    Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just moved to a new house so I reprogrammed the keypad code, changed the remote batteries and replaced a blown bulb. Of course, I used a nice bright energy-efficient LED bulb. Ever since, I've been racking my brains over the same problem. I had noticed that there was a time delay but I hadn't tied it to the time-out on the lights.

    What a helpful fellow! Once I removed the plastic cover, I saw that the bulb I had in place was the twisty (fluorescent? LED?) sort of bulb which was flickering slightly. When I removed it, all remotes worked. When I replaced it with a 60 watt old school incandescent bulb (the kind that used to cost like 25 cents) all remotes worked. To double check, I reinstalled the twisty bulb. No remotes worked. I removed twisty bulb and reinstalled the old school incandescent. All remotes worked.
    Case closed! THANK YOU!

    I replaced a burned out light bulb in my garage opener with new LED bulb and the remotes for the opener quit working and I never correlated the led bulb with the remote controls not working. I thought the mother board went out - wrong. Replaced the led bulb with a standard bulb and the problem was solved - both openers worked again. You saved me $300 and about 4 hours work installing a new opener. THANK YOU VERY MUCH - YOUR VIDEO WAS SPOT ON

    • @lincolnsecond7179
      @lincolnsecond7179 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If an LED bulb does not turn out to be the problem, it may be caused by a bad capacitor on the power board. The capacitor that goes bad costs about 50 cents. However to install a new board may cost $75 for the part and $100 for labor. This problem is more likely in older models of garage door openers.

    • @AM-fi1kv

      @@lincolnsecond7179 Thanks for the additional info, but when I turn the light to the opener off the door opens normally. When the light is on, the door won't open. Your info is much appreciated, just in case the bulb doesn't solve the problem.

    Just thought you would appreciate this. I've been fartin' around with my 6yr old Craftsman for 2 days now. It started acting up all of a sudden. Mainly the remotes would work close up but not out on the street. Get on You Tube right away and started watching the many helpful videos and started troubleshooting my butt off, even pulled the electronics boards out to check the solder points. Floated a few points that looked like they needed attention. Absolutely no change! Convinced that the problem had to be in circuit boards, I went to Sears Parts, to order new ones, and right there 1st page is a reference to RF interference discribing my very problem. Security lites, Ham radios, and "other electronics" can cause interference with the remotes. SOOO.... I start shutting off everything that could possibly be affecting RF. No help. Even asked my neighbors if they got any new toys for Xmas, to no avail. Sat down in the garage with a bottle and started to think what else it might possibly be. Then it dawns on me, the only thing I had done was install one of those 49.99 strap on your mirror video cams, I got from my son-in-law for Xmas. Pulled the car out, parked it on the street, BINGO!!! Everything is working fine. I can't help but wonder how many people out there have installed these things in their car and are now having the same problem. Hope this helps somebody else as I can now relax and enjoy my wine knowing I know all there is to know about garage door openers!!!

    • @ATPhotography
      @ATPhotography 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say "pulled the car out, parked it on the street": Are you saying that the distance the dash cam is away from the garage door is the issue? So I can potentially try to set up my Homelink system when my car is parked further away from the garage, or that I need to unplug my dash cam in order to set up the Homelink device?

    • @seanmalloy7249
      @seanmalloy7249 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the same problem I've been having; when I leave the garage, I stop on the driveway and hit the remote, and the door closes about 90% of the time, but coming back home, it's random -- sometimes I can get it to open from fifty feet up the cul-de-sac, sometimes from the end of the driveway, and sometimes I have to be backed up to just outside the garage before it responds. Since I don't have any non-OEM electronics in my car, this leads me to either the remote circuit in the opener going or RFI out on the street drowning out the remote's signal.

    Darn... I though with this video I had it licked, but no such luck. Looks like I'll be calling the repairman. Both our controls worked less and less frequently over the last few months. Both will still open the door, but won't close it. I had replaced the bulb with a 100 watt led, so was way hopeful, after replacing it with a standard old style bulb. The door opened perfectly, but still won't close. Have cleaned the antenna, and door sensors. Guess I'm stuck with making the call. Thanks for the very useful video. Looks like it helped a Whole Lot Of People!!!

      What was wrong with your door opener? What did they do to fix it?

    • @skipfires
      @skipfires 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@inewton2060 I tried everything I could find, here and at other sources, but nothing worked. A very highly recommended, local garage door guy came and evaluated it. I'm told that our now 16 year old garage door opener needs a new circuit board. Looks like that will run about $200, as opposed to closer to $500 for a replacement. I had already, myself, replaced the chain sprocket (which is the other major thing that goes wrong with Liftmaster), so replacing the circuit board is the route I'm going. Waiting for it to be delivered. I'll make a point of updating after installed, as to whether or not it does the trick!

    I wish I had found your video months ago. I have exactly the same setup and I came to the same conclusion. When I changed the LED lightbulb to another one, the Door Opener works fine. Strangely, the LEB bulb I replaced was a light bulb made by IKEA. I speculate that the light bulb was made for Europe which has 50hz outlets.

      It’s such an annoying problem isn’t it? Some LEDs do seem to cause less interference than others. Genie makes one that works fine.

    First thank you for the videos they really do help. We learn something new everyday. I will go check my light bulb soon. I'm a little tired from going up and down the ladder trying to figure this out. I have a LiftMaster on the wall and the remote I don't know the brand of garage door opener but I know where the buttons are. This happened once before and I had to replace the whole remote system. My garage door will not close when I use the remote. Then occasionally it refuses to close when I use the wall mount, unless I keep my finger on the button, but not all the time.
    I have unplugged the garage door closer to let it reset I have checked the sensors also changed the setting for downward pressure to higher I have replaced the battery in the remote "before and after battery replacement I noticed remote light is yellow" I don't know what that means. I will look at your other videos I don't know if you respond to these comments or if you watch them anymore any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Great video! I've been having the same problem you described! I suspected RF interference, specifically the new power meter they installed last summer! They are known to cause interference problems! Would you believe, I gave up troubleshooting the day and was closing the light cover on the door operator when I noticed the LED bulb! Hmm, I wonder! Time to check out TH-cam. Bingo - I found your video! Back out to the garage to remove the LED bulbs - the door opened on the first try. However, it still wasn't working as good as it previously did! So next I switched off all the garage lights (nearly all LED lights of one type or another, and that made the difference! Thank you for taking the time to make and upload this video.

    My problem turned out to be not caused by the LED light (door wouldn't open even when the light is off), but because of the antenna placement. My problem was only with the MyQ hub. Because the hub is placed close to the opener, when the plastic light cover is open, it's obstructing the antenna. Not exactly the problem you solved, but your video brought my attention to the importance of antenna placement. Thank you!

    Thanks. I just recently replaced a lightbulb in the opener and also used an LED. Since then the opener seems to work fine with the remotes (although I haven't checked it to see if the light is off) but the keypad was very intermittent. Sometimes it works the first time (probably when the LED is off) but then it might take five or six attempts to get it to open, if it works at all. I will do some more investigating to see if the failures match your results.
