  • Brilliant crabbing has resulted from recent heavy rainfall that has flushed giant mud crabs from every corner of the mangrove swamps. It is this seasonal rainfall that is essential to a sustainable fishery. Catching and cooking a feed of mud crabs is all part of living in Northern Australia.

    Hello, my husband and I loved the chilli mud crab recipe. Can you share it with me please.

    • @returnoutdoors2210
      @returnoutdoors2210  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for watching. I make the chilli crab to taste with the following ingredients:
      Fresh ginger, garlic and onion
      Chilli sauce - 1/4 to 1/2 cup
      Tomato sauce - 1/4 to 1/2 cup
      Soy sauce - 1 to 2 tablespoons
      Balsamic vinegar - 1 teaspoon
      Chicken stock - 1 to 2 cups
      Chilli paste to taste
      Corn flour for thickening the sauce once the crabs are cooked through
      I cook the cleaned crabs in the sauce for about 10 minutes.
      Enjoy!

    Really enjoyed your video. Do you mind me asking what might the salinity of the water be? Do you get mud crabs even in low saline water? (less than 2 ppt) Was doing a project on mud crabs, hence I ask you.

    • @returnoutdoors2210
      @returnoutdoors2210  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am unsure of the exact salinity level on this day. There was very little fresh water run off further upstream in this river system. From my experience you will not catch quality or good numbers of mud crabs where salinity levels are depleted. Good luck with your project and thanks for the questions. Cheers, Brad.👍

    Personally I cannot see the reason to adulterate the natural flavor of a mud crab but that is only my opinion

    • @returnoutdoors2210
      @returnoutdoors2210  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree the natural flavour of a mud crab is delightful on its own. Sometimes I like to try different flavours. Thanks for your comment!

    Its so sad that every video ive watch concerning Mud Crabs Cook and Eat, no one every eats them. Is something wrong with them???

    • @returnoutdoors2210
      @returnoutdoors2210  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mud crabs are of excellent eating quality. I eat mud crab in many of my videos. They can be a little messy to eat so not great viewing watching others having a feed. Cheers!

    When is the best time to go Crab? Such as tide and how often to you check those traps?

    • @returnoutdoors2210
      @returnoutdoors2210  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like crabbing when there is good amount of tidal flow. It will depend on the type of pot so it could be as short as 10 minutes for a dilly to leaving a safety pot overnight. Thanks for the question!

    Great video again. I am fairly new subscriber so I will be watching any other shellfish videos you have created (not a fan of fishing videos in general so I might just skip those). So keep the new ones coming (with cooking is always nice), and so again I will be watching/catching up with the others like this one, and wait for the new ones. Thank you for sharing and please keep them coming.😀
