Ghetto in the Villages. Management doesn't care, they got your money and do very little after all this time. This is a very sad situation indeed!

@Ron Seguin It's absolutely incredible that people are so foolish as to buy a house built on this particular geology which is a Swiss cheese honeycomb made of dissolving carbonate! This area of Florida has the worst possible type of sinkholes. They are catastrophic!
And the baloney about filling them in? LOL. That is only temporary because the entire substructure is dissolving!

It had been predicted years ago that the state of Florida will be swallowed up - in time.

Old man Schwartz made his fortune, and his heirs don't give a damned now. I lived one mile away back in 1993 and worked in The Villages. I watched how they build those houses. You couldn't give me a house there for free. Particle board exposed too long to moisture and rain during the building process, then covered with fake, sprayed on stucco that later peels off in sections a foot or two long. I watched a resident nearly have a stroke because a gold cart driving past her lost a Styrofoam cup off the back ..... the place is not the mecca it is advertised as. They paint stamp the driveways hideous colors and pretty soon algae and moss are growing all over it, turning black. It's not paradise folks.
Just a mile south on highway 27, a sinkhole opened up and ate a section of the highway big enough to swallow a house. It took forever to make new lanes to reroute traffic and get that hole filled. Florida is just a giant swamp.

You wanted to live in Florida. lol Florida: Where you are on the food chain too. In FLorida, you can be eaten alive in the water by sharks, on land by gators, and by the land itself. Florida: sinkhole central.

Have lived in Florida 42 years and in Illinois, North Carolina and Georgia. Will take Florida over many states, especially California. We do not have terrible fires, earthquakes. The state is well managed by competent governors. Pension funds are in solid shape-so many wonderful things about Florida. And calling The Villages a “ghetto” is laughable. Has nothing to do with “management.” Mother Nature and the holding company who now has those houses are the culprits.

@@judithdasta3969 still you can't deny the fact that Florida is a giant sinkhole due to geology. Once you have a sinkhole in a neighborhood, or on your property, you lose the value of hard earned money. I have lived in florida for 2 years. But I was not aware of the sinkholes back then, else I would not be able to sleep at night. lol

Less trees to help the land

annnnd the increased ebbs & flows during global warming (+ back-pressure from coastal salt-water intrusion) will fracture more of these limestone cells in the near and far future. Some will be dry sinkholes, but when fresh-water springs enter then the expansion consumption of surrounding land tends to be greater (thus attempt at filling in those sinkholes usually isn't even an option).
