The importance of the story notwithstanding, the film "Spotlight" displays the finest direction, acting, writing and editing that I have seen I have seen in any recent motion picture and was we'll deserving of the "Best Picture" Academy Award. This film was superior in those respects to the more recent film, "The Post" -- a good film but not in the same league.
I remember a living daily hell called catholic grade school where the principal vehemently hated anyone of Italian descent and hated me the most because a friend of the family taught there. Weekly beatings verbal berating and the punishment position: I had to stand as far back as I could and lean on my pinky fingers on the wall supporting my full weight balancing an eraser or ruler on my nose, when it dropped I was beaten repeditive punches till I did it again. In the 8th grade I put a stop to it throwing this devil up against the wall telling her not to touch me again. Since I feel that the church may have cost both my parents their souls I've since left that organization. Any clergy in Pittsburgh reading this, if that witch is still alive I would like a direct confrontation and a note even the nuns and priests who were good to the kids why did you let this abuse go on, you are as guilty as the perpetrator who abused many others even driving one kid to suicide.
The most important point, it's true the globe had been given the information and ignored it, but when Marty Baron came in and saw that this situation was going on and nobody was investigating it he took it up and make sure the truth was found. Without Marty Barron and his excellent approach to investigative journalism the story would never have been told and there would be no movie. That's pretty obvious. Before Marty Baron the globe was afraid of the church and intimidated by it but he was not.
i so hope that this movie wins best Picture at the oscar, not just because it is the best movie of 2015, but also so more people are aware of this issue.

They used real priests names too in the movie? I guess after the Spotlight article, what's the Catholic Church gonna do. I'm all for outing these bastards. I am sorry for what happened to you and whatever emotional baggage you carry from it. Wish you nothing but happiness.

The ones who are not abusive are shielding the ones who are. They are supporting the institution that is covering up the abuse of children. Families should stop delivering their children to these abusers.

The way the real Garabedian didn't cooperate with Tucci makes sense because in the movie, the character was almost totally not cooperating.
Too busy! A man on a never ending mission!
It made me laugh 😆😆
“I’m a very busy man, Mr. Rezendes. 😤”
"The man's got a character"
This was one of the best interviews I've ever seen conducted.
why does everyone think this kiss-up interviewer is the bomb?
wow the actor playing salviano was amazing!!!
Completely nailed him. The voice is almost identical.
Facial expression, the way he looks up, sudden moves... I appreciate Saviano and wish he were still with us.
There are so many heroes in this story. The spotlight team, Garabedian, Phil Saviano, and all the victims that came forward. God Bless you all.
AND ..... The 10% priests!!!

Interviewer: You didn’t talk to the actor portraying you?
Garabedian: I got priorities. >:(
Tucci definitely nailed the character down well.
The actor who portrays Saviano in Spotlight nailed his portrayal sounded just like him, WOW!!
Indeed. Completely nailed him.
With his passing, the world has lost a real hero. Heaven has gained a saint. Thank you Phil.
What, he died, what happened?
@@cathleenwarner1778 Phil passed away due to cancer late November 2021.
Good men. Cannot believe the church is still covering it up. Sick. I had to find out about Canon law. He is dead on.
Wow! The actors Really Nailed these ppl in every instance...
Very helpful context to the story; asked and answered some questions I had from the film.

The message is clear - keep your kids away from the church.
Keep your kids away from priests, ministers, pastors, rabbis etc. They are all in the Brotherhood of Thieves and Rapists. And they are liars.
NOT THE CHURCH. FROM EVIL. Teach them the right from wrong. !

Okay so the diocese doesn't want to face the truth? I myself was a bused by a priest. So was my brother. I think its time the diocese hears about it.

With all these cover ups from the Catholic church ,, I didnt hear one Priest that is put to jail!!
Didn't Spotlight bust the Catholic Church again shuffling priests?
Evil has a foothold within the Catholic Church. Where are the righteous?
They are suffering quietly and often in denial.
