  • Hey everyone, today I'll be addressing what score you might need to get on the UCAT to get an interview to medicine somewhere in Australia.
    In general, 2800 is cutting it fine, 2900 should get you an interview somewhere and 3000 is good.

    not meaning to scare anyone but I got a 2730 despite getting several 3000+ on my mocks. I did around 30 mocks while reviewing them in total. My DM mark dropped severely to 660 which let me down. I got threw by one or two sets in QR which let me down and wasted time (didn’t happen in my prep), and i guessed around a third of the questions.
    VR- 670
    DM- 660
    QR-720
    AR- 680
    Honestly, i feel as tho the day before i should’ve done a mock. Cause on the day I didn’t feel as sharp as i felt during my prep cause of not looking at those type of questions for a while.

      I feel you one hundred percent bro, I get around 2800 to 2900 on my mocks but ended up getting 2750 on my test. DM was normally my strongest subset and I rarely got anything wrong but the test DM section was mighty difficult. As an international student in Australia I am aware that perhaps our scoring is a bit different but stay hopeful and still apply to the uni you want.

I’m seeing a lot of people say that their scores were lower than their prep so hopefully the percentiles are lower this year. I’m hoping for an 80

      Have a careful look at the mistakes you're making and identify problems that you can actively work to fix. Usually these are things like specific question types or timing issues, so once you find them, focus your study on improving those things!

    if getting a higher atar compensates a lower UCAT, does the same principal apply with university GPA. eg a higher GPA compensates a lower UCAT score ?

    Hey Emil, love your videos and the high quality information you provide. I am a year 12 student in SA and dropped the subject English since I decide to do a vet course, hence I cannot apply interstate. Therefore the only two universities I can apply to are Flinders (10% ucat, 90% ATAR, no interview) and Adelaide University (UCAT:Interview:ATAR --> 20:40:40, interview given based on UCAT) which offer medicine.
    Based on my current grades and 5 extra aggregate points due to the university equity scheme for which my school is eligible, I believe I can get a 97+. However, I am not too confident about my UCAT (sitting in 23 days). Based on the university entry requirements, which university should be my first preference you suggest? Also the UCAT cut off is like 70th percentile for students in SA.
    Thanks :)

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for the comment. Since you get your UCAT results on test day, I reccomend that you wait to do your UCAT, then get your results and decide which uni you want to put as your first preference.
      If you do well on the UCAT, put Adelaide University as your first pref, if you don't do as well, put Flinders as your first pref. Hope that helps :)

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m really sorry but I don’t know much about NZ applicants - I assume you’d be considered the same way an interstate applicant would be considered in Australia. I’m making a video soon about the application process, so stay tuned for that!

    • @EmilEddy

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need ATAR, UCAT and Interview. Each is weighted 1/3. ATAR usually above 98 and UCAT above 2800. Depends on whether you're an interstate or rural applicant as well

      @@johndscnite8717 right, so your atar is your A-level equivalent. If you have your A-levels, you probably won't need an ATAR, but you should check how your scores scale over to the atar system because you need quite high marks

      It is possible. I’ve been accepted to study Medicine at KCL with a UCAT score of 2280 😅 and there is a TH-camr and FY1 Doctor called Natasha Binnie who got a score of 2296. You don’t always have to be in the top 10% to receive an offer.
      Also, I had mediocre grades and completed an Access to Medicine course so it’s not like I had advantages in any other areas.
