I watch this beautiful video often and I am still moved by the wonderfull tribute to the late Liam. His singing of Will You Go Lassie Go is absolkutely brilliant and will never be equalled. R.I.P. Liam.
When I was 17, before I left my native country, I sang Parting Glass a hundred times. That was over forty years ago, I never went back to live, and I still treasure this song. Many, many thanks to the Clancy brothers.
Of all the entertainers that have passed, I find it difficult to imagine Liam dead; He was so full of life; and never got off the stage so to speak. I had the privilage of meeting him and many times saw him perform as both solo artiste and with Tommy Makem, never agarn again will we see their like. thanks for the footage, it allows us that couldn't be there in person to witness the fine send off.
Absolutely glorious! That’s how it should be! Partings are temporary! Thank you for sharing these holy harmonies! Till we meet, never more to part; God Bless!✨🤍✨
Who wouldn't want to have a 'send-off' like this of their own? I tell my friends and family, when I die, I want them to drink and sing, and wail and cry and party, all at once. The saddest part of having a good memorial like this one, is the departed doesn't get to be there to witness just how important and loved he/she was.
one more time this old Scotsman is moved to tears by Liam Clancy ,who with his family and Tommy Makem were the High Kings of Ireland !! I was thrilled to hear them live in concert , and they are in my heart always, Albainn gu brath agus Eirinn gu brath
These men were flagship of our country ,long before it was fashionable to be Irish ,God Bless all the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem Lord have mercy on there souls
Just so nice to revisit this, great farewell to Liam. Never forgotten always in our hearts. Thanks too to all the Clancy Brothers for giving us some of the great pleasures of life - SONGS AND MUSIC.
Robert, I am a Clancy Brothers fan since my late uncle, a bookseller of note, loaned me his Clancy Brothers LPs in the 1970s. I have been meaning to read Liam's autobiographical memoir, The Mountain of Worms; here it is via Google Books. books.google.com/books?id=0t2qRQUSmbQC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Liam+Clancy&hl=en&sa=X&ei=XFM6VaKPBJKxsATwioCADw&ved=0CB4Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=Liam%20Clancy&f=false
189 comments! I'm now 190 and it's amazing how little some know of Liam and his band of gypsy's. Grew up in Rockaway, NY, Irish riviera and at 16 frequented the bars and although the Beatles, Stones, Grateful Dead were permeated in our brains. the Irish bars had Sinatra, Dean and various other artists but the Clancy Brothers we played and played often. Saw them in concert and listen to them now often. Music is eternal, far more than this poster so Liam, Tommy, Patrick and Tom Makem we're still listening and you're still a part of my life and I'm sure many others as well. Pax!!
I was there that day. It's a good video, but I'll always remember each drop of rain landing like they were all placed in the moment in the middle of the singing and the fantastic rainbow that came. It was a very deep, beautiful and spiritual moment as though Liam was performing his final bit of theatre.
Just so nice, a great tribute. Ah Liam we still hear your voice, your songs. Thanks Liam for all the pleasure that you gave us with your singing, your great songs, your great music.
one of the most powerful funeral I have ever seen.... the day in fare future when its my time to go I wish the people would sing similar powerful songs at my grave
I met Liam Clancy in An Ring back in the late 90's. I can tell you that he was a good and decent man, full of fun, life, and vision for Ireland and the world. Mooneys Pub, I think it was called. A terrific man, with young people who admired him greatly. Teaching them all about the nature and reason of song.
RIP Liam. Thank you for your love of our culture and your ability and talent to bring out to the masses in your songs..I have been enjoying your music for almost 50 years now. this crazy world was a better place with you in it and you will be greatly missed. my condolances to your family.
I don't know how he could sing it, I'm bawling like a baby singing it now all these years later. Grew up hearing them almost every day as a child and we we listen to them now at Christmas along with the next generation of kids.
The person singing it on the microphone is my father who was a good friend of Liam who's name is also Liam we had many a session with Liam and Donal in Ring County Waterford was a sad day for music in Ireland may he rest in peace
What a perfect graveside service for this wonderful and talented man. I can think of no finer tribute. Thank you for the music, Liam and your brothers and Tommy as well.
My Dad introduced me to the Clancy brothers - He loved them and he died 10 months after Liam at age 75. So my Dad and Liam are probably having a great ol chat up there! Rest in Peace Dad and Mr Clancy with much love Karen. xoxox
I did not know your son or your brother or your father but I loved him as much as my own blood. His talent has touched and held me for many many years. His talent will be with me for always and I reach for it nightly.I send all my comfort and I hope you send it back. God I do miss the man!!!!!
Liam Clancy , Paddy Clancy and Tom Clancy along with Tommy Makem made up one of the all-time great singing groups. I first saw them on Ed Sullivan's show in the late 1960's. My family fell in love with their music and humor. We looked into their background and found out they came from the same region of Ireland as did my family many years ago. We discovered, that we were 2nd or 3rd cousins. During our lifetime and their years of performing here in the USA we had the honor of seeing them and meeting them after some of the shows. All of them were wonderful; especially to my aging mother. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day ... Erin Go Braugh ... "Slainte" !!!
Oh, what a shock to me to discover this 4 months after his death! Liam was one of my few living legends. RIP, Liam, you'll live forever in your lovely songs.
I travelled to Piltown from Dublin on the day and regret not going the further mile to pay my respects. Jesus what a man. I brought my twice widowed mam to see him in the NCH and he delivered his beauty and voice only masters can dream of .
I watch this and cry............ we were in carrick last year and paid our respect to the man. we also saw him the year before in dublin perform......... Thank you for sharing this
WHAT A GREAT TRIBUTE TO A GREAT MAN AND A TRUE ICON ,IM LEBANESE AND I JUST LOVE ALL OF LIAMS SONGS HE TRULY TOUCHED A LOT OF PEOPLE,,,,,,,,,,,SING AND GO IN PEACE LIAM,,,,,,,FROM BEIRUT LEBANON SAM AWADA...........
Catherine Murphy: I'm an Aussie - and as a kid learnt his songs by heart from his LPs - I'm nearing 50 now, and I still sing them! I learnt that music crosses all boundaries of culture or race. Thanks Liam: a true legend! 👍
Thank you Janette, it all happened so spontaneously and I was just lucky to be there and have my camera at hand. BTW (to ENYRB), the guy in the middle is a Clancy, Finbar, a nephew of Liam's and a son of Bobby's....he's now with The High Kings, continuing on a great tradition.
for ever in the harts of all irish people,i can only say thank you mr clancy for all the memorys of when my family sang your songs, and to see these people sing load and proud brings feelings of joy R.I.P
I had not heard until just now that Liam is no longer with us. I am tearful, which is no mean feat for this old bugger. Vale, Liam. I treasure your memory and that amazing concert in Brisbane 1976. Greg
Just visited Liam`s grave to pay my respects. It was something I just had to do, it`s hard to believe a man that brought such joy to so many and did so much in his life is now silent. The graveyard is on the way into Ring on the right, it cant be missed.
Thanks again to our Celtic cousins ,the Scots ,without whom we Irish would hardly have a song to sing at all.......You write them and we will sing them.......
What a fitting tribute to a man who left a mark that will live on for many, many years. I'll always remember the tribute he did for Luke Kelly, such a touching speech. Thanks for the upload, it's a very touching scene.
after watching this a few times I realized the singer leading 'Lassie' is Finbarr Clancy, nephew of Liam (and Paddy, son of Bobby) and now a terrific lead member/founder of the High KIngs group...carrying on wonderfully, bit less hair these days :)
I am shocked to learn just now of Liam's death ! I must be dead myself not to have heard abot this ? . My parents loved his music and I have listened to The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem for 50 years ! RIP.
Zachary HAMILTON Back in 1998 my friends and I sang this song at our friend's funeral. He always loved the parting glass. We were all eighteen years old. In fact my friend was eighteen for two whole days. We were on a feral pig hunt in Texas and a 278 boar charged him and got him. I got busted up in the process trying to get the boar off of him. I owe his brother my life because I needed a blood transfusion he was the same type. They could have been singing this song for me if it wasn't for him
A fitting send off for one of the best Irish singers there will ever be
I have just watched this video. I was very touched. What an Irish farewell. ❤❤❤❤
I watch this beautiful video often and I am still moved by the wonderfull tribute to the late Liam. His singing of Will You Go Lassie Go is absolkutely brilliant and will never be equalled. R.I.P. Liam.
The best Irish ballad singer I've ever heard. Rest in God's peace, Liam Clancy.
This is how to do it. My daughter played this on concertina for my brother at his funeral. Great send off as he was massive clancy brother fan
Thank God the Irish can sing sad songs for the rest of the world.
+Daniel Schaller The Irish understand somber songs very well. It likely has to do with hardships in their history I'd suppose.
sorry
bob davenport singer
I imagine the alcohol helps.
All their wars are happy and all their songs are sad.
I swear I'm not crying. I just have something in my eyes. Oh, who am I kidding. I'm bawling right now.
Me too mate.😊
So am I
Same here. Darn onions....
When I was 17, before I left my native country, I sang Parting Glass a hundred times. That was over forty years ago, I never went back to live, and I still treasure this song. Many, many thanks to the Clancy brothers.

Liam was always "on stage" so to speak, always happy to recite a poem , sing a song, or tell a good story. Rest in peace Liam.
Miss him too
Just so nice to revisit this, great farewell to Liam. Never forgotten always in our hearts. Thanks too to all the Clancy Brothers for giving us some of the great pleasures of life - SONGS AND MUSIC.
I just discovered Liam Clancy's music this morning. Was saddened to learn he had passed on. May his Spirit live On For Ever!

Just a great guy, not many people my age would listen to the Clancys but i love listening to them, especially Liam what a character. Rip man.

You will be very welcome . Come when we are out of lock down
A Great soul, sorely missed, never, ever to be forgotton, but recalled with a smile and the kind of love of a brother.
Some man for one man. Liam singing Waltzing Matilda is probably one of the finest renditions of a ballad I have ever heard.
I don't know how he could sing it, I'm bawling like a baby singing it now all these years later. Grew up hearing them almost every day as a child and we we listen to them now at Christmas along with the next generation of kids.

Hi Ben, I uploaded this almost 5 years ago and sang the Parting Glass at my father's funeral three years later.
A great farewell to a great singer and a marvellous fascinating man.

Where but in Ireland can mourners sing at the graveside of the one they all loved?
May his memory be Eternal along with yours Charles Comer.
