These trading cards are burned into my head. Any time I think of a character I’m usually thinking of an image from a trading card more so than comics or movies. Absolutely iconic.
Jim Lee "Storm", definitely black leather. The artists or inkers that made it look white, were portaying it as a patent leather that highly reflected the light around it. GOD Bless Robo and all of our fellow fans and collectors.
@RoboDontKnow the only reason people think it was white is because of the cartoon... which was my introduction to X-Men. I was 3 in '92, incidentally.
Looking at the art in Mutant Genesis it looks like the inkers try'd to make her costume silver not black, if it was black it would have had blue highlights as is common with characters that have black costumes
@jonathanmills7329 the blue highlights to black costumes or hair was a later concept, and used more for matte-black. The white reflections on Storm's uniform is patent-leather or pleather material. Think, Trinity in the Matrix.
These cards were before my time (literally, I wasn't even born yet) but I love these videos. They're just chill and interesting, and point out figures that it would be nice to have. Plus, my appreciation for random cards has gone up since I started collecting those cards you get with wafer biscuits in Japan. So I say keep it coming, Robo!
An instant buy for me would be an angular, translucent Iceman. Butterfly joints, pinless. Like Robo said, packed with a large curving ice slide. And ice blast effects (yeah, his price would go way up, but that display would be so good). I'm a simple man and was an 80s kid. Also, not ever getting a Giant Size/80s Cyclops (except that Dark Phoenix 2 pack that became insanely expensive and hard to get quickly) just kills me. That's my Cyclops. Seeing the 27 editions of the Jim Lee Cyclops they keep making is like a personal insult lol.
As a guy who was a kid in the 90s and was introduced to the X-Men via the cartoon, I really don't understand the love for the Jim Lee costumes. I think they're over designed. There's too much going on and not enough focus. However, as Cyclops is far and away my favorite X-Man, I will take all the versions of Cyclops they want to give us. They need to cool it on the Jim Lee Cyclops, though. He's had way more appealing costumes.
Starjammers: We don't have Sikorsky...we have Ch'od's pet. :) Imperial Guard: We just got Fang last year. He was the unfortunate soul to be infected by the Brood, and Wolverine stole his costume, but he was a part of the Guard initially. I'd love Rachel, Feral, and the two remaining Starjammers, as well. One can always hope. All those early Excalibur characters would be sweet, too, but it's hard enough getting them to do characters that aren't quite as much of a 'deep cut' as those are. Deathbird is definitely do-able, especially now that she's in the X-Men '97 show. Cheers!
There have been many Fangs in the Imperial Guard. I believe the current Fang was last used during the middle of the Krakoan era when he was so impressed with Daken that he presented him with their "uniform" (the costume Logan stole) and made him "part" of the Fang.
I have said it before, and i'll say it again. Jim Lee's renditions of these characters will always be my mind's eye version. Definitely my favorite comic artist, wirh Todd McFarlane, a close second.
So glad I kept all my cards. These vids make me wanna go take them all out of storage. And the idea of a legends wave of the first appearance X-Men would be awesome!
I have these in storage somewhere. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I think series 3 of the marvel cards were the one I loved most... Keep this series coming Robo!
I loved the Marvel Series 2 and 3, with the space backgrounds. X-Men Series 1 and the Series 2 with Andy Kubert’s art are still close to my heart. I even liked the Marvel Masterpieces set Joe Jusko did, then the Greg and Tim Hildebrandt Masterpieces were great. The Spider-Man series with Mark Bagley Art had multiple nine-card “poster” sets.
30+ years later and I still have my Jim Lee X-Men cards in a drawer in my house. Somehow, they’ve survived my various moves. I was always curious as to who did the art for the Marvel series one cards.
Now that I'm finally collecting Marvel Legends X-Men, I find myself really wishing that I had kept all these card sets (I sold them on ages ago). Keep 'em coming. ❌♥
Robo, I love the attention of X-Men goodness 😍. We are in need of the Deathbird and Exodus figures. Oh, more of this content, please. Be well, my friend.
That card set was my first exposure to comic book art. So Jim Lee's art is my standard for comic book art. It would be nice to have figures of all the characters featured in the cards. I'd like to see the X-men Flare cards. I collected the 93 cards. My older brother had the X-men cards featured in this video.
Haha, all we had was a few magazines that were usually out of date by the time they published and then inserts in the toys we got. Oh, and Sears/JCPenney catalogs! And commercials. The beautiful commercials.
yep. until I got no more comic cards. and costed out of comics. and now missing out MLs this past year because of all these "exclusives". #NoMoreExclusives!!!!1!!
That was a fun trip down memory lane. I think I got out of comics around the same time as you since some of the characters you were not too familiar with were also unknown to me as well. A guide through the Marvel Handbooks would be fun. I have fond memories of thumbing through the originals back in the day. A buddy gave me the Marvel Legacy 1960's and 1970's Handbooks that I've yet to go through. Oh man, if you have those, it'd be great to see a vid of it. Probably some comedy gold in them thar books!
Love this vid! That X-Men card set was the only one I completed before stopping collecting trading cards. As for Colossus (my fave), I want the red costume (with belts) and a classic Peter with blue legs!!!
I really want a more stout torso sculpt for magneto. Floating chest and butterfly joints and all the fixings really would be ideal for a character as dynamic as him.
Kylun and Cerise are late Alan Davis written and pencilled X-Calibur characters, which I read a lot of back when I was a kid. Once Davis left the book, the next writer quickly got rid of them, plus another two Alan Davis character, MicroMax and some wizard guy.
Back in the late 90s, I was a terror on the old AOL Toybiz message board-- I REALLY wanted a Danger Room line that used the 9 card danger room "build a poster" as inspiration.
Jim Lee stated its a black costume. The reason why ppl, the cartoon and toybiz got confused was because tons of characters in comics with black suits/leather actually looked black with appropriate highlights..gray/blue. The storm in Jim Lee's art was a black suit but wasn't colored like those other black suited characters. It had white highlights which confused a lot of ppl, toons and merchandising. In a nutshell, I blame the colorist for this whole debate.
Love these. Would be great to see them do an omega red using the same idea as the capcom cable in terms of his straps. Not sure he’s high enough billing to get that much dedicated work, but stranger things have happened!
I definitely need a bigger, thicker Magneto for the Jim Lee look. Maybe the new Punisher body? Double duty for a MvC figure. The thunder thighs are important.
I had those Hardee's figurines. I had no idea who Phantazia or whatever is. I have only read a single comic with her in them, well, since puberty. I read a lot more 90s comics in the 90s when I was a kid, but I REALLY don't care about them today. Like, at all. Exempting AoA, GenX and Operation Zero Tolerance.
First, Storm is in a Black Costume we all know it. Next I like the card sets but I also love the hand books, we just need more Reading Robo. My favorite set was series 3 with the space like backgrounds. I would love to see you go through the hand books more because I was like you and the hand books gave us so many characters. We could never be done with legends lol. Am I the only one who wants a Hammer and Anvil legend two pack?
I was very happy with my X-Men 275 Forge. I realized a while ago that he has the X-Men boots, not the brown ones that are cool. I may have to fix that…..
I never had the Jim Lee cards, but i did have a bunch of the bubble gum stickers based on those cards. I would love a Domino it the newer teal and white costume, and a Cerise(!). Animated Apocalypse in comic colors is a GREAT idea and a good way to change things up! And we can both be outliers because I'd totally buy the Technet and MLF multipacks!
Ch'od's pet is Cr'ree, Sikorsky is the flying robot Doctor. As far as a Sentinel I'd like, how about the Marvel vs Capcom Sentinel? Also, Excalibur Rachel & Outback Psylocke 2 big wants for me.
I’m not sure why I came across your video. I love X-Men and I have the cards and I used to collect toys so it’s all the things that I enjoy so now I have to go through a bunch more videos to figure out why
I feel like Gambit definitely needs an update. We've gotten the same under articulated figure with a traffic cone trench coat 3 times now. Be nice to get a version on a RYV Spidey buck with swappable unjacketed arms.
I always thought Storm had a shiny silver costume in that card poster, not a black costume. I hope I’m right because I would love a shiny silver variant of Storm. 😆🤞
Robo might be an old soul but we all know he adores that Jim Lee X-Men Blue Team Cyclops costume. The only grail figure I need on my X-Men shelf is a Mr Shiv. He never got a trading card and he’s not super popular. But he appeared in the Wolverine:Bloody Choices graphic novel and he’s been on my want list ever since
The single figure Warpath is good maybe if they redo him and put him on that retro card (Walmart exclusive) Venom body with the lover hinge and ball upper torso he would be perfect.
13:41 both the Sentinels and Galactus I feel could get a release of a more standard design. As it is their Haslab versions are far more detailed than most of their comic appearances or at least their more classic ones, so it would be neat to see some smaller versions that are easier to get with more simplistic designs. It might be a nightmare, but I also picture a Hot Wheels track type situation, with swappable bends and twists and turns. Make it flexy for different supports to make it incline and decline. Sigh....
I loved this card series. Jim Lee did such lovely versions of everyone. And seeing these again makes me want Hasbro to do artists editions
This why i like watching robo. A trip down memory lane. 😊
These trading cards are burned into my head. Any time I think of a character I’m usually thinking of an image from a trading card more so than comics or movies. Absolutely iconic.
As a diehard DC guy, wow, I'm learning sooooo much about Marvel This is awesome!!
Heh, as someone who was hardcore Marvel until the late 2000s, I wish I knew more about DC. Maybe I need to grab some Whos Who issues.
Jim Lee "Storm", definitely black leather. The artists or inkers that made it look white, were portaying it as a patent leather that highly reflected the light around it. GOD Bless Robo and all of our fellow fans and collectors.

That set was really cool thats cool that robo has this set😊
Yes Marvel give us a Cerise and a Rachael Summers we need that Excalibur goodness, keep doing these cards their awesome.
Everything, Robo. Be our guide through the Marvel Universe!
Thank you robo these bring me back to my childhood
Robo, I love the attention of X-Men goodness 😍. We are in need of the Deathbird and Exodus figures. Oh, more of this content, please. Be well, my friend.
Love this stuff. Great video and I would definitely watch more of this kind of thing.
I'm not really into trading cards, but I genuinely enjoyed this video. I would love to see this kind of content more often.
I would visit comic shops a lot more, if the closest one wasn't over an hour away. So, I feel you there.
I want more please. And more tales from the tub, I love love love these.
Man …:I loved these cards when I was young. Gotta go get them out now. Great video and I absolutely agree with every point you made. Subscribed!

Robo I sm loving this style of content. Keep it up!
There is no debating Storm's Jim Lee costume. It was black in the comics, and white in the cartoon because it's easier to animate.
Silver in many of jim lee's comics. These cards are a little dark comparatively.
Had these! Loved these!
... sadly my collection was stolen decades ago. 😢
Just goes to show how universal pop culture was in the 90s to get robo singing en vogue.
Thanks Robo! The card sets are so cool to revisit.
Yeah, I'm gonna need Cerise in figure form, thank you very much
The more I look, the more I do like the look. And Kylun too.
Love the handbooks
I think a WarWolves and Brood 2 pack army builder set would sell like hot cakes. I know I'd buy at least 10 packs!
I would pay good money if someone somewhere made that Danger Room page into a legitimate poster that I can frame and put on my wall.
BEAUTIFUL ART!!!

"Robo's great, but don't take my word for it" ~Star Trek Cyclops
I love this card series videos you are doing, keep them coming! will be great if you do one with Spider-Man characters if you have those Robo
A Capcom styled Sentinel would be neat. Sure it would be a pretty unique mold, but there's plenty of alt colors they could use for it.
There were sightings of that Strife 5 pack at Ross, didn't manage to find one though. I really love these old cards. More!
Oh yeah! But I never saw it either, and I'm sure a LOT of other people had the same experience.

Am I the only one who wants a Hammer and Anvil legend two pack?
I did make a Psylocke custom using the WARBIRD body and chefs kiss all day long ROBO,..all day
Hmmm, I'm slowly coming around to that idea. I think of it as slightly small, but maybe just for Warbird?
I was very happy with my X-Men 275 Forge. I realized a while ago that he has the X-Men boots, not the brown ones that are cool. I may have to fix that…..
I did that swap and it's totally worth it. The old boots don't join with the 3 pack legs too pretty but the fringe at the top completely hides it.
The KO Juggernaut is solid.
This man said nothing but straight facts.
I never had the Jim Lee cards, but i did have a bunch of the bubble gum stickers based on those cards.
I would love a Domino it the newer teal and white costume, and a Cerise(!). Also a Darkchild Magik, that's the look that introduced me to her and it's such a great design.
A release of the retro card Apocalypse in the blues would be nice.
I might be an outlier, but I'd take a one-off Amazon Exclusive Technet multipack. And an MLF set, for sure!
Animated Apocalypse in comic colors is a GREAT idea and a good way to change things up! And we can both be outliers because I'd totally buy the Technet and MLF multipacks!
We definitely need more Imperial Guard and a new Gladiator on the Vulcan buck.
I'm thinking bigger for Gladiator. Hercules? Larger?
@@RoboDontKnow Apocalypse? Or is he too thick?
Definitely want red Shatterstar, and then Domino had her Toybiz purple and blue costume they haven’t done yet.

Next card set for sure! It has the 2099 foils that def need discussing.
Oh, you're not going to like me talking about those because I don't know anything and not attached at all to 2099.
A new Mystique on the new pinless female body is high on my list, and a new Iceman for sure

Haha, I do the hard stance on Storm's black costume as a running gag, would definitely love to see a silver release. EVEN THOUGH ITS COMPLETELY WRONG!
