That's a womdwrdul journey. I joined The Rift to see the Land of Ice this summer. Would like to see more of it after the event. Thanks for sharing this.
Now this is the right way to travel. What makes it soo special is from the uncomfortable wet cold miserable hungry to the perfect days and views done it in Kerry but would love to return to iceland and visit the Highlands in the North of iceland
No frills all thrills. Gives me a lot of hope watching this kind of high quality content coming from someone that's clearly not just tapped into their Dad's bank account and invested about 10 grand in gear. Yet to venture out on my first bike-backing trip, hoping to go once we're out of lockdown but have been a bit trepidatious about it as I can't afford a bike upgrade or much new gear. Watching this makes me think fuck it, I'm going as soon as I can!
Dam right allot of affordable travel is being able look out for affordable flights ..my two way flights to Iceland cost me less than 100 euro and planned the trip super last minute and allot of the dry bags and small pieces of gear I made myself
Mate, that was incredible. The video is amazing and the way you have of telling the story is excellent. Thank you so much for sharing it and congratulations for reaching that adventure, really inspiring. Cheers!
Mate this has been the best thing have watched in ages, real backpacking the pain and joy and ..er pain, thank you so much for making this, more power to you
I live here in Iceland, I have been travelling all over my island in a modified 4x4 over the years, both in summer and winter. I am pretty sure you saw some specimens of our trucks on your traverse of our island. I took up cycle touring a few years back to rediscover my tiny island in a whole new way. It is a totally new experience. Although few things beat travelling over a glacier in the dead of winter on a properly built 4x4, then the slower pace of a bicycle, fully exposed to the elements is a whole other thing. Happy that you enjoyed yourself here, you are welcome back for more type 2 fun. We have plenty of it. :)
thanks soo much in definitely will be returning either on foot or bicycle and yes there was definitely moments where i envied the people in vehicles with heating and comfortable seats
Great video! We had the same trip planned for this August but because of the 'rona we've had to postpone it one year. Watching this video makes me want it even more.
You’re an inspiration mate 🙌🏼 about to ride through the Australian outback just over 2000kms during this hot summer.... this is absolutely the polar opposite 🙌🏼 stunning
Since my girlfriend crossed iceland on horseback i see these trips through an other pare of sunglases. And now as i switched from mountainclimbing to bikepacking i am dreaming myself away. So I thank you a lot, for sharing your adventure with me. Loved it!
Dude amazing! Sorry I skimmed the comments but couldn’t see anyone asked. 1 what cameras did you use to film everything. 2 what tent pegs would you recommend for a tunnel tent in Iceland? Thanks dude
I filmed with a a73 sony and a gopro And for this trip I used a pretty basic aluminium shepherd hook design of peg but a v peg might be better for traction in sandy conditions
What a great video!! I live in Iceland and I have been wanting to ride across the highland. One of my option is to fit some 29×2.1 tires on my Trek 520 but I was not sure if that would be to brutal, especially since it has no suspension. From the video it looks like your tire are not that wide. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this :)
Hey Ruaini! Amazing video, thanks so much for sharing. My boyfriend and myself are preparing for a similar trip in a few months, and I was wondering which gas stove you used for this trip? and how did you get the gaz? Cheers!
Great film, Please may I ask what date of the year did you start out on? and if you were to do it again would a South to North traverse be better to have the head winds on your back? or where the winds from all directions? Thanks
I believe it was early September and I think while I did experience pretty serious headwinds . Did also experience allot of pretty intense tailwind that' helped me on occasion so I'm not sure ..also theres allot more huts and hiking routes towards the end of the route around the southern coast which are a good to get food resupply if needed
@@Brokenrobotproductions Many thanks, something to plan after all this Covid is over eh? I rode there several years back but not in the north. Looks like it's perfect for another trip with the Fat Bikes again
@@JohnClimber yeah definitely met a cyclist on a road touring bike who had spent four days riding just trying to get to the first hut ..and had almost completely destroyed one of his rims ..definitely supple is the name of the game on that terrain
Great trip man. Good job and really well documented! Great inspiration for bikers. Could you please advise which camera you used to record it? Footage look pretty good! I’m impressed! Greetings.
Amazing video mate. I went to Iceland for a ride a few years back but route changed so quick due to winds...now find myself looking to head back and do the North South Divide. Two questions: Did you use local buses to get to start / from finish? How many days do you think the route is doable in?
@@Brokenrobotproductions Much appreciated. Were there any sections / roads that were particularly slow going? I'm just looking at routing but finishing in Selfoss rather than Vik.
Which route was this? Sprengisandur? I cycled across the Sprengisandur route 30 years ago, doesn't look like it's changed much, except I don' t think there were any huts on it then. Nice name, by the way, 😂.
Fantastic films Ruairi! Good effort on narrating the experience too ...even if it was more for your own sanity! I'm curious what tire size you were running and if it was adequate for the terrain? Many videos exclusively show fat bikes or plus tires... Cheers!
Well I was running a plus tire and in terms of traction I had plenty .I even met a guy who had cycled a portion of the route on a 700c but had found it very difficult ...the worst part of the terrain is the wavey up and down bumps on the road that in some places go on for miles and miles and will really tire out your arms
hey man awesome video!! I've been planning on doing a cycle tour trip of iceland interior for a couple of years but have been up off because I can't seem to find a reliable timetable for the buses travelling the exterior route. Any tips for organising this or a help with how you went about planning your route?
to be honest used a combination of google searches on my phone and reading bus timetables at bus stops to find buses .generally they were prompt if a little infrequent but very accommodating to cyclists my route started in Akureyri heading south east I stuck to the f26 road for the majority of the trip until it ended and i cut across Heckla national park and joined the main coast ring road heading west to the town of Vik where i stayed a night in a reasonably priced campsite and caught a bus to Reykjavik the following day
What a trip man, difficult, challenging, I'm sure you had to dig deep in your mind at times to keep going but it was all worth it at the end. Congrats and keep making these films, really well done. I'll be heading to Iceland in June to either right the ring road or cross it north to south, what month did you go? Looked cold out there. What bike would you recommend for the north south trek. Thank you!
I'm getting prep for this kind rides . Just done 20km ride in one day one cycle with no gear 😌 buts hurts 😂 .I need gear shift cycle. Hopefully one day might be able to go on a Viking lands pedel Hard and have Life best moments .
