    Your comment on RF interference gave me the clue to my troubleshooting. Initially, I thought my wireless keypad was not working, but I was not able to reset the password. Then, I realized that remote only works in close proximity to my liftmaster unit. Then, I watched this video that the root cause is the RF interference.
    Then, I realized I changed the bulb to LED yesterday. Once I swappes the bulb back to old style incandescent bulb, everything is working now. Thank you again!

    It was the lock button for me. Other sources were telling me two flashes meant the wires were shorted or disconnected. Thanks for setting it straight.

    Thanks! This video saved me a $80 service call. I followed the instructions and was able to determine the wall unit was defective and still under warranty. Switched it out with the company that had installed it and the new one works great. Took me 10 mins following the instructions given. Best video on this subject!

    I just got a 55 dollar service call refund after paying a local garage door company to come out. They told me the logic board was fried and I needed to replace the whole unit...rails and all... for 499.00 plus tax!!! I told them I needed to think on it, saw this video, then unplugged and replugged my unit. Now I have a working door and a company I shamed for stealing my money! Thank you!

    Thank you for the great instructions. This worked for one of my units but not the other. For any future viewers, it should be this simple. If it's not, and you've already changed the battery in your remote, then you most likely need to replace the logic board in the motor

    I had two remotes that come with my Craftsman garage door opener that stopped working and was able to revive them. It turns out that the buttons inside where dirty and not making a connection. To fix this problem all I did was to remove the small circuit card and soaked it in 91% isopropyl alcohol for about 10 minutes. I blew them dry with compressed air, reassembled and then successfully reprogrammed all 3 buttons. Try this before buying a new remote.

    Finally ! Took me 2 freaking MONTHS to figure out that Walmart sold me an incorrect battery (it being only 3 volts when 6 was required).....Your tip at 2:40 re: reprogramming the motherboard, also helped immensely. I was just going completely nuts when the 2-step instructions were failing to work ""Push and hold transmitter button. Push and hold receiver button until flashing stops." Or something like that and it was failing to work !....Then I went - Wait a minute - Why did this transmitter have TWO 3 volt batteries in it ? And what does the ONE Walmart sold me say on it ?....3 volts ! Anyways - Long story short ? It is working again !

    All my remotes work on garage door number 1 so I know it is fine. But they stopped working on door #2. But the button on the inside of the door operates the door #2 just fine. No lock on the key pad either. (Older model) Also it will no longer accept new remotes by reprogramming it.

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try erasing all codes on door opener No. 2 and then reprogramming the remotes. If that doesn’t fix the problem, a weak remote battery may be affecting door opener No. 2 but not door opener No. 1. Replacing the batteries in all remotes may fix the problem. If not, then the logic board on door opener No. 2 may be defective.

My garage door opener stopped working out of the blue and nothing works, from cara, from remote controls that we don't use because of the home link systems. The remotes work only if I put the remote close to the garage opener, antenna looks okay and I haven't added any electronic or electric stuff recently? I can program one remote but not a second remote. When I program a 2nd remote it works but it disables the first remote and vice-versa. It seems that the model I have will only program one of the remotes but not two at a time. Why is that? I have followed the instructions and watched several videos but nothing is working to get both remotes programmed, only one. The wall control does not have a lock button feature yet the green light on the wall contol is blinking, which I interpret to mean the lockout feature is enabled. How can I disable the lockout feature if I do not have a lock button on the wall control ?

    I purchased home with a Craftsman garage door opener Model 139.53924. The keypad opens and closes the door and so does the pad at the door. Portable remotes will not open or close door. I have changed batteries, purchased a new remote, both have 2032 batteries. I have reprogrammed the remotes, erased the codes, reprogrammed the opener, checked all wiring, sensors have power and no obstructions and everything recommended in your videos. I have not checked the logic board or the antenna. The light on the motor does light but has never blinked when trying to program. I have done the 30 second and 6 second process a number of times. The operation of the garage door works fine otherwise.

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Erase all codes and try programming the new remote first. You’ll likely need to program the new remote differently from the older remote because the new remote is likely a universal model. Here’s a video that explains how to program the remotes, including the universal models: th-cam.com/video/CoO2IMFd3Gk/w-d-xo.html . If you can program the new remote then try programming the older remote. If the older remote won’t program, then it’s likely broken. Let us know if you need more help after trying these tips.

    • @donbedore1915
      @donbedore1915 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have looked at several videos and tried again. The lights won't blink at all. The outside pad works fine and I was able to set an access number. The pad on the walk in door seems to work fine also. The opener light works with both pads and when waking past sensors lights work but when programming the lights have never blinked. I'm going to give it another try after watching your last video. Thanks.

    On one side of the garage the door button operates the garage door opener fine, but the learn button does not learn, period, neither with remotes with new batteries nor with my auto's homelink system. I tried unplugging the Crafstman 1/2 HP, waiting 30 seconds and then reconnecting, but that didn't work either. On the other side of the garage, the same unit works perfectly. Any suggestions?

  • @BruceBolbat

    I can only program one of three portable garage door openers to work on three openers. All three wall controllers work fine. The other two portable controllers seem to set the signal (lights flash), but won't open or close the doors on any of my three garage door openers. I have reset the openers, canceled and reprogrammed all three portable controllers, but only one portable controller actually works. So, I bought two new controllers that are supposed to work on these doors. They seem to also set the signal (lights flash to set), but they don't open or close any of the three doors. I removed any and all RF signal noise-producing devices. Any suggestions?

    I was adjusting the up and down knobs and when it close, got stuck and now it makes an humming sound everytime I push the button. Is stuck. What do I do?

  • @lou-nc4rc
    @lou-nc4rc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have tried everything you suggested, reprogramming, unplugging, different opener that does work on another garage door won't work even when programmed, new remote battery. But if the logic board is faulty on this older Craftsman unit, why does the opener attached to an inside wall of the garage still open the door, but the handheld remotes will not. Seems like if the logic board is bad, nothing should open the door.

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The logic board includes the radio frequency receiver that detects the remotes’ signals. The logic board won’t open or close the garage door if it doesn’t detect remote signals because its receiver failed. The wall control on the inside of your garage is hard-wired to the logic board. The signals travel through the wires instead of through the air via radio frequencies. That could be why the garage door opener works using the wall control but not the remotes.

    • @lou-nc4rc
      @lou-nc4rc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for answering. Guess I should have figured that out myself. But now the question is whether the logic board can be replaced on this very old unit. Has a date of 3/96 on it, Sears Canada, even though I am in the southern U.S. Model No. 139. 53648SRT. Can't complain about something this old still working. Trouble is it is a double garage and the other opener looks even older to me and screeches. Repairman on the phone said worn out part was not worth replacing, took too much time, get a new opener. That one does not even have an obvious way to program an opener, no green button.
      So, no funds to replace both openers. If the logic board on first one can't be replaced, I'll replace the other opener. Only one car in the garage anyway.
      Wish I thought the new units would last this long. Nothing does anymore. Went thru 3 microwaves in four years. Toaster oven last a couple of years, then kaflooey.

    • @lou-nc4rc
      @lou-nc4rc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Checked the Sears parts for this model and the logic board is no longer available. Not surprising considering the age of the unit. So, that answers my question. Logic board cannot be replaced.

    Is there a limit to the number of remote you can program?

    Still hunting for a solution; remote doesn't work only when the garage light is on. It's not an LED bulb, have reprogrammed the remote and have replaced the battery. Can't find a source of RF interference. Remote does work when the opener light is off, but will not work when the opener light is on. Have also tried using when no bulb is in, no dice. Looking for advice.

    My opener works but the wall button will not make the garage door go up or down. The light on the wall unit flashes indicating it is locked. Holding down the small button does not cause the button to go steady. If I hold the button down the light still continues to flash but now the remote doesn't work. I do it again and the remote does work but the wall button doesn't work in any scenario and continues to flash. Any tips

      If your garage door opener has a battery back-up in the motor unit, check the electrical power going to the garage door opener by plugging a light or small appliance into the garage door opener’s electrical outlet to make sure it works. If not, reset the house circuit breaker for the garage door opener because the breaker likely tripped.
      If the outlet the garage door opener is plugged into works, unplug the garage door opener and disconnect the battery to completely kill power for the opener for 1 minute to reset the opener’s logic board. Restore power and see if the wall control works.
      If the wall control still blinks, try locking and unlocking the wall control several times. After several tries, the wall control may unlock.
      If these tips don’t help, use the troubleshooting tips in this video to troubleshoot the wall control: www.searspartsdirect.com/article/garage-door-opener-wall-control-troubleshooting-video.html. If the wall control still won’t work, you may need to replace the wall control.

    I just had a new motor installed for a garage door. It came with 2 programmed remote however I would like to program my universal ones too. I went through the steps in the manual however the universal remotes won't pair with the new logic board. The universal remote worked on the previous garage door and the batteries aren't dead. What should I do?

      Make sure that you're pressing the recessed button on the back of the universal remote when you're attempting to link the universal remote to the new motor unit. Here's a video/article that shows how to program universal remotes: www.searspartsdirect.com/article/how-to-program-garage-door-opener-remotes-video.html If you're following the correct procedure to program the universal remotes but they won't link to the new motor unit, then there's a possibility that universal remotes aren't compatible with the new motor unit's logic board. The universal remotes work with most Craftsman models that begin with numbers 139. If the model number of your motor unit begins with 200 (such as 200.57933) then the universal remotes aren't compatible. You'll need to buy remotes compatible with the new motor unit if the universal remotes aren't compatible with the motor unit that you just installed. If you need help checking compatibility of the universal remotes with the new motor unit, let us know the model number of the new motor unit.

    Original remotes lost. Adjacent opener in garage remote attempted to be used (3 button remote) main button opens one door and I'm trying to set the second button to open the door I lost the other remotes for. I'm able to reprogram my remote/second button to open n close the door but it disconnects from the keyless entry pad. I reprogram the entry pad and it disconnects from the remote. Both will not connect at the same time.. Any ideas?

    The garage door remote opens and closes the door. However, when the external light comes on when the remote is pressed, the remote will not work again until the light shuts off. Turning the light off at wall mount will then let the remote function as it should. Is there a way to get around the light problem?

      If you’re using a compact fluorescent light bulb in the garage door opener, then the transformer for the light bulb may be interfering with the logic board’s reception of the remote radio frequency signal. Try removing the bulb and activating the garage door opener using the remote. If the remote works with the bulb removed, you’ll need to use a different type of bulb or you may be able to fix the reception problem by installing an antenna extender kit (www.searspartsdirect.com/part-number/41A3504/0009/139.html ). We hope this information helps. If you need more assistance, let us know.

    I bought a new craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener and it will not learn the remote that came with it, after watching this i found it will not light up the LED indicator on the remote so checked the battery and its good. I tried my two old remotes from previous opener and it will not learn either of them and they have new batteries. I unplugged it for a few minutes but that did not help. Any suggestions ?

      Let us know the model number of your Craftsman garage door opener and we'll try to provide some help. The remotes on some Craftsman models have a small button on the back side of the remote that you need to push before programming the remote.

    Keypad remote lights stay on constantly ~ keypad nonfunctioning. Other remote (clicker) works fine after reprogramming. Have even removed lightbulbs from garage door opener. Purchased Chamberlain remote to no avail. Have also unplugged unit. This is a Craftsman 1/2 hp #102 1499A. Keypad is model 139.18195.

      Replace the batteries in the keypad because weak batteries can prevent the keypad from communicating with the garage door opener logic board.
      If that doesn’t help, try holding the keypad right next to the motor unit and then programming the keypad. RF interference in the vicinity of the keypad’s installed location on the outside of your home can be preventing you from programming the keypad.
      If these tips don’t help, then you may need to replace the keypad.

      We’ll need the model number of your garage door opener motor unit and additional details to help you further with this problem. You can find this number on the unit attached to the ceiling. It should start with 139. Your details seem to indicate that the keypad isn’t working but the remote device for your vehicle does work. If we misunderstand your situation, let us know.

    My garage door remotes or outdoor keypad are working. I have unplugged the unit and reset the unit. When I push the button on the remote the light flashes on the garage door opener but nothing happens. Both hard wired buttons inside the garage work. Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

      Your symptoms point to a problem with the safety sensors attached to the bottom of the garage door travel rails. Check the alignment of those safety sensors and realign them if necessary. Here's a video that covers additional troubleshooting for the safety sensor problem: www.searspartsdirect.com/diy/article/garage-door-wont-close-safety-sensor-troubleshooting-video-lights-blink-10-times If the safety sensors are aligned and you find no other problems, there's a possibility that sunlight could be interfering with safety sensors. If that's the case, you can likely fix the problem by installing sun shields on the safety sensors as shown in this video: www.searspartsdirect.com/diy/article/installing-a-sensor-sun-shield-on-your-garage-door-opener-video We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know the model number of your garage door opener and give us additional details about the problem.
