Ooh Wee! That belt was about to let somebody down on the side of the road! I'm about to change out mine right now that was put on 5 years ago. No problems with it so far. But I'll feel more comfortable with a new on there. I keep a new belt with the tools to change it out in my trunk always. Just like the old air-cooled Beetles! Keep a belt and the tools with you at all times. Going to be 55 and sunny today. A nice day to to the job. This is Feb 19th, 2024. If you don't hear back from me, we did alright. Thanks for the video. I was afraid I was going to have to remove that top engine mount, which I did not want to do!
Thank you for your instruction video and additional final tip on installing the belt on the alternator first to get a better fit... that would've driven me absolutely crazy trying to figure that out...
Thanks so much for this clear straightforward video.I appreciate the vocal instructions as well! Other how to videos give good pictures but it is sometimes difficult to hear what they are saying ! Much appreciated !
awesome, thanks! was hoping to jus tension the old belt a bit before i went to the shop to get a new one (205,000km). I double checked sizes but managed to round over the bolt (1st one you released). So much for a quick fix. Came back here to double check what you did and confirm everything. I did everything right, but the nut just rounded. probably hasn't been touched in 205,000 km i guess.
recommendation. when working under the hood please remove all rings and jewelry from yourself. don't want them shorting out and burning you. when routing the belt, remember that if the pulley has grooves it gets the grooved side of the belt. if pulley is smooth, it gets the back of the belt. good video. thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this instruction video. I think many of us are driven by unscrupulous auto repair shops to make these repairs ourselves. We just don't want to get ripped off anymore. A shop changed out the battery for a new one. A few months later, the serpentine belt obliterated. We have our suspicions, which is why we are very hesitant to go back to this shop to install a new serpentine belt. It certainly appears as if your OEM belt was spiked: it's too neat a hole. One thing I learned: when the shop calls you to come pick up your car, ask right away how much it costs. For fixing my flat, I was told $15. When I went to pick it up, the fellow told me $20. How come? I was told $15. Oh, let me check. After a surreptitious check, yes, $15. Guess where the extra $5 would have gone? So I will not visit this garage again. This is how bad hires kill the business of otherwise honest shop owners.
Daryl Locklear I agree with you. I got my oil changed at Walmart (I don't have jack stand or ramps to feel comfortable doing it myself) and later that day I ran out of antifreeze. I filled it up this morning and I'm empty again. What are the chances of that
Great video, we are in the process of replacing one on ours, however not sure if we have a dodgy belt; the new one just won’t fit over the smooth pulley. Any tips? No idea how you fit a screw driver anywhere near it either.
Thanks a lot. You did a great job. Can you make a video teaching how to change the starter for the same Yaris? I'd really appreciate it. I have been looking a video for that but I couldn't find one so far.
Nicely narrated and good video, that hole was def done by someone no doubt! Bloody dodgy garage and a smartly noticed.I wouldn't take my car back there no way!
Good video, but you did not show how you tensioned the belt (presumably with a crow/pry bar or a very large screwdriver). And the engine bay needs a wash.:)
I had the same belt and did this on an 08 yaris with no ac. Thing kept coming loose so often, and the manual tensioner didnt make it easier. I tried many times fixing it, and still same problem. I ended up ordering an bando off amazon which is the same as OEM. Havent tried it, gonna take forever to ship.
I am pretty sure you need a shorter belt for the one with no ac. At least when I went to buy mine there were two belt sizes. The regular size belt would always be loose if you do have an AC compressor to hook it up to.
Which HID headlights did you install and have you had any problems with them? Thanks for the video, I was about to replace my belt without checking youtube for instructions but then I thought to myself that someone probably has a good tip to make the task easier than winging it.

3 years later and this video saved me money while simultaneously boosting my confidence

Salamat ! from the USA 😊 fixing mine this week !
Great explanation!!! I like your pronunciation!!! And eloquent video . Thanks !!
oh wow a lady mechanic. very nice video, easy to understand steps..thanks
Exactly and anyone can do it you can't go wrong.
great tip on the reinstall after trying every else I did it you way in seconds Thanks
Great video. You will need something to leverage the alternator away from the engine in order to re-tension the new belt (like a crowbar)
thank you so much for posting this video. this is what I'll be doing on Friday.
Damn dealership asked me for $173 to replace that belt. Thank you for the video. I can do it myself now.
I"m going to try to replace mine in the morning! thanks for the video
Muy bueno su video le di like y campanita. Pero como cambio la segunda correa que va detras,?

Buen video, deberías realizar uno ajustando la banda del aire acondicionado o como cambiar desde Chile gracias
The best video i see to do it .
Very helpful. Thank you.
Great video, very helpful. Thanks a lot.
THANK YOU FOR THE TIPS HUN.

Great video! I´ll try to do the same this weekend.
Amazing video thank u
Does this Yaris have 2 belt just like 2005 Scion XB because they are same motor? Just curious. Because I am planning on getting the Toyota Yaris 2008.
Excelente video!!!

Great video, very informative! Thank you.
Good video, but you did not show how you tensioned the belt (presumably with a crow/pry bar or a very large screwdriver). And the engine bay needs a wash.:)
Zero deflection on belt same deal is automatic tensioner or it will slip and sqeal
Thank you, very helpful video now I'm gonna save some moolah
😁😁👍
thank you very much for your correct info on this.
The "idler" pulley is the water pump.
I had the same belt and did this on an 08 yaris with no ac. Thing kept coming loose so often, and the manual tensioner didnt make it easier. I tried many times fixing it, and still same problem. Jermaine Beckford It ended up being a problem with the belt, I had the right size, but when I put the bando, it went away
You didn’t show the tensioning
Great Video thanks so much
Good job thanks for sharing.
Thank you❤️
The only thing I have to say is why didn't you replace it with an OEM Belt
nice and easy...thnks for the video :)
I replaced my belt and my battery light is showing. what does this mean and what can I do to help
Which engine is that
Thank you so much!
was wondering... if you remember... did you ever bring that car in for service before that ?
Thank you so much
I can’t get the 14mm bolt undone I accidentally tightened it
I would think the hole was caused by a stone getting caught up in the belt, the belts are low lying so can get flung up onto the belt.
Just changed belt on my 07, has 338,000 miles on car. Pretty sure it's not the first belt.
nice vid, thanks.

Thank you continiu good
You drew.. A What ma'am? A di... A picture?
The part I need to see is how you got the belt around all the pulleys. You skipped past it.
the drawing is not match see the position of the belt hope will help
Mine did have a ac and yes i did have the right belt
I always thought the bolt was "he" :)))
Can u come over to do my car?
Hi, i have the same yaris and the problem is that the engine is little bit shaking whene im not accelerating any suggestions please and thank you
Sparkplug or coil
Terrible video, showed nothing
How dumb. You need to mark both the alternator and the bracket at the same place before adjusting it.
It was to mark the position of the bolt dummy!
To mark the bolt for what 🤣🤣. Dude use a torque 🤔
Great video. Thanks.
