    I grew up in Southern California and still live here. We used to go on family Sunday car trips back in the 50's and early 60's. My dad would drive down Hollywood Blvd. and then over to Sunset Blvd. to the Strip. I remember seeing Dino's Restaurant & Club on Sunset. It was used for outside shots for the 50's TV series "77 Sunset Strip" with Roger Smith, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Edward "Kookie" Byrnes. Kookie played the car hop valet for the parking lot for Dino's. I think there is a bronze plaque in the sidewalk at the address where Dino's used to be along with the "77 Sunset Strip" building next door. I used to cruise The Strip in the mid to late 60's after the Hippies hung out there and remember all the rock music clubs like The Whiskey, London Fog (where The Doors got their start as the house band), The Hullabaloo (formerly the Moulin Rouge Club) and Pandora's Box (which was shut down and demolished after the "Riot On The Sunset Strip" took place in November 1966). I got to go to The Whiskey and The Roxy Theater, which are both still there. My first concert was at The Kaleidoscope Club (formerly The Hullabaloo) on the Strip in June 1968 when I finally turned 18 and saw Canned Heat and Vanilla Fudge. Now The Strip is nothing but a bunch of Starbucks, high rise condos and office buildings and generic restaurants everywhere. Not much to see anymore. Too bad!!

      thank you very much for your comment. I agree with you, not much to expect around. I was lucky to drive my 1969 Cadillac Calais in 2016 when I spent time around, driving through the Tiki Ti bar up Sunset blvd. Greetings from Switzerland

    I arrived in LA in 1961. A few years later I got a job in the building right next to Dino's. At the time it was Carte Blanche Credit Card Co. Since I used to watch 77 Sunset Strip, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. It was the exterior of that building that was supposed to be that detective agency. And, yes, it was that clean on the streets.

    If only I could watch these beautiful scenes on a large screen and then somehow magically immerse myself and slip back in time into it - I would never regret it.

    wow, it was beautiful, such a lovely place, such a lovely face. it looks exactly how my grandparents always described this place to be. they said they had nothing to worry about. my grandparents always used to tell me these things and as a kid i was always so confused because we were living in the future (back in the 90s) they would always tell me that it was better before I was born. i was a little confused on how could that be? and thanks to these youtube videos (now) I can see it and confirm everything my grandparents told me was true. every single thing they said. and they used to live in west Hollywood, i was so confused on why would they move to silverlake up in the lonely mountains, why would you do that? i was a kid i didn't understand why. and now i know why.

    Wasn't Dino's Lodge returned back to The Alpine Lodge..like, isn't there an Alpine Lodge bar resto in LA right now..or maybe I'm thinking of the great, cheap movie house Alpine Cinemas in Brooklyn.

    everyone forgets the awful smog back then 💨

    • @JSFGuy

      The air looked normal as far as the smog goes. I know there is plenty of invisible emissions as well. Everyone survived.

    • @grandmarquisfilm
      @grandmarquisfilm  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      not sure about this, it seems that some residents of the LA metropolitan area have suffered health problems related to air pollution, hence the smog tests for vehicles after 1974. But I myself drove a 1979 Caddy about ten years ago in LA and the smog test seemed like a joke compared to those carried out in Switzerland, where I come from.

    • @JSFGuy
      @JSFGuy 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@grandmarquisfilm Right, I'm in Kern county up here in the high desert from Kansas and never dealt with smog test till now. I did ask the technician and he said every car has its own emission profile so they are not all tested the same exact metric. If your Cadillac at the time was set for a certain thing then it is good. It has been a slow roll for the vehicle manufacturers. I think from 94/95 on its all 50 state compliant. Air quality cannot be helped when you have a dense population per square mile like LA has nothing is going to probably fix that. Not just cars but kitchens and other resources. Never mind prevailing winds to carry it off.
