    it's alive but we can't just say Kendrick and Cole. 2 men alone can't carry the whole genre. if a class has a 100 students and only 2 are passing that's not a graduating class.

    Hip Hop is not dead, BUT it is misrepresented thanks to radio stations and social media.
    Check out: Joey Bada$$, Mick Jenkins, Logic, Bas and Dom Kennedy. Just to name a few artists that can actually rap.

      the lyricism in rap is too vain. At first it worked, it introduced fans to a successful lifestyle. How you came from rags to riches. Now it's not working for me it's cliche.How about different topics like a family who lost a member to a war overseas, or mental illness awareness. There's a lot to explore but it's not happening because of money.

    In a world where the biggest rapper in the game is known to have a ghost writer doing what is essentially his job for him and everyone being ok with that what hope is there for rap. What hope is there to be the best i your craft if 1 you don't even need to write it yourself and 2 you can have a #1 track by slurring on a hot beat for 3 minutes. Theres no incentive to be great so people settle for a shitty "average"

    Everybody sound the same, commercialize the game
    Reminiscin' when it wasn't all business
    If it got where it started
    So we all gather here for the dearly departed
    Hip hopper since a toddler
    One homeboy became a man then a mobster
    If the guys let me get my last swig of Vodka
    R.I.P., we'll donate your lungs to a rasta
    Went from turntables to mp3s
    From "Beat Street" to commercials on Mickey D's
    From gold cables to Jacobs
    From plain facials to Botox and face lifts
    I'm lookin' over my shoulder
    It's about eighty niggaz from my hood that showed up
    And they came to show love
    Sold out concert and the doors are closed shut

    The problem is everyone feeling the need to put all types of hip hop under one roof. Lyricists are not the same as turn up niggas, so why are y'all still comparing them?

    • @blogtoast
      @blogtoast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      well said not that I like all the turn up stuff as much. But it still seems kinda weird when its compared to people who make a different style of music. when in reality hiphop is a genre with different styles that branch out of it kinda like a tree.

    • @paulfernandez7141
      @paulfernandez7141 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      its different positions in the same sport. of course you gunna compare it. there's a lane for it but its not rap.

    • @ESmaniak
      @ESmaniak 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      eugene mccabe i disagree

    • @blogtoast
      @blogtoast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fair enough and that is fine at this point though at least with turn up music. I do feel like the person who made the beat is more important than the artist though. And making good beats is its own talent so is the production behind the scenes. But I really don't think its that hard for somebody to slap on some auto tune and mumble some lyrics. Then again though I am not really a fan of that kind of music so its not a shock that its not super appealing to me.

    • @paulfernandez7141
      @paulfernandez7141 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      no worries man everyone can have an opinion.

    Kendrick Lamar
    J. Cole
    Mick Jenkins
    Vince Staples
    Earl
    Flatbush Zombies
    Schoolboy Q
    Ab - Soul
    Jay Rock
    Isaiah Rashad
    Denzel Curry
    Chance
    Gambino
    Danny Brown
    Joey Bada$$
    Big Krit
    Freddie Gibbs
    And countless others are still rapping but dudes want to listen to these dudes who just got a catchy beat and hook nowadays because they want to turn up which I don't mind, But it isn't dead. I can't front 2016 has been a huge letdown in rap music because 2015 was just phenomenal but TLOP & Views were mediocre at best and the albums that bang this year isn't getting enough buzz or being talked about.

      Hip Hop was a expression of dance, art and music. You see dances like the Nae Nae, Molly Rock and Dougie and before you say they are dumb look at shit like the running man, hammer dance, cabbage patch and mashed potatoes. Art you see artist like Kanye, Pharrel, Big Sean, Tyler The Creator, Jay Z and Drake getting opportunities to create popular sneaker, clothing and merchandise for the ppl, Music Cole, Kendrick, Vince Staples, Isaiah Rashad, Mick Jenkins, Big Sean, Chance The Rapper, Bas etc. Keep It alive. So no hip hop is alive.

    The lack of samples has made it very hard for quality cuts to be coming out these days. All these great rappers of the past used samples, off the hook DJ's or a creative beat with a hook. Those previous tools were essential for a quality hit and at times can mask a lyrical weakness. Since the cost of acquiring a sample is so expensive, a label isn't going to front the cost for a unproven act.

    Hip hop is dead! I've listened to hip hop all my life. and I have no issue with saying it's dead. About 08-09 I said I'm done. the industry let just about anyone in, auto tune took over and talent took a backseat to influence. Skinny jeans, cough syrup, mumbling, men acting like women the list goes on. R.i.p. my hip hop experience 1988-2009.

    What kills me tho is when I hear niggas say "we not tryna hear no deep conscious rap etc in the club" like no shit that isn't what most people are saying when they talk about a lot of these shitty rappers out here. Even if you go back to like the early 2000's when we wasn't using the word *Turn Up* the music you would hear in the club didn't sound like niggas were mumbling or niggas like Lil Uzi, Yachty, 21Savage, Kodak and etc would not get a pass with this shit.....Future said it best tho nowadays people wanna hear this abc rap so I guess we just gotta deal with it till it dies out

    Hip Hop is dead. The youth have no regard or respect or knowledge of the culture. Lyrics don't matter anymore. Everyone sounds the same. Everyone is doing the same thing. They rap alittle they sing alittle. Even the rappers you claim to be nice in this video ain't really nice. Alot of overrated M.C's out there. No M.C today is even in my top 50 M.C's

  • @kevinsinginbediako

    Hip hop now has changed so much it's not dead but it's dying like back in the day it was real like you could feel the struggle in the lyrics you could feel that what they say in the lyrics are true. I was born in this generation but I decided to listen into the music of back then and found the soul. Now you just got most rappers that just chat so much trash like they wanna be something they are not.

  • @cowboy6862

    I think hip hop is dead...hip hop was all about rapping for the love of the culture or a way to express yourself without violence... Beefing through lyrics... Now hip hop is all about getting the new Jordan's and getting money, f****** bitches, drugs and saying how better you are then the next person, that's not how hip hop started. All good this are meant to die you know? There's only a select few I would call rappers, but for the rest of them... I call the artist.

    You can't blame the rappers, the blame is on the listeners. Niggas put out minimal lyrics and banging 808s and fucking blow i.e. Lil Uzi. He's smart though. Literally right now, the MORE you RAP, the LESS niggas will LISTEN. Uzi used to actually try, but now that he stopped look where he's at. Being lyrically hardened only works for some, but not many nowadays. Drake isn't even as lyrical as Kendrick, but Drake is still way bigger than him... Once again, the listeners are to blame.

    1:40- 2:11- Slink was right on point. Sums it up. Hip Hop is not dead; it just doesn't mean the same thing it did in the 80s and 90s. It's not nearly as cathartic; it's just commercial. There are still some true poets out there, though. Kendrick, J. Cole, and Propaganda to name a few.

      +ryanF J. Cole is just super basic to me, he doesn't really do anything that sets him apart. I think people just give him a lot of credit because he's one of the only real lyricists in the mainstream so when you compare him to future and young thug, yeah he seems amazing, but there are so many better lyricists if you just look deeper. But like I said my main problem with him is just that he is super basic.
      Also just cause your record sells a lot of copies doesn't automatically make you good

    hip hop is not dead. If you don't like a certain type of rap, We have the internet where we can find any new artist that we may like. It'll never die because we don't have to rely on the radio. Mainstream hip hop is in a weird space, but not hip hop in general.

  • @kai-alexandercasey8957
    @kai-alexandercasey8957 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my humble opinion, hip hop will never die. Although media and the music industry culturally appropriated hip hop during the 2000s, in the bling era, there were other underground rappers who were trying to make hip hop what it used to be, for example, Common and even young Kanye West. Because of the internet and the media, most music is easily consumed and easily put out. Also, I think that hip hop is also broadening its never ending colorful palette, in terms of sound and even lyrics. In terms of sound, we have producers now that are becoming artists, and they get to shine now with the artists they put on as their supporters. Lyrics are dumbed down unfortunately, but there are a lot of rappers out there who still have bars for days and many quotables.

    Kevin Gates, A$ap Rocky, A$ap Ferg, ScHoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, G Eazy, Ab-Soul, Army of the Pharaohs, Logic, Pusha T, Kanye, J Cole, Lil Dicky, Yung Lean, Action Bronson, Bas, and that's just off the top of my head. Some may question some of my choices on that list, but these are all some of my favorite rappers. I value uniqueness, wordplay, delivery, and any combination of those. The answer to that question is a quick and easy no, because hip hop isn't dead.
