    G’day Steve , bloody nice job so far mate and I was just wondering about the weight difference using timber instead of the usual ally sheeting plus moisture and heat exposure, sealing the timber blah blah blah .
    Waiting on the next vid 😎👍🍻 , Kim .

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate. Thanks for watching.
      Not sure about the weight difference to be honest. I’d think the ply is lighter overall because I don’t need to add folds to add strength like steel. But I’m guessing really.
      Heat and moisture won’t affect the ply unless is was submerged in water for a few days.

    Hi will you giving a breakdown on the cost. We are thinking of doing the same, we have a caravan but looking into the option of a trailer to put our roof top on for of the track trips. hubby is also a cabinet maker. We binged all the videos last night, but we noticed that you stopped putting which episodes you were up to. Looking forward to seeing the next episode

      @Australian4x4Adventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. Sorry about the delay between the eps. Kids tend to get in the way of my TH-cam 😂.
      Yes at the end of the series I’m ganna do a breakdown of all the costing and mistakes I made along the way.
      The next episode will be Sunday week away ( this Sunday is my new car video ).
      The next vid covers more joinery and the cooking for the fridge.
      Then it’s electrics. Then the rooftop setup
      Then a whole walk through
      Then the. Costing video.
      So there’s still a few to come.
      After all of that I’ll start stage 2 which is sorting out the suspension and tyres on the camper ( which I’m currently doing right now ).
      Hopefully this helps you follow along.

    It is good ur paying attention to heating factors & ventilation for the fridge, but also consider extra insulation (foam, high or low density) to pack around the sides as well, as it will also make a huge difference in performance & efficiency, the more the better as long as it doesn’t hinder airflow to the condenser, & that is assuming ur fridge doesn’t radiate heat from its outer skin like a house/domestic type fridge. I would also suggest a small switched computer type (quiet) fan on a thermostat for higher temp climates with alloy frame slide in filters for air in & out. I have a similar control switch setup, usb’s, etc as ur’s, but mine came with fuses already on each switch output, fantastic for $35. Good vid. Cheers

      I had thought about insulating panels but wanted to try it without anything for 2 reasons.
      1. Cost. The whole idea was to try and make a true offgrid camper for as cheap as possible.
      2. Just wanted to see how it would go because it can be added later.
      So far it’s not bad. Had it in 35c temps and didn’t get hot at all in there.

    Looking good! Finding this trailer build interesting 👍🏼 The switch panel looks nice for the price, but isn't it a bit concerning that each switch/circuit won't be individually fused?

    • @newport5504
      @newport5504 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No why would that matter? That’s like saying each light in your house should have its own RCD

    • @djnmv
      @djnmv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@newport5504 depends how you use it and what thickness wiring you use in your circuits I guess. But here is an example of what I mean. Let’s say you hook up something to one switch that requires 10 amps, and you use wiring that is capable of at least 10amps, so you ensure that the main fuse for the feed to the whole switch panel has a 10amp fuse in it. Then you hook something else up to another switch that requires 5 amps, and you use wiring that is at least 5 amps capable. Now to run both items at once you need to have at least a 15amp fuse on the feed to the switch panel. This is all well and good, until.. the 5 amp item now goes faulty and short circuits. Your 5 amp wiring on that circuit now becomes its own fuse because it’s weaker than the 15amp main fuse, and you now have melted wiring or even worse it starts a fire! Hope that’s clear enough about what I meant? You could ask the same question about why cars have fuse boxes with all sorts of fuses, rather than just one big fuse at the battery 🤷‍♂️ If you have all the wiring on each circuit thick enough to be capable of running at least the same amperage as the main fuse you might get away with it, but still not ideal as a small amperage item could then still have power going to it when it short circuits and the main fuse may not blow quickly which could cause other issues like fires etc. The proper way is to fuse each thing separately, especially if they aren’t a similar item drawing a similar amperage.

    • @newport5504
      @newport5504 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@djnmv all he needs to do is fuse the cable to the cable size that is already used on the switch, if it’s only rated to 15amps you would use a 15a fuse to protect the panel, depending if there’s voltage drop, I couldn’t think of a load you would use 10amps on a switch like that ? Those switches would have a maximum amount of amps that can be used, a switch panel like that isn’t an isolator as an example a travel buddy oven you would use an isolator not that switch panel

    • @djnmv
      @djnmv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@newport5504 you’ve totally ignored the guts of what I was talking about. And the 10amps was just an example, I wasn’t meaning you would actually run 10amps through one of those switches. If all you care about is protecting the wiring that’s already installed on the switch panel when you get it, then fine, that one main fuse will probably do the job. But when you factor in all the other wiring you will connect to it, and potentially different types of wiring size and electrical equipment drawing varying amounts of amperage, having one main fuse for it all is not ideal, and potentially could cause a fire. What I would probably do is run the wiring from each switch into a fuse box and have a fuse for each circuit that I could put an appropriate fuse size on. Each to their own I guess 🤷‍♂️

    • @newport5504
      @newport5504 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@djnmv that would be stupid to do, no one would run a seperate fuse for a panel like that, if you wanted that you would buy one designed for it
