, less than what you would expect from tire differences, so the media boobs complaining about track performance and weight are clowns. The RCF is a luxury GT, that I've seen beat late model vettes in the quarter. The RCF is not a track car (unless you can afford gate fees and track insurance, or to wad up a $75K car), because it's suspension is a firm road tune, not a track tune. These same twits are the ones that call any new styling cues "ugly", until they figure out it's not a few years later. For some reason, Toyota seems to get beat on by the auto press like no other brand. Maybe they're not passing out as many long term press loaners as BMW. Any reviewer that compares them to other makers without mentioning Toyota reliability and resale, is doing his audience an dis-service. Here's a link to the pro driver hot laps, showing the .3 second difference in lap time, so practically tied with the M4. Timed hot laps start at 15:45 th-cam.com/video/i9A3eY8PRtQ/w-d-xo.htmlm44s

      C7 is a 2 seater plus RCF has a high-revving small V8 making the same amount of power. Yes, RCF is heavier, but is far more luxurious than the C7 so I purchased an RCF for all those reasons.

      Yeah, much less than brand new, but still holding their value very well especially the carbon/TVD models with all optional packages on them.

      Roger Mahajan I actually saw couple of 15 Models in the the low 40’s even one at 39K for a car almost 75K to drop that fast is insane gotta love luxury car depreciation.

    For my personal thinking Lexus RCF is really not worth the money at all , hey i owned the RC 2015 and my friends do have at least 4 RC and 2 RCF at the time 2015 but going up to 2017 we all decided to move to Germany brands all done with Lexus . Fun to drive yeah i would say it but not really cool anymore :)

    • @iheartgs400
      @iheartgs400 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teddy Doan I’m a Lexus guy myself I agree with this especially the price there asking for especially the GS-F. Maybe I can’t wait till this car reaches a certain depreciation point .

    • @teddydoan63
      @teddydoan63 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right now you can buy the RC-F 2015 around 30k miles for 42-45k easy . I dont drive Sedan much i have no idea with the GS-F prices . But for the RC-F yeah same with everything between 2015 to 2018 :)

    • @iheartgs400
      @iheartgs400 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teddy Doan with so many great choices for performance coupes it really hurts the RC-F overall. My hunch is the ones that will pick these up eventually are the die hard Lexus guys that will keep these up to 200K miles

    What is the regular one called? RC350? That's all lexus should've made, the RCF is a joke, why pay extra for a "sporty'' car that is leaps and bounds slower than a m4, c63 amg, rs5 etc, it's even slower than a mustang GT, Camaro ss and challenger srt, so I don't see the point of paying extra for the RCF, just save the money and get the rc350 for the looks because neither model offers any type of decent performance

    • @great159
      @great159 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Quick JAW The RCF 0 to 60 is 4.3sec (motor trend). So it's just as fast as a challanger srt8. Faster than 2011-2017 mustang GT (auto and manual), 2010-2015 Camero SS (auto and manual). Yes it can't beat the New 5.0 and SS, But the RCF is a luxury GT car NOT a dedicated muscle car.💯🤓

    Sorry for the thumbs down, but not sorry... for 3 reasons. 1 - The camera sucks. if you're going to have 13k subscribers, use something more professional than an iPhone, or at least buy an app that allows you to control your focus and exposure. It blows my mind that people get companies, like Lexus, to loan them cars and they're using an iPhone to film it. 2 - Wear pants. NOBODY wants to see your hair legs while your gym shorts are riding up. kinda gross. 3 - the POV angle was a better quality, but extremely shaky and needs to be lower, not mounted on top of your head.
    I like the car though.
