The isosceles is special only because of symmetry, and that the area is half of the product of the sides or of the height by the hypotenuse. Otherwise, it is just another right angled triangle. The ratio of the sides is of more interest than the angles between them.

So are these 'special right triangles' just different ways of specifying right triangles based on their angles and side length? I may be wrong for all I know... I'm just kind of.. um... 'learning' this... but I think my teacher this past year kind of taught us this... not sure... but I have to learn about special right triangles for my summer assignment.
