  • Hi Friends!
    Matt and I have survived another week here in Nova Scotia. We are starting to chip away at the work that needs to be rather than staring at it in utter disbelief! Taking things one day and one step at a time is helping. Our kind neighbours bringing us fans to air out the house doesn't hurt either. We have been here only a short time and have made some good friends that have been very kind and really supportive! It's hard to be so far away from home and everything you know and just a little kindness goes a very long way! If any of our viewers have any suggestions on how to keep the mold from coming back please take some time to comment below. We really don't want to scrub every log again.... or at least for a very long time. I'm also going to take you on a lil tour of the house.....kind of a before glimpse of what we are working there. To be totally fair.... there isn't a ton of change that we can make in a log home.... we wont be painting the walls, but the bathrooms at some point will get a makeover, our home decor will evolve, kitchen counters and appliances will be replaced and our own personal touches will be sprinkled around the home!. I hope you are enjoying these weekly vlog. I really want to start posting twice a week so I would really encourage you to consider subscribing, so not to miss a thing!
    Thanks sdo much for hanging out with me and I will see you again for another vlog!
    Love ya!

    Beautiful Place. You'll make a lovely home. Your channel came up in my recommendations, I love the view and your vision for your Home/Cottage. 2 wood stoves just have plenty of cords of wood and wool blankets! You'll get your place together I have faith in you. everything can be cleaned and sealed and there are safe space heating options. Gosh see the possibilities and I adore the adventure of it all. I am disabled that said I enjoy adventure it has to be vicarious. Cheering you on!! One step at a time. Breathe. Prayers.

    Wow... That place is so amazing, beautiful. I would love to live there, truly. Maybe some of your children can come live on your land someday. That would be wonderful. Nothing happens overnight. It all takes time. Hang in there. I know they're missing you to.

    OMG welcome to NS you guys! We came to CB, NS a little over 3 years ago... i too cried the first night, even asked my spouse if we made a mistake BUT I wasn't willing to admit to our family back in ON. Hang in there... like you said towards the end of the video it gets better ... BUT that darn guilty feeling ohhh creeps up around special occasions or when something big happens here or there... Despite having moved many times in my life this one seems the hardest. Still we have grown to love our home here - still in "reno" mode ;-) - I hope once your family visits it will feel more normal for you too. That was when my emotions calmed down a bit. Which part of NS do you call home? We are near Louisbourg, CB. For heat look into heat pumps... way more efficient. With baseboard heating our first bill was 800$+. Sending lots of love - oh and winters are mild here... with exception of snow days lol. |And Starlink is our lifeline too all here - more reliable in all weather than Bell.

      OMG.... CB is on our list of places to visit! Sounds like we went through very similar emotions. The Mom guilt is always in the pit of my stomach!! It creeps in at weird times and tends to linger. Matt has been really supportive....it's different for guys I think.
      We will be in Reno mode for a while, but I like the idea of staying busy! What are your bills like with the heat pump.... I am guessing a lot better!
      Thanks so much for reaching out. The world feels so big sometimes until you start taking to people and making connections....then it doesn't feel so big and there in comfort in that. So thank you for reaching out and making the world feel just a little smaller!

    I don't know if I would ever own another log house again in Nova Scotia. My insurance is $300 a month. Only a few insurance companies to choose from will insure it. There are so many issues, it takes more maintenance than a regular house. It's not as energy efficient, as it takes more to heat it and rodents seem to find their way in easier. As a single person I cannot afford this, and it's too much to take on by myself. Also good luck finding someone who specializes in them in NS. They look great though! Good luck!

      I hear yeah!
      Insurance is crazy and there aren't many options you are 100% right and that was a cost that we really had not anticipated being so high. What did you do you keep the mice away.... any tips I would gladly take. We haven't seen much but I am guessing in the winter we will for sure!
      There are some big downsides to owning a log cabin that we didn't consider but there are some upsides too! Our property is what I really love!

    Seems you have a lot of humidity which grows mold. But at least 2 humidifiers for your home and one for the bunk house. Get kind of small ones because the catch bucket will be too heavy to move when it fills with water! Hopefully that will end your mold problems.

      @foundbutstilllost  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The bunkie doesn't seem to get moldy just the log home. We added a second dehumidifier and you are right...... we are keeping the humidity level at 55%.
      I hope the mold never comes back!!!

    Its a lovely property. Just needs a bit of elbow grease. Make a list of jobs and get on with it.
    Set up a Raccoon feeding station, that will raise your spirits.
