When I was a young man one of my older friends gave me these words of wisdom. “The older you get the lonelier you get.” At 23 I did t quite understand? I had lots of friends, so I thought. He told me that throughout life I will only have 3-5 true friends. The rest will be around for reasons or seasons. 30 years later he is 100% correct.
This is honestly the reason why I decided to have children. My mom doesn’t have many friends, what she has is four daughters she has become friends with since we’ve gotten older. My husband and I have such great relationships with our families (though not perfect by any stretch) that we wanted to create that for ourselves. It’s a lot of work and I’m probably not going to get to transition from the “mom zone” for another two decades, but I’m fine with that. As morbid as it sounds, I just want people with me when I’m dying.
This is my second video of yours. The first was the van build. Can I offer an old lady's perspective? There is no perfect life that you are missing. There is the path that you choose to make. Please reach out to find help in your lowest hours, it is out there. If you love being social please join meetup groups, and other things that interest you, You will find companionship doing what you love to do. There are so many people in the world and they would love to know you.
True words.. to be honest most people need social interactions in their life weather in work or in private.. finding a purpose in life and a true partner will fulfilled your loneliness.. covid has stud down almost everything and its going to be another year before it will return to normal... maybe.? Best wishes to you stay strong.. from Australia sadly can't meet you but never say never. Stay safe and healthy and I hope you find what you looking for. DAVID
My wife and me are from Puerto Rico. If you’re ever around Salinas, and want to have a home cooked meal, drop in on us. We’d love to meet you, share stories and just chat about anything that comes up. Cheers to you, young man.
Hey! Thanks for the invitation! Shoot me a text so I have your contact (831) 222-5761! I'll definitely come by Salinas eventually because I visit Monterey occasionally!
I live in Southern California and became disabled 5 years ago and it forced me to find a frugal way of life. Long story short I bought an rv and have lived full time in it and love it. I ran across your video and love the simple life that people choose. Love your van. Well built... keep up the good work.
Evan, just found your channel. I hear your loneliness and sadness. I hope that you can find yourself and learn to be joyful. I hope that you will find a partner to share your journey and life. Wishing you the best.
me: opening scene, "hey that's my street! hey! that's Stern Grove!" thank you for sharing your story and struggles, you're an awesome young man, wise beyond your years and will attract like minded people in the world especially here in CA. Your van build and the build for dad is VANTASTIC! seriously the best build I have seen. I bet you will be in high demand soon. what a talent and beautiful soul.
Hi Evan! I'm a high schooler from Vintage Faith Church, and I LOVE this video. The way you deliver your story is so engaging and vulnerable, and your insights into the value of church community are so beautiful and true. Belonging in a community that loves and cares about you is so important, and I'm so glad that you felt that at our church! I love your vision for a community here in Santa Cruz, and I hope you know that you're always welcome at VFC as well! Best wishes for everything that you do 🤗
Yes, Evan. Like Met said, your vulnerability keeps me watching your videos. That takes courage. What a fine build you and your Dad did on your van. Great cinematography and editing.
Your passion and ability to paint a picture with words is a gift, you have all you need to venture and succeed in whatever you put your energy into, the world is yours if you wish to grab it. Good luck and I look forward to the next adventure.
First of all, i admire your courage and thoughtfulness, at that age i don't even think as big as you. Second, i really love how you deliver your story, it is engaging and provoking, even your call to action resonates with me. Thank you for your stories and content. I will be looking forward to hear more of your journey and your community that you build / pass through. You seem eager, but if i may offer my two cents, it is okay to relax and take it slow. Take the world one step at a time as it goes by.
Taking it slow is definitely something I need to constantly remind myself. I have a million things I need to do now that I'm getting traction on my videos but it's ok to slow it down and not get worked up about being the best.
Hey Evan, guess I'm another friend from Singapore. It's heartening to hear about your story. Yeah, all that move must've taken a toll on you. Glad that your parents have given their blessings for you to live out your life. Take care & safe travels!
I sent your story to my son Chad who is half Filipino and lives with his dad in the East Bay of SF. He is currently couch surfing in Brazil trying to find a community of like-minded people. Chad will be returning to California in the Fall. I hope he reaches out and joins your envisioned Santa Cruz community. I’m trying to convince him to get a Cascade van like mine. 😆 You are like his brother by a different mother. Chad also found a cool Mormon community when he lived in San Diego. But could not 💯 commit to their beliefs and doctrine. Your personal story was so similar to his in religious & college experiences. It made me cry as mother wanting the best for her adult child.
Me too.... Also, I make the best deviled eggs. If you're ever wanted to meet up with in Los Angele County, yor the Southern California Beach areas for a short period of time by the beach, we can meet up and I'll share my recipe and some stories and a visual look at my 2 door Jeep life. Anybody else willing to meet up, you can always email me.
Wow! I really connected to your story. I moved to Las Vegas from Florida for a job. I took everything thing I had with me to start a new life, all to have the job that brought me there pulled out from under me. That WRECKED me and I thought of ending things for a quick minute. But I remembered that things happen for a reason and I do know God has BIG things planned for all of us, even through the suffering. I moved back to FL, I'm now a Science teacher and have been married for almost a year now. There is a brighter side to life if you truly look for it. I wish you the best, and hope to meet you one day. 😎
WOW. The first van person that had me watch from beginning to the end. You are a worthy filmmaker. I do believe this is your calling. I felt like you were telling my story at the beginning. Thumbs up and subscribed
Came across this video after 1st watching your Stealth Van tour. It seems you have a way of producing quality in whatever you have a passion for. You've demonstrated you're multi-talented in areas which are in high demand and career worthy. Hopefully, you'll continue to pursue your passions whether it's movie making, van building, community building or something new. I wish you much happiness whichever path(s) you decide to take.
I can’t express enough how much I love this! Evan, thank you so much for sharing your story. I don’t live in California but if I ever find myself out in your area I will be sure to check out one of your events...I pray you find what you are looking for...
The tricky thing about happiness is that it is simply a point of reference and a huge part of how you decide whether you have attained it is influenced by your childhood and upbringing. Perhaps the one thing that stays true though, is that that definition will undoubtedly evolve and change with time. Love the build and videos, keep up the good work!
This is stupid, sorry, (not your video I saw it completely) I was thinking about being a Christian... I was born in a country that all people followed Christian rules... But now the church is full of lies and is a trap... But several of my friends founded a new Christian movement to make just that you said, a community in a neighborhood. When I lived in the US, I found that is difficult to develop relationships with anybody... I don't know why, but of all countries that I lived, the US is most isolated place that I was... But I found good friends that last until now, almost 10 years latter.
Just a suggestion : join or form a meetup group to find others with common interests. You might also consider volunteering at a charity like a food bank. People too often think in terms of finding meaning somewhere when it is really simpler: MAKE meaning for yourself.
Hi! Evan I just found your channel. I feel for you. Your sadness shows, but I can see the hope in your eyes. Things will change! Please make more videos so we can see you and the path you’re on. Your van is very cool, a lot of time and thought went into making it the perfect live in van for you. Update us often on TH-cam!
I've only had a few true friends. I have acquaintances that I can look up from time to time and catch up on things, but I've always found that these relationships never developed any further. I found a creative outlet in a 40 year career and made a few more acquaintances and one friend. The happiest time was when I poured myself into working with the less fortunate after work and on weekends. I made a couple more friends and acquaintances. I'm retired now and have decided that true happiness has to come from within me, and that giving of myself to help others nourishes me. I am a non-church-going Christian, but practice mindfulness and meditation believing that this is the way to pray without ceasing. I endeavor to smile at everyone I meet and consciously express unconditional love towards them as I go about my daily activities always looking for opportunities to help. This has become my path towards happiness. I know you will find yours too, do not dispare.
My MAN, So wise to know what you need and work to obtain it. I have a restart a few times due to my kids mom passing away and raising them alone, being a empty nester, and a bad motorcycle accident, that stuff made me lose my club and even the ability to compete in dance contests, I had to find new community's as well. Now my kids tell me I'm living my best life. I have a 26foot travel trailer and a electric bike that I use to just be out there. Great vid ,, Best regards, Scott
Dude, I had same experiences as you before, but what I eventually realized is to look inside of myself for guidance and strength. I can sense that your parents love you so much. I wish you all the best and find your way to a new meaning and life.
I know how you feel. I was like you when I was living in Australia by myself for work. I kept staying in the church community in the City. The feel of belonging and friendship will keep you grounded. Keep the faith😊
You are young, idealistic, and full of dreams and hope. You also have very supportive parents. You will find your way soon. College is not for everyone but you can always go back if you want to. I moved many times in my life. I moved from China to Hong Kong when I was 7, then from Hong Kong to Florida when I was 17, from Florida to California when I was 33. Each time I moved, I left all my friends behind, as if I left part of me behind and start all over again. I do not have a close family so friends are important to me. I can relate to your experiences and feeling of loneliness. I believe you are doing the right thing, reaching out and be honest with your situation. There are lots of caring people out there, evident by the comments people left you. Remember, feeling connected and loved and supported is a state of mind. One can feel lonely in the midst of others; one can also feel connected when one is physically alone. I hope you will find your purpose/community soon.
You tell a story well, Evan. My boyfriend and I don’t have any friends. We have tried. I think we may hang up flyers like you did. We live in Florida. If you ever come down, please let us know. I enjoyed your video. You seem like a very nice person.
We love your video’s Evan! You have a knack of making interesting videos. We enjoy the music, the scenery & also your story telling. Your talent can help other people in communities share about their journey in life. Idk, just throwing it out there. And reading a lot of the comments on your channel, there are so many good advice from people who care. This is the 3rd video of yours we’ve seen today & we thoroughly enjoy every single one. From how you started this video on how smooth you were in navigating from the back of your van to the front & then saying “I’m back in San Francisco” kinda reminded us of the kid in home alone’s child like attitude. Lol Also the park scenery was amazing. Your video’s are so refreshing on TH-cam. Stay safe & keep up the great work!
Nice to meet you Evan. I have also lived in a van in UK. I'm a Christian and I'm glad you met a lovely couple churches. You are on a journey. Praying for you. Can't be there physically but you have a new online friend in Scotland ❤️👍🙏 enjoying the videos. Great van build! What a lovely guy and very honest you are.
You are a rare specimen. You have a deep understanding of both engineering and sociology as they apply to your life. You're romantic AND classical. You're super smart and I love smart people and other people do too. Just keep killin it dude. It should fall into place.
I imagine many people feel as you do, looking for something that feels deep and meaningful that involves others. I wish you success and hope you can ignite something for others to find and be part of. I don't remember where I read this, but something like - it is the heart that holds our true passion and destiny, and it is only when we know what is in it can we move forward with purpose. Changing circumstances may seem like the thing to do, but it is the change of heart that takes you where you need to go.
Kudos to your film and editing, really impressive. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a 10 minute continuous long take with this level of content quality.
This video was put together really well. You have a talent at creating these videos and being able to communicate with people. I can already tell you will be successful. Thanks for sharing your story.
I agree. I was really impressed the forethought to make that rooftop scene of you walking. Curious what led you to think to put a camera up on a roof! You're very talented -- van building and creating great videos with presumably little experience in either. I'm certain you'll be successful in your community building endeavors as well.
Evan, you are a gifted story teller. I hope you continue working on this channel. I watch a lot of TH-cam, but yours make me want to stay more than nearly all the others. You’re so real, and your story telling is amazing, and editing, and your videography is also good. Keep it up-it’s amazing how many subscribers you have though you don’t post often-let that speak to how well you engage your audience and how drawn we are to you.
Dude, I have no idea how your video appeared on my feed since I'm from Singapore and that's across the globe. But you seem to be a genuine and nice person. Will follow your channel to let you know you're not alone.
I love seeing my beautiful City by the Bay! I’ve been gone 7 years and 2 weeks now, and I still miss it. If I end up in my van, as I am pretty much expecting, there’s a good chance I will head back out there. Great videos, Evan, and I really feel your pain and searching. Lots of folks have left some great advice in the comments. I wish you success with your channel, and in finding your tribe. At least the next one. Friendships do change over time, inevitably. Some people become closer, others drift away, and I have found that periodically, I have to deliberately make the effort to meet new people, especially when I lived in the Bay Area because it’s so transient. So many of my friends just literally moved away over the course of many years, and we lost touch, and yes, you’re right, meeting in the flesh really is different from online. Facebook and Zoom have certainly made it easier to stay in touch, but it’s not the same as being able to just get together for coffee or dinner, or to go to a movie together - and to give each other a hug. We *need* that basic physical contact with others.
Im also from Southern California and used to live in Santa Cruz for half a year back in the late 80s. Keep up the good work, believe and passion! Look forward to seeing more of your videos soon. Keep your dreams alive, my friend!!!
Thank you for having the courage to share your story. I want You to know that You are an inspiration! Building community is so needed! Follow your heart and be the best version of yourself!
I'm glad you found your way back to the special community you found. Whether it's Mega or smaller, those groups you mentioned and friendships from them can save your life and help you find your way. I served in one for 7 years in many ways. Speak more of your upbringing in video's. It may be personal but it brings your personality out. Carry on my friend.
Thanks for sharing your story. It's amazing that you have parents that are so understanding. Mine will not allow me to drop out of school, nevermind helping me build a van to get away.
Wow. Your comment reminded me that I keep undervaluing my parents willingness to support me. A part of my mind tells me “Of course they did what the did for me. They’re my parents.” but that would mean I take what they did for granted. Thanks for your comment
Dude your a great person with Rare Characteristics! Diamond in the rough you can say. With sooooo much potential! The World is your oyster, Crack it open and enjoy it!!! Sometimes being used to a place is probably not the best. Meaning your comfortable and need to make yourself uncomfortable( to really explore and realize you have potential to succeed at anything you do). You seem like a guy that wouldn't have a hard time socializing with anyone. Like you said when you moved to college you made more friends there then all your years in high school. You put yourself in a Christian church even though it wasn't your belief, but you explored it and left with a piece of it that stuck with you. That's the great thing about life, You learn as you go and unlock cool Achievements along the way.(whether that's friends skills or overall experience) Don't let the game called "life" keep you on level 1 when your ready to beat the boss!!!! I know the video is old, but I hope this reaches you! Much Love! Keep Pushing Forward!
That was a very impressive video. I am convinced you have identified what it is you want, and what you're good at. As for living in a van in San Francisco, that is the wisest move one can make given the high rent / mortgage rates there. Most important of all thought, you have the two factors for success: you're focused, and very persistent. Keep at it, and you will not fail. Keep at it, and you will never be alone.
I just watched the video of yours on how you prepared your van and now watching this video of how you're living your life and both truly amazing thank you so much for being brave. Keep striving forward. All the best from the UK
Your wisdom and genuine spirit truly inspired me.. You remind me such an important part of my life that I let go and that is creating a beautiful community.
Your explanation of losing joy will resonate with a lot of people who have experienced depression or low mood. I think your van build is perfectly done, no wasted space and nothing you don't need. I also think that a lot of the things you have considered to be missed opportunities aren't. If you could get them before, you could get them again. But, and here's the important part, if they don't truly make you happy, don't worry about milestones others have. Or ticks in a box. Best to find a way of doing something that can make you happy. Proud is almost something we get when we see ourselves in the third person. Happiness and joy is the feeling we need to feel, not just think. Regardless, I think you'll be just fine. 👍
I did church stints & tours over many years because I liked the community atmosphere, definitely not because I was particularly religious. Stopped all that at about the time things were running up on the 2016 elections and felt tides turning. Anyway, I feel a whole lot less weird now knowing that someone else had a similar approach to that end. 😊
I am so encouraged by your video, by you. Perhaps you can plug into an existing infrastructure and bypass the struggle of starting from scratch. Church isn't bad. You can be a small part of it, which is sometimes as important as being a big part of nothing.
Good on ya man, never ever ever give up, shit will always happen just keep fighting perhaps consider Elijah the tisbite and his struggles, my Dad once said that depression is a normal and natural response to the greed and selfishness that pervades the earthly existence. Be happy to be sad. Shows you have compassion
Lovely vid , thanks, good luck to you , you have everything going for you , young , able bodied and living in an incredible country with such incredible landscapes . I am solo , aged 58 have no friends or family but I have a good life here in the UK . it’s very hard to build a life I agree.
Great story Evan, really outstanding work. Sadly we have an epidemic of loneliness in this country, it great to see you be the change you want to see in the world. Thank you for the inspiration.
First, thank you for your willingness to open up to all of us out here and share your story. I'm glad your doing this, I think it will lead you to an unexpected joy. Some people might call it.....find your passion and then act on it. Maybe someday when I'm not taking care of a parent who is now 90, I can come to one of your events, I'd very much like to. In between your events, think about becoming a consultant to people who want to convert a vehicle into a place to live. There are so many now having to do this because of housing that is not affordable, especially for seniors. Glad I found your channel and I will keep following your progress and listening to your stories. Take care Evan
Hey Evan, thank-you for sharing your journey, your van-build, and that of your Dad's MB Sprinter, as well as showing me around San Francisco once again, where I stayed in my early 30s for a few months, working etc, bringing back great memories. I've subbed and keen to hear how things come together for you, mate, as I know they will; looking forward to hearing how you help build an amazing new community, person by person. Kind regards, Greg, New Zealand
Reach for the stars. You are closer than you think. Great B-role. Great message. Great authenticity. You HAVE a voice, Develop it. So happy for you, and where you are going to go!
When I was in my 20s, I felt lonely too, and always concerned and alternately excited about what my future would hold, always looking for sincere solid friendships, always moving about a little from here to there (tho I stayed in the So. Cal region for 30 years). I think, upon reflection, it's natural to yearn in one's 20s, natural to search and wonder and feel sad and inquisitive often - it's such a time of physical and emotional growth for a young person, particularly one deeply in touch with his or her feelings, and one who has put off family and children (either on purpose or not). Now about your video and what you shared; there's not enough space here to write my heartfelt commentary - but the overall sense is THANK YOU. Being in a close and shared community, such as a church (I'm a relatively new pastor after a lifetime of work in other paths) will help you with the longing to be a part of something with people who care and I highly recommend it. But know this. Even if you settle a bit, as long as you stay open to new people and adventures, your life will continue to evolve in ways you cannot know because that is the nature of life. You're not a snail! You're a man! :) Stay open, explore your feelings, let them wash over you and know you'll come to a good place eventually if you just trust the universe a little. These are VERY hard times to mature in. But life is like that - each generation has its horrors and joys. Try to focus on the joys. Every human interaction you end up having in life will mean something whether it's painful or joyful. Endure the pain and cling to the joy. And try earnest regular prayer. It works. You'll be all right. We'll be watching. Thank you for sharing. Pastor Diana V.
Thank you for your wholesome comment ☺️. I hope to stay open to new people throughout my life. I’m actually about to move back down SoCal (I’m working on an update video at the moment) and I hope I can find another great community down there. I’m worried but as you mentioned, I’ll endure whatever pain there is and cling onto the joy I’ll experience in this new stage in my life. Thank you again for your comment and I wish you luck in your new pastoral duties
What a beautiful and heart touching story at once! Hope you can fulfill your dream, create your own community and make the money you need to keep living anywhere your heart and van takes you!
Found you because of your build. I want to someday travel the us. I’m from San Jose but moved to Florida 6 years ago. I miss California so badly. Just watched this video. All I can say is good for you and sending positive vibes your way. I will be watching and hope to make it out some day.
Evan, you're a very creative and passionate young man. Most of all, you're so lucky to have such great and wise parents who loved and supported you, in such way. Go home and see them more often! The coast of California may be is beautiful to live in; however, if you're ever again experiencing any downtimes in those cities, at some point. Drive that mobile home of yours to travel to other states and places. I bet you'll find a whole lot of new experiences and excitements, as part of your life. Life is no boundary! Do it while you have the passion!!
Your story reminds me of my 20s - I ended up working for the Quakers in London, and discovered I'm a non-Christian Quaker at heart. No dogma, no words even - deep community, in silence, with the spirit of 'that of God in everyone' i.e. the best parts of our inate good spirits meeting the best parts of others innate good spirits, in silence, in deep communion. Early Quakers were Christian, and the majority still are, but you can be an aetheist Quaker, a Jewish Quaker, a Buddhist Quaker and so on. The reason they don't use words as part of their meetings (weekly services) is because they understand that words divide us (& get in the way of simply meeting others' spirit with our spirit. Perfect for me - no one's trying to persuade anyone else of anything, it's all about acceptance. But they also believe that we're here to reach out and help each other. i went on to work for the Quakers in the townships of Cape Town for a few years, and everything about the Quaker approach to daily life, and the meaning of life, speaks to me ... without me needing to adopt any religion. Best of luck with all your actions and intentions. If you can figure out your life and connections half as well as you've figured out a stealth van that specifically meets your individual needs, you're going to be absolutely fine, and live an inspired and inspiring life ♥️
Can you elaborate on the part where you mentioned that Quakers don’t use words? If they don’t have a weekly sermons, what is their main way of gathering? Thank you so much for your comment. I really appreciate your insight :)
@@StoriesFromaVan I was just as in the dark when I started working for the Quakers! Their worship gathering is called a Meeting (not a service), and they get together and sit down, usually in a circle, in silent contemplation. A core tenet of their philosophy / religion is that 'God' (or any description you choose) is in all of us - there is no heirarchy, we are all equal, so there is no worship leader (like a priest or vicar etc). Sitting in silence is for you to connect with 'that of God' within you, and from that place, meet / connect with the same 'God' essence in all the other people there. From that sort of spirit-connected place, you might be moved to speak, to share some truth that feels like it is coming to you from that place of 'God'liness ... but as Quakers focus on not using words wherever possible (& no sermons), you resist the urge to speak in case it is from your own ego / wanting to hear your own voice or waffle on about your own ideas etc. The 'Quaking' from the name Quakers comes from this resisting the urge to speak until such time as your body 'shakes' (quakes) with the effort of keeping the words in - at which point you can determine the words are coming from 'that of God' in you, and not your ego. It sounds all a bit esoteric now to our modern culture, I guess, but if you think of it as sitting in silence to allow the purest goodness and compassion in you to breathe into the space you create by quieting your daily egocentric thoughts, and then only getting up to speak once you've really checked with yourself that the words and intentions are coming from that purest place and not your ego. Some meetings no one speaks at all, and other meetings one or two people might speak, usually not for long, and the silence continues afterwards - it's usually philosophical insight on living more simply, more humbly, and especially upholding social justice and working non-violently for peace. There's a lot more to it than this but I'm not well enough versed in it all! What I like particularly is the non-heirarchical nature of their aproach, and the fact that their beliefs / philosophy / religion is meant to be practiced in every aspect of your life - actively working for peace and social justice, and there is even a written book for Quaker Business Practice. Back in history they formed in the UK from Christians who felt having vicars (priests), in a society of 'landed gentry' with greater rights than ordinary working people, was against the true teachings of Christ. They refused to be subservient to the ruling landed classes and were persecuted for their beliefs. Many went to the 'new world' of Amercia, and formed some of the most significant communities there - Pennsylvania for example is named after the founder William Penn, who was a Quaker. In the UK many Quaker families were successful in business, attributed somewhat to both their trustworthiness and how they treated all people (including taking a great interest in their staff). They couldn't go into professions that required you to swear an oath as they refused to do this (since they said they always spoke the truth, and to swear an oath would imply you lied at other times) - doctor, lawyer etc - so commerce was the main area left for them. Look up the history of Bourneville, for example - a chocolate company that built a whole village for their staff. The more you dig into their history in the UK and the US, the more you discover just how prominent the Quaker influence was on issues like war, conscientious objection, conscription, slavery and so on. They are still actively involved around the world in trying to bring about peace and social justice.
@@waitaminute2015 Try googling 'Religious Society of Friends' (their formal name) if nothing comes up under Quakers. I'd expect you to find them under Quakers though, or 'Quaker Monthly Meeting'.
Just saw your van tour, thank you for the TH-cam algorithm, your chanel blow up my friend! And I just subscribed, will continue to see your little journey!
I've rarely heard and seen on You Tube from vloggers such an honest, gut wrenching, and non-huckster presentation. I wondered from your presentation about your connection to your family, but from what you shared your parents have been very supportive. I just love your humble thoughtfulness, search for meaning, and willingness to go outside the box of standard conformist thinking about career and personal living. You are a remarkable young guy. I'm seriously impressed. I know someone through a friend who came from a standard, normal middle class family, discovered a specific talent and also a love for God, and entered a monastery. Just remarkable how happy he is now. This is NOT to say that Christianity is anything like "the answer." It's not. What counts, again, is that you find peace and joy in your journey along the road of life.
Engineering, interior design, sociology, psychology, cinematography, storytelling... don't worry about a career. You've got so many skills. You'll pay the bills, both financially and personally.
I am from LA also! You sound like a lonely single child with good parents. Level of ulterior motivated "friendships" never ceases to amaze me. Your parents will be there when you need someone. Dont take them for granted and I hope you make good solid friends!
We see your courage through your vulnerability! Thank you for sharing your story. Community is so important and powerful, withing you the best on your journey!
I like your spirit ! I have found " community " in my local Rotary club. Rotary is about "service above self " and I'm happiest when serving in my community. I'm 70 years old ...with 5 adult kids and currently 6 grandchildren. I'm semi-retired and living in Toronto, Canada. I'm looking forward to following your adventures !
Hey man, I don’t have any advice or insights to offer that other people in these comments haven’t already said, but just want you to know that I’m over here rooting for you! I went to school at UCSC too, and it sounds like your years in SC were as important to you as mine were to me. I hope you’re able to grow the community you’re envisioning. Good luck! Don’t give up!
You seem like a very good and honest person, can i recommend you trying out a jiu jitsu gym... I found a really good group of people who support each other and for the most part are very encouraging. Not only do you meet good people but you learn to be comfortable in very uncomfortable situations. It has helped me so much, I would hope it would do the same for you. I drop in to many gyms while on the road and they have all been very welcoming. I look forward to your next video.
When health permits, I hope to be in Santa Cruz one more time. Fond memories of the weeks I spent there every few years. The community I know best there is centered around (ex) Borland people that surely know about communities. If you love software development, try to get hold of them. Their most famous product, Delphi, is now in the hands of Embarcadero and still a lot of Borlanders are there. Good luck!
Thankyou for your story. The older you get the more you are alone and the more peace. I wish I was closer, but maybe one day I will love to meet you. God bless you.
I stumbled on your videos through an NV Facebook page. We have a 12 passenger for our family of 7 but my hope is to convert it one day when we are empty nesters (or close to it.) Currently, we live in a small town in MI. Imagine my surprise when you started talking about a church in Santa Cruz... I knew long before you gave the name which church you were reffering to. My husband and I were married there, actually, I think we were the first Vintage Faith wedding in that building after they transitioned from Santa Cruz Bible. It is a wonderful church and I'm happy you were able to make so many connections there. Thanks for that little trip down memory lane. :)
I'm 1,000x less lonely in my late 30s than my 20s.
@@BIGDAVE5352 I'd agree with you! You have a few 'friends', and many acquaintances!
👍
It’s true and I find myself spending a lot of time alone doing things I enjoy without worrying about needing someone else there
This is honestly the reason why I decided to have children.
T Smith those are wise words.
Such a wise advise.
100% Correct...from another old lady😉
True words.. to be honest most people need social interactions in their life weather in work or in private.. finding a purpose in life and a true partner will fulfilled your loneliness.. covid has stud down almost everything and its going to be another year before it will return to normal... maybe.? Best wishes to you stay strong.. from Australia sadly can't meet you but never say never. Stay safe and healthy and I hope you find what you looking for. DAVID
It's amazing how true that is. However you get to keep the memories forever.

😂😀
You are definitely going places. I've never seen a TH-camr not putting up a front. You seem so genuine. Video work outstanding!
I agree. This is definitely one of the best van builds I've ever seen. Good work!
Best wishes for everything that you do 🤗
I really appreciate your comment! I’m so grateful that you enjoyed this video, especially because it’s coming from someone that’s a part of VFC! ❤️
Yes, Evan. Like Met said, your vulnerability keeps me watching your videos. That takes courage. What a fine build you and your Dad did on your van. Great cinematography and editing.
Can't hide talent. You've got tons of it.
Honor your parents for being so supportive. Your home is beautiful and VERY well crafted. I hope to meet you in person at one of your events someday…
Me too.... Also, I make the best deviled eggs. If you're ever wanted to meet up with in Los Angele County,
yor the Southern California Beach areas for a short period of time by the beach, we can meet up and I'll share my recipe and some stories and a visual look at my 2 door Jeep life.
Deo Gratias. Lex orandi, lex credendi. God bless you
You should take camper van conversion orders
😂 how you look around before jumping at the driver’s seat .. hilarious 😆
🤣🤣🤣
Install cameras around your van, problem solved.
WOW. The first van person that had me watch from beginning to the end. You are a worthy filmmaker. I do believe this is your calling.
I felt like you were telling my story at the beginning.
Thumbs up and subscribed
yep
He did the same to me
Came across this video after 1st watching your Stealth Van tour.

feel for you.
I know you will find yours too, do not dispare.
wow iʻm inspired by you
Hey Man good on you for putting out isolation is very hard on ones self
You are such a wonderful storyteller. I can’t wait to see how your community grows. I’ll keep an eye out for you if you’re ever in San Diego.
Your parents sound like they are wonderful people. You can be grateful that your dad took his time to build that fantastic van with you. :)
I know how you feel. I was like you when I was living in Australia by myself for work. I kept staying in the church community in the City. The feel of belonging and friendship will keep you grounded. Keep the faith😊
Love the way you open up your mind to me and how much love and blessings you wanted to share with the world from South Africa 🇿🇦 🙏❤️💯
“I found belonging in a group I wasn’t supposed to belong in” what a great quote
I hope you will find your purpose/community soon.
he doesn "like" ur comments. Perhaps because bit ahead and aware of the "mood"
This was awesome also just stumbled on his chancel. Shoutout to people like youuu
wow that last part is so incredible. it's true, you can feel lonely around others.
You tell a story well, Evan. My boyfriend and I don’t have any friends. We have tried. I think we may hang up flyers like you did. We live in Florida. If you ever come down, please let us know. I enjoyed your video. You seem like a very nice person.
My wife and I are in a similar situation. Florida and no real friends to hang out with.
Florida here too. Near Sarasota.
Awesome video, Evan! Thanks so much for sharing your story. Can't wait to see what the future holds!
You have great, supportive folks. And I know you are grateful for that blessing. They helped you find your independence. You are growing up.
You are a rare specimen. You have a deep understanding of both engineering and sociology as they apply to your life. You're romantic AND classical. You're super smart and I love smart people and other people do too. Just keep killin it dude. It should fall into place.
Thanks for sharing and being so open and real with us. Stay blessed brother 🙏
I'm certain you'll be successful in your community building endeavors as well.
right? he is so talented he should continue those videos!
Great! Inspiring! Evan, Wishing you all the best!
Mad respect for being in touch with finding your "why"... most people don't figure that out till it is already too late. Very inspiring! Keep it up!
@@StoriesFromaVan Don't take their love and support for granted. You are fortunate to have such caring parents not everyone does.
You’re amazing and a great inspiration to me and my friends. Keep doing your best and sharing your life to everyone here on your channel.
Amazing life story Evan, being with people is important, we are all social creatures.
Keep at it, and you will never be alone.
thank you for capturing the essence of humanity---the need to feel connected
Your story telling, videos and editing plus your van conversions.. you are so talented and amazing
You and your Dad did an amazing job on the van. I hope you are doing well.
The camper van is really great ingenuity and craftmansship. Congratulations.
This video is great film making. Nice shots and fotography.
This is absolutely beautiful and you are absolutely right. Thank you.
@ Pasta Diana Verhulst. Thank you so muck for your love and encouragement 🥰
Man your story is really inspiring. Love the content, your van setup is sick!
Your dad is a true friend...
@@emmaslow The way in which you described the Quaker religion, philosophies, and way of life completely resonates with me.
@@emmaslow how does one go about finding them?
Loving, wonderfully great parents you have! They understood and made it happen for you!!!!!

I wish you all the best, love what you share, your energy, something of a new world that is appearing all over the world !
Praying for you Evan! 🚐
More content!!! Your a great creator!! Would love to see a van build video if possible , you and your dad are really good craftsman...
Well wishes from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. All the best. You know you have a friend in Malaysia.
Love Stern Grove in the morning. So quiet and chill.
I think you are a very brave guy. Big love for the UK.
Wow that’s amazing!! Did Dan Kimball officiate your wedding? Or was it Josh Fox?
Feeling for you man. Thanks for sharing.
It can be hard to fill the void. If you ever want to reach out I'm here
