I remember my old Cobra 138, which was originally a 23-channel radio. After tying clarifier, and opening up the audio, we added this insane box of crystals & variable capacitors (frequency adjustment), all selectable via a rotary switch, to get the 'extra' channels. I think there was more money in that box of crystals than the radio itself! Synthesized radios have come so far, and they do so much more. Sadly, it almost takes the fun out of modifying radios.
Why does it have Echo function on 10m? :/ I want to buy one.. but dear god.. would be embarrassing to be calling CQ and having the echo from hell going on in the back ground... not to mention the roger beep. lmao.. I am tempted to buy one for my mobile rig.. but .. hmmm.. don't know if I want to deal with that button being accidentally pushed. Anyone know if there's a permanent disable for echo? 73s
You turn it down like a volume control and it clicks into the Off position. You can set the roger beep length in software so I guess if you set it to zero then even if you pressed the button, it wouldn't beep. Still, you need to be careful with buttons. In the old days, before menu-driven rigs, all radios had buttons that could be "accidentally" pressed! And I can think of several things that would be more embarassing than a roger beep... like CQing over the top of international beacons or in the digi bands lol.

lmao. yeah, true.. leaving echo on, or roger beep on 10 meter during contesting or something would be pretty bad though. Thanks for your reply

Yes, chanel selector has some playing. Sometimes it jumps on 2 steps by 1 click. I usually use buttons on mic.
